What is a best friend? I’ve always been told that best friends are people who are nice to me and would give me compliments on the outfit that I frustratingly coordinated that morning. I’ve always been told that best friends are people who I can talk to and won’t be annoyed that it is three in the morning. I’ve always been told that best friends are people who would help me whenever I needed.

I’ve never been told that best friends are people who would argue with me and adamantly show me that I’m wrong. I’ve never been told that best friends are people who I can cry to when things seem bleak. I’ve never been told that best friends are people who cared so much about me that I felt loved.

To be frank, I don’t even know if I have a best friend.
