Acquaintances

Next Stop, Insanity

Go back in and change! How could you wear that when you're going out with Jungkook today!?”

Her eye twitched in annoyance and she looked down at her outfit.

What?

Was wearing a pair of jeans and a hoodie not suitable or something?

“Why does it matter anyway?” Hanuel sighed as she walked back into her room. Her mom came in shortly after and ushered her to sit down as she searched through her daughter's closet. Her face lit up when she found what she was looking for. She turned around and held it up. Hanuel's mouth fell open,

“You want me to wear that!? Just for that stupid stalker!?”

“Yeah, why not? It's cute.”

- - - - -

Jungkook was waiting at a nearby cafe since Hanuel rejected his offer for him to wait at her door. She claimed it would be too much of a date. He mentally scoffed.

Having him wait for her like this was enough of a date, wasn't it?

Although he was playing a game on his phone, he kept glancing up from time to time to see when she would walk through that door.

Sure, girls were usually supposed to be late on dates but not this late. It had almost been an hour.

Don't tell me you decide to skip.

He sighed and put his chin onto his hand before looking out the window. He finished his smoothie a while ago and was on the brink of boredom by now.

I'm coming >:L This is all your fault. I swear.

He raised an eyebrow at the message.

His fault?

What on earth did he do this time?

He looked up when he heard the door open and his jaw dropped. The girl looked around the cafe before locking eyes with him. She walked over, and his eyes just never left her.

Neither did the eyes of the other men in the cafe.

Hanuel took the seat in front of him and he stiffly turned his body towards her.

“I know, it looks weird. My mom made me wear it, okay?” She muttered.

She was wearing a light pink dress, with chocolate brown polka dots. Not to mention there was a bow near the chest area and she had a brown belt on to give it a more casual look.

While he was wearing a black plaid button-down shirt with a pair of black jeans. He was wearing a cap as well, looking like any normal school boy.

“Wow, you do have a new style every time I see you.” He chuckled. She looked up and glared at him, “Oh shut up, Jungkook. So where are we going?”

“To the mall.” He replied as he put some money onto the table. She got up after him,

“What? The mall? Why?”

He simply grabbed her hand, and walked behind her, as if shielding her from the gazes of the other men, “You'll see.”

She tried pulling loose from his grip but he wouldn't budge. “Let me go! I can walk fine on my own.”

“No way. Who knows if you'll run away?”

“I won't! So just let me go! People are looking at us.”

“No.”

“Yah! Jeon Jungkook!”

- - - - -

“I can't believe I'm wasting my time with you at the mall.” She huffed as he pulled her along. He stopped walking when he walked by a store, “We're here.” She looked up.

A dress store?

“Why are we here? Are you buying a dress for yourself or something?” She joked. He turned to her, “No. For you.” Her eyes crossed, “What? Why?”

“You're asking a lot of questions today.” He replied as he pulled her inside.

“That's because you won't tell me anything. You idiot!”

She finally turned to him with a serious look, “Okay seriously, why are we here?” “I told you. We're buying a dress for you.” She took a deep breath in, and then let it all out. Her annoyance level was growing by the minute and she was just about ready to punch him.

“Why?”

“Because you're going to be my date for the semi-formal.” He put a dress up to her body and tilted his head, but then shook his head and put it back onto the rack.

He could almost see the little gears in her head work before it processed what he had just said.

Your date!? Who says? I never signed up for this. I'm leaving.” She declared as she walked out. He grabbed her wrist and yanked her back, causing her to collide into his chest. He trapped her by wrapping his arms around her.

“I'm sure you wouldn't want Kangdae to ask you out and then not have the heart to reject him, so then you'd end up going with him right?”

She twisted free from his arms and glared at him, “But who said I had to go with you? I could go with any other person!”

“Would you say yes if I asked you normally?” He questioned.

“No.” She replied.

“Exactly.”

“There's no way I'm going with you though.” She shook her head as she stepped back while he continued to look through the dresses. He turned to her, “And why is that?”

“Because you're a erted stalker and I hate you? Why would I go to the semi-formal with my rival?” She listed on and on. He sighed and turned to her, “What do I have to do to make you go with me?”

She stopped.

“What?”

“What do I have to do to make you go with me?” He repeated. She blinked, “I don't know?”

“I'd rather go with you than Jaehee okay? I heard she was going to ask me anyway.”

“Then go with her. Why me?”

“Because, I like you more, Hanuel.” He simply turned away to continue searching, while she stood there speechless.

“Yah, Jaehee would be a better choice than me anyway. You guys are both on the soccer team, she likes you, and your feelings could develop for her so I really think-”

“You know what? If you really don't want to be my partner, that's fine.” He cut her off. She looked down when she heard the annoyance in his voice and suddenly, she felt apologetic.

“I didn't mean that but-”

“But what? You're too much of a chicken to go with me?”

She gasped, “I am not a chicken!”

“Then why won't you go with me? Scared? You're a scaredy cat now too?” He kept pushing.

“Fine! I'll go with you! I'll show you I'm not a chicken, you stupid stalker. There's nothing for me to be scared of either. Ugh!” She hastily looked through the dresses as Jungkook smirked.

That was easier than he expected.

- - - - -

“I'm going to count to ten, and if you don't come out, I'm going in there.” Jungkook said from the store. Hanuel's eyes widened as she tried zipping up the dress, “Don't you dare come in, ert!”

“Oh? It sounds like you're having trouble. Should I come in and help?”

“No! I'm almost done. Just stay out there!” She called out. He simply chuckled as he sat on the cushions and waited for her to come out. He dragged her to a few stores already and he could tell she was annoyed so he decided he'd just get one from this store. She just had to come out for him to actually see it.

“Are you done yet? I'll actually come in.”

“Done.” She replied as she swung open the curtains. He looked up and he froze.

Why did she look so good in everything she wore?

“What? Does this look weird too? I swear to god, Jungkook. I'm not going to another store-” He simply grabbed her shoulders and spun her to face the mirror.

“It looks good on you. We'll just buy this one, okay?” She looked at herself in the mirror and she couldn't help but smile a bit. She did like the dress but then her face fell.

“How are you going to pay for this?”

“I worked enough at the restaurant to get my own allowance, don't worry.” He said as he pushed her back in to change. But she poked her head back out, “But why? I can just pay for myself.”

“Now what kind of gentleman would I be if I let the lady pay?”

She raised an eyebrow, “Since when were you a gentleman?”

- - - - -

Although Jungkook kept telling her it was alright, she couldn't help but feel bad for making him pay for such an expensive dress. She looked down at the bag.

He had picked out a black strapless dress that stopped right above her knee. There wasn't anything too flashy about it, and there was also a belt so it didn't seem too formal. He understood enough about clothes to know that he shouldn't have chosen something that would have clashed with her brown hair so he went with black.

Maybe he was being a bit too biased but he thought every dress she tried on today fit her just perfectly.

“Jungkook” She called out. He looked back at her, “Hm?”

“I'm sorry.” She mumbled. He gave her a confused look, “For what?”

“I just realized I put you through so much trouble and I was being so rude about being your partner. You always look out for me too. So I'll make sure to help you out whenever you need it.” His lips curled into a smile, “There's nothing to be sorry about.”

“To repay you, we'll just have to be the best acquaintances there to outshine everyone!” She pumped her fist with a grin.

His face darkened.

“Acquaintances?

She couldn't have just said pair?

Or couple?

She nodded with such an oblivious look that he almost wanted to face palm.

“Yeah. Rivals can't be a couple and we're not exactly friends. So I think the term 'acquaintances' fits perfectly.” She explained.

His sighed, “Of course.”

- - - - -

“Can I go home now?” Hanuel requested as the two walked along downtown. Jungkook shook his head, “No. I said I'd have you for the whole day, remember?” She groaned, “But we're not even doing anything!”

“Well, what do you want to do?” He asked.

“Go home.”

“No.”

“Then think of something, you doofus!” She shouted. He rolled his eyes, “Fine, fine. We can go look for an outfit to match your dress.”

“Don't tell me you're paying for that too.” She raised an eyebrow. He grinned, “Nah. My parent's can pay for mine.”

- - - - -

“Do you not know how to put on a tie?” She remarked. Hanuel was sitting on the couch of the store and watched him fumble around with the small clothing accessory. Jungkook groaned in frustration when he took the tie off to put it back on. She shook her head and stood up, fed up with watching him struggle for so long.

“You're putting the tie on wrong, seriously.” She pulled him over by the collar and he ducked down for her to fix it. He blinked at the sudden proximity but she didn't seem to notice. “I just can't seem to get it on right, okay?” She fastened it before tucking it back under the collar of the dress shirt. She smiled in satisfaction and pulled back for him to inspect it.

Jungkook smiled at the reflection.

They really did look like a couple at that moment.

“Is that the tie you've decided on?” The worker walked over. Jungkook nodded, “If it's alright with her.” Hanuel stepped back, “Wait what? Why do I have to be okay with it?”

“Ah, the girlfriend's approval right?” The worker chuckled as Jungkook handed her the tie. Hanuel gasped, “You!” Jungkook simply put an arm around her shoulder and politely bowed to the worker, “I think she loves it. We'd like to buy that one along with the shirt and pants that we tried on earlier.” She nodded, “Alright. I'll just go get that for you.”

As she walked away, Hanuel smacked his arm, causing him to flinch and back away. He turned to her while she glared at him.

“Could you please stop with your misleading ways!?” Jungkook chuckled and lightly put his hand onto her shoulder as he leaned in, “What's so misleading about it?” She simply pushed him away and walked towards the counter, “You're really annoying. Did you know that?”

“I wonder how many times you've told me that.” She scoffed, “Apparently not enough to get it nailed into your head.”

- - - - -

“Mom, we're home.” Hanuel called out as Jungkook closed the door behind her.

Her mom had called her earlier saying that their family was going to come over for dinner tonight since it was the weekend.

Jungkook walked into the kitchen and saw his mom along with Hanuel's. “Mom, did Junghwa come over?”

“No, she's sleeping right now.” His mother replied. Jungkook's lips hitched up, “Oh, really?”

Hanuel's mom turned around to get something from the fridge and looked at him, “Aw, you miss your little sister already?” He shrugged in response.

He did, but he was glad she didn't come over for dinner so Hanuel's attention wasn't solely focused on her.

Was he being too selfish?

He walked out of the kitchen and bowed as an acknowledgement to the two fathers who were currently watching the news together. He proceeded down the corridor to her bedroom door. He knocked and when he heard a 'come in', he opened the door.

Hanuel was already changed back into her normal home outfit and she looked up at him as she turned around, in the midst of tying up her hair.

“What are you doing in my room?” She blinked. He gave her a look, “You told me to come in.”

Her face fell, “I thought you were somebody else.” She ignored him as she sat down onto her computer table and her laptop. Jungkook lay on her bed and looked up at the ceiling. He then turned his body to watch her. She stopped typing, “What are you looking at?”

“You.” He replied. She sighed in annoyance as she logged into her messenger. She mentally slapped herself when she forgot to make herself appear invisible because a new chat popped up.

As expected, it was from Kangdae.

H-E-L-L-O! You're finally online, haha. Didn't see you on for the whole day.

She half-heartedly typed a reply back to him.

Yeah, I am and it's cause I was busy.

With?

Just went around owijeod

What?

Hanuel was pushed away when Jungkook took over. He blocked her way as he typed away.

“What are you doing? Go away!” She exclaimed as she tried moving him or at least tried to get a glimpse of what he was doing but he wouldn't budge.

Ehehe, I love Jeon Jungkook <3 And I always will. I'm going to go and daydream about him now. Bye! ^_^ I love him so much!~

He quickly signed out so that he didn't have to see Kangdae's reply. He smirked and turned back to Hanuel who was fuming. “What did you do!?”

Jungkook shrugged as he put both of his hands on either side of the chair arms, trapping her, and ducked down.

“Nothing. I just told him the truth.”
