Next Stop, Insanity

Summer had ended, which meant that the new school year had begun. More specifically, the last year of High School for Hanuel and Jungkook.

First year students could be easily distinguished from the other students. They were the ones that ran around in a frantic mess with their schedules, hoping to find all the right classrooms before the bell rang. The other students, the ones that have been here prior, simply took their time to converse with their friends.

The majority of students came by the public transit. Some students were dropped off by parents, and some decided to use more eco-friendly ways like walking or cycling. Another half of the students used the school bus.

A particular school bus drove into the parking lot to let the students get off.

Jungkook got off first, and then turned around to wait for his girlfriend who somehow let everybody else get off before she did. He rolled his eyes as he watched through the bus windows. She really
did let everybody get off before her.

Another 30 seconds rolled by, before she finally got up from her seat and made her way down the steps of the bus. She thanked the driver before the bus pulled away. Hanuel turned around, only to be greeted with Jungkook's unamused face. She raised an eyebrow,

“What?”

“Why do you have to do that?” He groaned before grabbing her hand and leading her into the school. She scoffed, “It's common courtesy.” He paused in his steps before turning back to her, “The only dummy I see doing that would be
you.” She frowned, “I'm a dummy now?”

“No. You're more of a honey. Like,
my honey.” He grinned. She wrenched her hand away to punch his arm before walking ahead, “That's disgusting, Jungkook.” He laughed as a response.

He fell back into step with her, and grabbed her schedule out of her hand, earning a yelp of protest from her end. He scanned over her classes, “Why don't we have any classes together beside Physical Education?” She looked over his shoulder before shrugging, “I'm okay with that.” He in a deep breath, dramatically,

“I'm not okay! Where's the damn office? I want to request for a schedule change.” She rolled her eyes and turned his body to the right, “Alright. The office is there. The long line up is also there. Have fun, doofus.”

He jutted out his lower lip when she began walking away, “You're so mean, Hanuel.” Her lips tugged into a smile, although he couldn't couldn't see because he was behind her. She turned around with a sad look,

“I'm sorry.”

He narrowed his eyes at her, “You don't mean that, do you?” Her face immediately broke out into a wide grin, “How'd you know?” He let out an amused chuckle before ruffling her hair,

“Let's go, you dork. I'll walk you to your first class.”

“I haven't seen you in ages!” Hanuel stumbled back at the force of the hug, but she laughed happily before wrapping her arms around her best friend. Miyoung pulled back and tilted her head to study Hanuel's face,

“Did you turn darker?” She asked bluntly. Hanuel's hands immediately flew up to her face in an attempt to hide it before Miyoung starting giggling. She waved her hands back and forth, “I was kidding. You're still pretty! I'm sure Jungkook agrees too.”

It was now lunch time, and the two girls were at their lockers. Hanuel laughed before pulling her best friend along, “Sure.” Miyoung gasped, “Do you not believe that he does?!”

“Wait I never said-”

“Jeon Jungkook!” Miyoung called. Hanuel looked up in horror when she saw her boyfriend turn around with his group of friends. She did not expect him to be just down the hall. He waved to Miyoung, excused himself from his friends and jogged towards the two girls.

“What's up?”

“Do you think Hanuel's pretty?” Miyoung asked. Hanuel clucked her tongue before turning on her heels to leave, but Miyoung pulled her back. She smiled ever-so-sweetly at Jungkook, who smirked.

“You don't even have to ask to know what my answer is.” He replied as he high-fived Miyoung. Hanuel stepped back as her face flushed, “Miyoung!” Her friend laughed as she gave her a pat on the back, “I'm going to go speak to the teacher about my chemistry lab, so you two lovebirds can have fun!”

“You're blushing.” He commented as he poked her cheek. She frowned and swatted his hand away in annoyance, “Go away.” He grinned, “Oh, come on. Don't be like that.”

“You're annoying.”

“You love me, though.”

“I do not.”

“Then do you like me?”

“Nope.”

“Stop lying to yourself.”

You stop lying to yourself.”

He smiled at her childish remarks and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. She jerked forward at his impact, “Hey!” He rested his chin onto her shoulder as she began walking, “Yes, milady?”
He heard her sigh, and he knew he had won this little bicker.

“Do you want to eat in the cafeteria or outside?” She shrugged as she put her hands on top of his folded ones. He hummed in response, “How about you wait for me outside and I'll get us food from the cafeteria?” She turned around to look at him, “Nice try, but how about
you go outside and I'll pay for the food this time.”

“What kind of gentleman would I be-”

“If I let a girl pay. I know, Jungkook.” She chuckled before slipping out of his arms, “Go.” He made a little salute, “As you wish, milady.”

“What, is that a new nickname now?” She asked as they got further away. He nodded with a big grin,

“Yup!”

He smiled as he watched her walk away, and his heart swelled with admiration.

The two of them sat outside on a bench which was conveniently shielded away from the sun. The tree branches hanging above them had enough leaves to block off the sunlight.

“How were your first two classes?” He asked. She swallowed her food, “It was alright. I guess it is kind of boring without you.” He smiled at her words, “That's exactly what I would have said.” She turned to him and smiled as well,

“Well, at least our next class is together.” He nodded and adjusted himself so that he was lying down on her lap, with his legs hanging off the bench. She wrapped up her sandwich wrapper, and aimed it towards the garbage can before looking down at him.

“Are you tired already?” She asked as she brushed his bangs away. He shook his head, “Not really. I just wanted to lie here like this.” She rolled her eyes before running her hands through his hair again.

“Would you get mad if I tried braiding your hair?” She suddenly asked. His eyes popped open, and he stared at her serious expression. She tilted her head at him with playful eyes.

“You've changed a lot, Hanuel.” He commented. She blinked, taken aback, “What?”

“You've been nothing but playful and honest recently. You usually would have ignored me or something by now.”

“Is that what you want me to do?”

He gasped before sitting up, almost banging his head against her chin in the process, “Oh hell no! I'm just saying, it's different.” She shrugged, “Maybe we switched roles?”

“So, does this mean you'll be the one to initiate kisses from now on?” He ducked his head down in pain when she hit him over the head with her plastic water bottle.

“Never mind. You're back to normal.”

Silence engulfed them, and the two sat there, with his head back on her lap.

Hanuel finally spoke up, “Everybody changes, Jungkook.” He hummed, as if telling her that he was listening. She looked up at the people walking by their school,

“I think I changed because of you.” She admitted. “Miyoung told me this is what happens when people are so 'blindly in love'.” He chuckled before grabbing one of her hands, stopping her from playing with his hair,

“I know what you mean. I feel just the same way, Hanuel.”

- - - - -

“Mommy! I can't find my hair ribbon!” Wailing was heard as Junghwa ran out of her room with tears and a runny nose. Jungkook looked up from the couch and raised an eyebrow, “Why are you crying?”

“I can't find my ribbon, oppa. Unnie gave it to me!” She pouted. Jungkook turned off the TV before standing up. He could hear the shower running, and knew that his mom wasn't done yet. He took his sister's hand before guiding her back into her room, “Where did you put it?”

She ran over to her bedside drawer and pointed to it with wide eyes, “Right here!” He let his eyes scan over her room, and when he spotted the sparkly blue ribbon underneath her baby chair, he rolled his eyes. He walked over to retrieve it, and she gasped,

“Where did you find it?” He pointed to the chair and she gave him a wide grin, “Oopsies!” He waved her over, and he picked her up onto the bed.

“I don't know how to tie this, though, Jungie.” She looked up at him between her bangs, “You don't? But you're smart, and you're supposed to have white crazy hair! That's what Alphabet oppa said.” He narrowed his eyes as if imagining that his best friend was here,

“Don't listen to him. He's the crazy one. Although,
I'm the smart one.” Junghwa nodded, “Okay!”

“Oh, there you two are. Here, I'll put in her hair ribbon. You go change, Jungkook.” Their mother walked in, dressed up and ready to go. Jungkook looked down at his shorts and t-shirt, “Why do I have to change?”

She whirled around and put her hands onto her hips, “We're going out with the Lee's, and I'm sure you wouldn't want Hanuel to see you dressed up with a wrinkly t-shirt.” He nodded in defeat,

“Fine, you win.”

She chuckled before turning back to her daughter, “Don't you think your oppa's a little silly?” Junghwa nodded as she swung her legs back and forth, “I do!” She smiled up at her mother as she finished tying up her hair ribbon.

Mrs. Jeon kissed her head before pulling back, “Alright. You look extra cute now, Junghwa. Let's go outside and wait for your brother.” She nodded and hopped off her bed, holding on to her mother's hand,

“Okay!”

- - - - -

The Lee family came out the door just as Mrs. Jeon and Junghwa did. Mrs. Lee smiled, walking over to ruffle Junghwa's hair. She smiled affectionately at the little girl who beamed back.

“Hi auntie!” Mrs. Lee laughed and bent down to poke her nose, “Good evening Junghwa.” Junghwa looked behind to see Mr. Lee, whom she also smiled and waved at. He chuckled, “Reminds me of Hanuel as a kid.”

“Where is that girl-”

“Unnie!” Junghwa exclaimed, practically squirming out of her mother's hold to hop into Hanuel's. The older girl smiled and kiss her cheek, “Hi kiddo.” She looked up at her mother, “Sorry, I couldn't find my phone.” Her mom rolled her eyes with a smile. “Of course.”

“I'm here, I'm here!” Jungkook called as he came out, adjusting his cap. He closed the door behind him, and the two families walked towards the elevator.

He made sure to stand right beside Hanuel inside the elevator. She turned to look at him when he tried grabbing onto her hand. She raised an eyebrow and gestured to the little girl she had in her arms. He pouted as a response. Junghwa looked between them and giggled.

“You can hold unnie's hand if you want to oppa. You have my permission.”

The parents turned around in surprise, and began to chuckle while Jungkook pulled his hat down even lower to avoid embarrassment. Hanuel faked a cough.

Mrs. Jeon cast a quick glance back at the two as they all exited the elevator and she smiled,

“You two are adorable.”

Mrs. Lee nodded in agreement, “I think so too. Look at them, all smitten and what-not.” Her husband rolled his eyes, “Jungkook, be careful. You're on their radar now.” Jungkook looked up when he heard his name,

“Huh?”

All that answered him was another round of laughter.

- - - - -

“Hey! That was my piece of meat, Jungkook.” Hanuel frowned at her boyfriend, who was happily nibbling on
her food. She narrowed her eyes at him before stabbing a fork onto his plate and successfully taking his piece. He blinked at her,

“Oh, so that's how you want to play?” She stucked out her tongue, “You started it.” He made a biting sound, and she immediately backed away. He chuckled before returning to his own meal.

“How was your first day, kids?” Mr. Lee asked. The two in question looked up at the same time. Jungkook stole a quick glance at his girlfriend, before looking up at the older man,

“Did you know a boy told Hanuel she was really pretty today?” Hanuel was in the middle of drinking her water, before she choked. The parents laughed. Mrs. Jeon turned to her, “What grade was this boy in?”

“First year.” Hanuel mumbled while she directly stared at her boyfriend. Mrs. Lee raised an eyebrow, “Why is Jungkook talking about this so nonchalantly? Isn't he jealous?”

“You want to know what
he did?! He yelled at the boy!” Hanuel exclaimed. Jungkook gasped, “I did not!” His mother frowned at him, “Jungkook.”

“All I did was told him that she had a loving boyfriend and that he should find someone who's
shorter than him.”

“You're not that tall either,” Hanuel commented. He stuck out his tongue at her, “Taller than you.”

“You're shorter than Zelo.”

“Why did you mention him
again!?

“You set yourself up for it.”

“Oh boy, here they go
again.” Mr. Lee chuckled. The two women chuckled, “I don't mind.”

Junghwa looked at the two squabbling, “They're funny!”
