Thank You

Next Stop, Insanity

I'm surprised you waited for so long before getting this checked out. If you came earlier, we might have been able to treat it faster. But your recent x-ray shows that you have slightly torn the ligament in your wrist.”

“How long will it take to heal?”

“Judging from your injury, it'll take at least two weeks to be able to do light work again.”

“But I have a break dance competition in a week-”

“I'm afraid you can't participate. Your wrist is in no shape to be doing such exerting physical activities.”

“Alright then. I understand. Thanks.”

Jungkook was sitting against his bed frame with his knee propped up. He gazed at the plastic bracelet wrapped around his wrist.

You know, the ones they make you wear at hospitals?

He then turned his attention to the wrist which was elevated with a pillow and his eyes narrowed.

Why couldn't he have just been more careful? He felt so helpless now that he had to ask his mother to help him take the bandages off everyday.

Every single day.

Not to mention, if his friends lost this competition, he'd be a reason to blame. Zelo would never let him live this down.

He positioned his body so that he was now lying down on the bed. He glanced at the time.

4:07pm.

Jungkook closed his eyes, feeling a dizziness take over his senses.

Damn it.

- - - - -

On the other hand, Hanuel was also restless. She heard from her mom that Jungkook had gone to the hospital with his mother right after school to check up on his arm. She also mentioned that Jungkook hasn't been in a very good mood ever since he got back. Her mom did advise her that she could go over and cheer him up or something.

So that's what she decided to do.

She walked into the kitchen and took out a tub of vanilla ice cream. She also took out a box of cereal, strawberries, bananas, and some canned cherries.

She was going to make his favourite dessert.

Hanuel reached up to grab a bowl, and set to work. She scooped out three scoops of ice cream, decorated it and even took the time to cut the strawberries into little flower shapes. She smiled in satisfaction at the simple, yet tasty creation. She looked up at the time. She had about half an hour before she had to go to work so she decided she'd just bring her bag and everything over as well.

Hanuel carefully balanced the bowl in her hand as she struggled to put on her shoes. Once she was done, she closed the door behind her and walked down the hall. When she arrived, she knocked on the door.

No response.

She raised an eyebrow and knocked again.

Still, no reply.

Not even Junghwa was home to open the door? Or her mother might have taken her to the restaurant as well.

Hanuel frowned and rang the doorbell once again.

- - - - -

Jungkook, who was asleep, opened his eyes when he heard the doorbell. He furrowed his eyebrows and got up to open it. But when he walked out of his room, he accidentally brushed his wrist against the door frame and his breath hitched when the pain shot up his arm. He cursed under his breath and proceeded towards the door. He opened it up, without looking to see who it was.

Hanuel looked up at him, and she took notice of how tired he looked.

“Hey.” She called out. Jungkook finally seemed to have snapped out of his daze and looked at her,

“What brings you here?” He asked. Hanuel raised an eyebrow and stepped into the house, “Where are your parents?”

“Work.” He replied shortly.

“Your sister?”

“Went with them. Your parents are at work too?"

Hanuel nodded, but felt uneasy. He must be really tired if he wasn't even making erted jokes.

“I brought you something.” She declared as she took off her shoes and placed her bag down. She walked into the kitchen with him following her, groggily. She placed the ice cream onto the kitchen table, “I made you some altered patbingsoo. I couldn't get any shaved ice, so yeah.” Jungkook lightly chuckled and sat down, “Since you made it for me, I'll have to eat it, right?”

He felt better knowing she came to visit him.

Why was she so full of surprises?

Why did she have to act like she didn't care, but when he was hurt- she'd be the first to help him?

She sat down on the chair opposite of him and watched him eat it. He looked up when he noticed that she kept staring at him. He raised an eyebrow, “So when I watch you eat, you call me a ert. But when you watch me, it's okay?” She rolled her eyes and looked the other way.

Okay, so he's back to normal.

Not exactly normal, but his normal.

But she couldn't help but turn back. She got out of her seat and walked towards him, and he raised an eyebrow when she got closer. She leaned down and put the back of her left hand against his forehead while she put her other hand onto her own. She glared down at him, “I knew you had a fever. You denied it when I asked you in school today.”

“It wasn't that serious.” He dismissed. She retracted her hand, “Did you take your medicine?” He nodded, “My mom made me drink it before she went off to work.” Hanuel rolled her eyes and sat back down, “So, something tells me you're not going to be able to participate?”

He stopped eating and looked down, “Yeah.” Her eyes slightly softened, “There's always the next one.” Jungkook stabbed at his ice cream bitterly, “But if we lose this one, the hyungs would blame me.”

“Do you really have that little faith in them?”

He looked up at her remark. His eyes rounded as she continued.

“They'll do fine. I'm sure they wouldn't want you to participate when your condition is like this anyway. Your friends would most likely want you to heal so you can join them when you're in a better state.”

The sides of his lips hitched up at her words, “I guess so.” She took the bowl from him when he was done and went to wash it in the sink. He turned to look at her and he couldn't help but feel a bit light-headed.

He couldn't tell if it was the fact that he was sick or whether it was something else.

He quietly got out of his seat and walked towards her. He lightly put his arms around her body, carefully, so that his left arm wouldn't hit against anything to cause him pain. Hanuel's eyes widened as she stopped what she was doing.

“What the hell do you think you're doing?”

He chuckled and closed his eyes as he rested his chin onto her shoulder, “Being thankful.” She turned off the tap, “Couldn't you have just said a normal thanks?” She felt him shake his head,

“According to you, I'm not a normal person, remember?”

She rolled her eyes, “Let go, Jungkook.”

“No.”

“Seriously.”

“No.”

“Jungkook, come on.”

“I'm just tired, so let me stay like this.”

“There's something called a bed.”

“Will you join me there then?”

“Jeon Jungkook, let go this instant!”

He reluctantly let go and Hanuel whirled around to glare at him, “You're lucky you're sick and injured or else I would've hurt you instead.” He raised up his wrist, as if mocking her and she narrowed her eyes. He chuckled and stepped back, “Fine, fine. I give up. I'm going back to bed. You have work, don't you?” She nodded and dried her hands.

“You better stay in bed, idiot.”

“Your words sound so caring.”

She walked out of the kitchen and towards the door. Jungkook leaned against the wall and watched as she put her shoes back on.

“Don't need me to pick you up today, do you?”

Hanuel turned around, “You can pick me up in that condition?” He blinked, but then nodded, “I'd do anything for you.” She scrunched up her nose, “Yeah, you're not sick anymore if you're being weird again. Stay home and rest, doofus.” She opened the door and stepped out, but then paused.

“Drink lots of water as well. If you don't show up for school tomorrow and your mom tells me it's because you're too sick, I'll consider that a failure since you've never missed a day of school.”

Jungkook rolled his eyes in amusement and locked the door.

So she does care.

He walked back into his room and grabbed his phone off his desk. He sat onto his bed and sent her a message.

Thank you.

Hanuel, who had already made her way to her bus stop, took out her phone to check the notification.

He never really was good at expressing himself in real life. So is that why he always made such erted, sarcastic and stupid comments?

You're welcome. (:

“Hanuel, I'm so sorry. I can't eat lunch with you today because I have to go in for Math help.” Minjung pouted. Hanuel chuckled, “It's alright. I can eat alone.” Minjung nodded and ran down the hallway, “I'll see you later!”

Hanuel smiled and waved back as she turned around to head to the cafeteria. She walked towards an empty desk and sat down. She put in her earbuds, and took out her lunchbox, which her mom had prepared for her today.

Jungkook watched her from his table. J-Hope noticed his gaze and chuckled to himself. Jimin and V were busy talking to each other, so they didn't notice anything. He raised an eyebrow when he saw Jungkook's eyes narrow. He turned to see where he was looking at.

Kangdae had walked over to Hanuel's table.

She looked up when she noticed somebody had taken the seat on the opposite side of the table. Her eyes flickered in bewilderment when she saw who it was. Kangdae smiled at her,

“Hey Hanuel. Haven't seen you in a while.”

She nodded and took out her earbuds, “Yeah.” He nodded and took out his food as well. Hanuel quietly ate her lunchbox, not daring to look up anymore.

Jungkook turned his gaze back to his food, but his fist was balled up from under the table. J-Hope found this situation highly amusing. Jimin finally looked up, and he was confused as to why Jungkook looked so pissed. V was also raised his eyebrows in question. J-Hope gestured towards Hanuel's table. Jimin's mouth fell open in understanding and V smirked. J-Hope, though, was slightly baffled as to why Jungkook didn't just walk over there to do something.

A few minutes passed by, with Kangdae striking up conversations and Hanuel replying with short answers. Kangdae was about to ask her another question when he was interrupted.

“Good afternoon, Hanuel.”

She looked up at the new voice and her eyes rounded. “Zelo?” He grinned at her, “Yeah. Would you like to eat lunch with me?” fell open.

Did he not see Kangdae sitting right there?

She was growing dizzy with the two right here since she didn't know what to say anymore.

Zelo then noticed her expression, “Oh, you're sitting with Kangdae?” Kangdae's eyes darkened, “Yeah.” Hanuel kept quiet. Not exactly. He just decided to sit beside her on his own. She felt her phone ring, and she blinked when she took it out, excusing herself to answer it.

“Hello?”

“It's your prince charming to save you from evil. Tell them Minjung called or something and just leave the cafeteria.”

Hanuel's mouth slightly fell open but then she quickly ended the call and turned to both of them. She gave them an apologetic smile, “Sorry, my friend just called. I'm going to go eat lunch with her now that she's free.”

Zelo was the first to react, “Alright. Then I'll catch you another time.” Kangdae also stood up, “See you later, Hanuel.” She meekly nodded, grabbed her bag and walked out of the cafeteria.

J-Hope, V, and Jimin all turned to look at Jungkook's seat, the spot where he had previously been sitting at and laughed.

“This is so interesting.” V commented. Grinning, Jimin nodded in agreement.

- - - - -

Hanuel came out of the cafeteria and felt her phone vibrate. She took it out.

The benches outside the school?

She walked down the halls and descended a few steps, leading to the left field of the school. She spotted Jungkook sitting on a bench near the basketball field and made her way towards him.

“This is why I can't ever leave you alone, can I? You've got boys flocking all around you.” He muttered once she got closer. She blinked at his defeated tone, “It's not my fault.” He looked up at her and raised an eyebrow, “Not your fault? It's all your fault.”

“How is this my fault?”

Jungkook sighed, “Never mind. You wouldn't understand.” She frowned, “Did you call me out here to make fun of me again?”

“I called you out to save you?”

Oh yeah, he did.

She quieted down and sat on the very edge of the bench.

“Hanuel, why are you sitting as far away as possible from me?” Jungkook questioned. She blinked and turned her body to face him, “It's because you're emitting a very angry aura?” He rolled his eyes, “Yeah, because of you.”

“I made you angry?” She asked. “I'm sorry, then.” He raised an eyebrow, “Why do you have the tendency to apologize for things you never did?”

“It's because you said it was my fault!”

“You're too dumb to understand.”

“Jungkook, I hate you!”

“Is that how you show your gratitude to someone who just saved you?”

She stopped talking. She took back out her lunchbox and took in a breath before whispering,

“Thank you.”

A small smile appeared on his lips.

She never had to thank him.

Didn't she know that?
