When dance club ended you rushed out of the classroom before anyone else. Kwangmin had told you to wait around and try to get Minwoo to walk you home, but circumstances had changed. He wasn’t going to be happy with you at all when he heard exactly how much they’d changed.
You found the twins waiting outside. Kwangmin was perched in one of the trees near the gates. Youngmin was sat cross-legged on the patch of grass beside the tree, a daisy in his hand. He was carefully plucking the petals off it one by one.
“Kwangmin!” you called desperately, waving to try and get his attention. In an instant he’d hopped down from the tree branch and come to your side.
“Why aren’t you with Minwoo?”
“That’s the thing,” you said, biting your lip nervously. “Slight change of plan. You have to come and meet Minwoo and pretend to be my not-boyfriend.”
“What?”
“Why can’t I pretend to be your not-boyfriend?” said Youngmin, crossing over to us. “Do not-boyfriends get to kiss their not-girlfriends?”
You shook your head. “It has to be Kwangmin. The thing is, Jeongmin told everyone I had a boyfriend...”
Kwangmin groaned in exasperation.
“He was talking about Youngmin, I think.”
Youngmin’s face lit up.
“But I told Minwoo that Youngmin’s my cousin, so you’ll have to come and be introduced as the boy who Jeongmin thinks is my boyfriend,” you explained, hoping Kwangmin could keep up with how confusing all of this had become.
Kwangmin‘s eyes darkened. “I’m not doing it.”
“What? You have to! Why not?”
“For starters, won’t Minwoo think it’s strange that your cousin looks exactly like your boyfriend?”
You shrugged. “Minwoo’s not really that observant. He probably won’t even notice.”
Kwangmin still shook his head firmly. “I’m still not doing it. Find someone else.”
Youngmin took hold of your arm. “I’ll do it. We can just say I happen to look just like your cousin! And then we can smooch and kiss a lot! We can do that, right?” He was looking at you so hopefully that you felt terrible when you had to shake your head at him.
“I’m really sorry,” you said apologetically. “But even if that story was at all believable, I told them the boy has dark hair. Please don’t look so sad!”
Youngmin let go of your arm, eyes downcast.
Kwangmin opened his mouth, no doubt to tell you more about how he wasn’t going to do it, but at that moment you spied Jeongmin striding towards you, with Soojung and Minwoo in tow.
“Why, if it isn’t the boyfriend and the cousin here at once!” he said, grinning as if he couldn’t believe his luck. “Must be our lucky day, huh!”
