I Don't Like You

I Don't Like You

Do Kyungsoo is someone who rarely has dislike for people and things in general. He is someone who thinks about the brighter side of things and if that doesn’t help, then he’ll opt to give the person a second chance.

Though with that being said, there is one person that he absolutely does not like. You can put a knife to his neck and he still won’t like them. (But he prefers for that not to happen.)

Said person is the one and only Kim Jongin.

To Kyungsoo, Kim Jongin is an annoying brat who’s conceited and full of himself. He’s cocky and has a big head and thinks that he can make everyone bend to his will. He’s a stupid second year who is adamant on making Kyungsoo admit to his feelings when there are no feelings to admit to.

Kyungsoo does not like Kim Jongin and he doesn’t plan on doing so.

Figuring that it’s easy not to fall for the young dancer, Kyungsoo decides that all he really has to do is avoid any forms of interaction with the other boy. Sounds easy enough. And then he turns the corner and sees Jongin standing in the hallway with a group of girls and guys surrounding him.

Just his luck.

Making a beeline around the crowd, he tries to squeeze by without getting caught, but if there’s one thing you should know about Kim Jongin, it’s the fact that he has the eyes of an eagle. Kyungsoo knows this well because he’s been caught one too many times.

“Hyung!”

Damn it all.

“Hyung! Hyung!” Jongin swiftly maneuvers around the crowd of people and quickly advances toward Kyungsoo, who is still currently trying to get away but is having a hard time because there are just too many students blocking the way. “Kyungsoo hyung!”

The older of the two inwardly groans and only tries to push through the crowd harder. But of course, it is once again, to no avail.

Jongin soon closes in on him and they are now next to each other with barely any space in between Jongin’s chest and Kyungsoo’s shoulder.

“Morning, hyung~” Jongin coos and the third year’s student body vice president finds him hating the tan boy even more.

“Why are you here?” His tone is low and seething as he questions Jongin with clenched teeth. “You need to stop coming to the third year’s level. You’re causing a commotion!”

Jongin, though younger, towers over Kyungsoo as he inches closer to whisper into the latter’s ear. “Well, maybe you should come to me next time.”

Kyungsoo’s cheeks heat up and he feels stupid for letting Jongin get to him. He promptly smacks Jongin upside the head, causing younger boy to flinch and pout a little.

“Why would I do that?”

The pout disappears and is replaced with a teasing smirk. Leaning down once again, he whispers a sultry, “Because you like me” into Kyungsoo’s ear, which he assumes is pretty red by now.

Reflexively, Kyungsoo shoves Jongin away from him and turns away to hide his face.

“You’re crazy.”

Jongin chuckles and shouts out loud for Kyungsoo and everyone around them to hear. Because well, he’s trying to get a point across.

“Yes, for you!”

-

Stupid Kim ing Jongin.

Kyungsoo hates that the younger boy can get on his nerves without really doing anything. It’s beyond him how easily Jongin gets to him and it’s upsetting that he allows himself to feel bothered. It’s a really simple problem. All he has to do is ignore the boy, tell him straight up that he’s annoying him and it’ll be over.

But he can never bring himself to do it.

He can’t do it because deep deep down, he knows that Jongin only means well. He’s uncertain of how serious the other boy is, but whatever it is, Jongin doesn’t deserve to get hurt.

So he opts to just deal with it till high school ends and he can final get away from Jongin’s daily harassment.

However, it’s not easy.

He arrives at his home economics class and strides over to his desk, ignoring all the glares his classmates are giving him.

This is why it’s hard.

Kim Jongin is a popular boy. A popular boy who has a lot of suitors, who wants to kill Kyungsoo because Jongin has turned everyone down for him.

Arriving at his seat, he immediately smiles because there on his desk is a little goodie bag that he’s grown accustomed to seeing every day. Today the bag has a bunny design. He picks up the back and brings it to his face, taking a whiff of the sweet smell emitting from the thin plastic.

Do Kyungsoo has a secret admirer. At first he thought it was from one of his haters who are trying to poison him, but one of his friends ate one by accident and came out okay. So he finds himself looking forward to home economics everyday because this is the turning point of his day. He has yet to find his secret admirer, but he has a pretty good idea of who it might be. He looks around his classroom and sees some of his female classmates smiling at him and he smiles back.

-

Kyungsoo, in his eighteen years of life, has never done anything bad to have any higher beings hate on him. But he believes that they do because he’s walking home with Kim Jongin striding along beside him and his mother is the one to blame. She had asked Jongin to walk Kyungsoo home every day because at one point in Kyungsoo’s life, he was bullied and Jongin was the one that came to his rescue.

So there they are, walking down Kyungsoo’s neighborhood with Kyungsoo looking down at the ground with a pout and Jongin looking up at the sky with his hands behind his head. Their walk is silent as usual and it is at times like these where Kyungsoo sneaks a few glances at Jongin. He takes in Jongin’s features, smooth tan skin, strong jaw line and full, plush lips. Kim Jongin is perfect in every way and Kyungsoo sometimes find himself looking at Jongin in awe. Jongin catches Kyungsoo staring and smiles down at him and it’s not the cocky smile he always wears, but a gentle—almost loving smile—that takes Kyungsoo’s breath away. It takes everything he has to turn away and keep his eyes trained on the ground.

They soon reach his place and he doesn’t know why, but for the first time since they’ve made this arrangement; he invites Jongin in. It comes as a shock to not only himself, but to Jongin as well, but Jongin smiles and accepts it happily.

They head straight to Kyungsoo’s room because where else are they to go?

Jongin is a little giddy at the thought of getting to see Kyungsoo’s room and when he does, it’s exactly the way he imagined it to be. Clean, organized with a touch of Kyungsoo here and there. He stands at the door, feeling a little overwhelmed and awkward as Kyungsoo drops his bag on his bed and shuffles inside it for something. He soon pulls out an empty goodie bag and jumps on his bed, taping it to the wall next to other empty goodie bags. Jongin gawks at the wall and is just stumped to see that the wall is almost completely covered by the rectangular bags, save for one last spot.

“Don’t judge.”

Kyungsoo’s voice breaks Jongin out of his trance and it takes him less than a second to get to Kyungsoo and have him in his arms. The older of the two’s eyes are bulging out of his head and the intimacy makes it suddenly hard to breathe.

“Y-yah.” He tries to push Jongin away but even he himself knows that there’s really no strength behind his hands because his whole body has already gone weak.

Jongin pulls away only enough for him to look down at Kyungsoo with eyes filled with so much love and emotion that it makes Kyungsoo’s heart ache. Jongin draws closer and closer to Kyungsoo and then their lips are touching and Kyungsoo’s everything short circuits. He feels his back hit the softness of his mattress with Jongin squished against him, lips brushing against his in a sense of urgency and desperation. His hands are on Jongin’s chest, trying his best to push Jongin away, but through Jongin’s blazer, he can feel his beating heart and he can only clench onto Jongin’s blazer as Jongin continues to kiss till he can feel his lips swell.

“Hyung.” Jongin coos as he moves to kiss along Kyungsoo’s jaw line, causing the older boy to shiver a little bit underneath him. He trails the kisses down his next, slowly ing Kyungsoo’s shirt. He touches a sensitive area on Kyungsoo’s neck, making the boy beneath him moan unexpectedly.

Jongin’s body feels hot to the touch. He has Kyungsoo’s shirt completely open now, his pale body laying open before. He looks at Kyungsoo and makes a mental image of the beauty before him; eyes closed, lips slightly swollen and parted. It’s enough to bring him over the edge. He runs a hand down Kyungsoo’s side, lower to Kyungsoo’s pants.

In that moment, Kyungsoo pulls back to reality and shoves Jongin away, sitting straight up. He pulls back and away from Jongin, putting as much space between them as possible.

“S-stop.”

“But hyung-”

“This is wrong. I already have someone I like.”

Jongin’s eyes widen and he’s now looking confused. “W-what?”

Kyungsoo points to his wall and places a finger on one of the empty bags.

“The person I like give me these everyday and I’m waiting for them.”

“But I thought you invited me up here because you knew.”

“Knew what?” It’s Kyungsoo’s turn to look confused.

And then Jongin understands. Everything comes together and he feels nothing but utterly stupid for thinking that Kyungsoo has accepted his feelings. The back of his eyes burn but he refuses to cry in front of the boy he likes because Kim Jongin doesn’t like to look weak. So he gets off of Kyungsoo’s bed and picks up his things.

“Nothing. Bye hyung.” And then he is gone, leaving Kyungsoo confused and at a loss.

-

Jongin doesn’t come to school for three days.

At first, Kyungsoo had thought that Jongin was avoiding him, but is proven wrong on the second day when he was just “strolling” around the second year’s hall and saw that Jongin was nowhere to be seen. He should be happy that Jongin is no longer bothering him, but for some reason, all he feels is guilt eating away at his being. His heart hurts for the three days he doesn’t see Jongin and he doesn’t know why.

To make matters worse, he doesn’t get his daily present from his secret admirer for three days as well. He thinks it’s ironic how Jongin disappears alone with his secret admirer but only brushes it off as a small coincidence.

On the fourth day, he decides that he’s going to forget about Jongin because the boy is no longer bothering him and he should be happy to move on with his life. If anything, he’s grateful.

He goes straight to his home economics class because he realizes that he doesn’t really need to go to his locker. (And he refuses to admit that it’s all because he knows Jongin will later show up to greet him. Because that’s not the reason. It’s not.) So he arrives at his home economics class early than usual and is surprised to see Jongin walk out of his class and walk down the opposite end of the hall. Curious, he follows Jongin and sees the boy walk up to a trash can and pull something out of his pocket. He sees Jongin hold a goodie bag, his goodie bag.

“Jongin!” He calls out because what in the world is Jongin doing with his goodie bag?

Jongin turns around and looks surprised to see Kyungsoo so suddenly. Kyungsoo runs up to him and suddenly feels nervous because it’s their first interaction after what happened a few days ago.

“Why do you have that?” Kyungsoo decides that he just needs to get to the point because the tension between then is hurting him.

Jongin looks down at his hand and holds up the little bag in his hands. This scowls at it bitterly and shoves it into Kyungsoo’s arms, turning away to leave without saying another word.

Kyungsoo frowns at Jongin’s attitude. He just can’t understand why Jongin was acting like such a brat when he was the one who was pushed down and-

He looks down at the bag of cookies in his hand and connects all the dots. Jongin disappears and so do the cookies. Jongin shows up and the cookies come back. He wants to punch himself in the face for being so stupid and slow on realizing that his secret admirer has been Jongin all along. And the pain he feels when Jongin isn’t around. How could he have been so blind? Even if Jongin wasn’t his secret admirer, Kyungsoo is in love with him. How did it take him so long to figure it out?

He looks up to look for Jongin, but the younger boy is already gone.

He ed up and he knows and now he needs to step it up and fix everything.

-

Kyungsoo has a whole plan planned out to try and get Jongin to forgive him and has set to initiate the plan tomorrow at school. So it surprises him when he walks out of the school gates to find Jongin leaning against it, waiting for him.

“I promised your mom I’d walk you home.”

That is all Jongin says and then he is walking ahead of Kyungsoo. All Kyungsoo can do is follow along because seeing Jongin so soon was not a part of his plan and now he really needed to rethink his plan over.

The walk is as quiet as always, but this time, it’s more tense. Jongin is bluntly avoiding all sorts of eye contact with Kyungsoo by being a few strides ahead and Kyungsoo can’t say he doesn’t appreciate it. It gives him time to think.

Soon approaching his house, Kyungsoo settles his resolve and just goes for it.

“Do you want to-” he pauses because he’s nervous and is sure that Jongin will refuse. “-come in for a bit?”

Kyungsoo thinks he sees Jongin grimace a little, but brushes it off as quickly as it came.

“Uh,” Jongin rubs the back of his head. “I think I’ll just head home.”

And Kyungsoo is right.

“Bye, hyung.”

Kyungsoo doesn’t know what to do, but he feels that if he lets Jongin go at that moment, he’ll really lose the boy forever. So he reaches out for him with everything he has and clings onto his arm. Jongin looks down at him, shock written all over his face.

“Just give me one chance.” Kyungsoo pleads and there’s no way Jongin can say no.

-

They’re both in Kyungsoo’s room, sitting side by side on his bed. The air is thick and everything is just so awkward, they’re both close to just running away from each other. But Kyungsoo has a mission and he’s intent on accomplishing that mission.

Reaching into his bag, he pulls out the goodie back that Jongin had handed him early in the day. He gives it to Jongin and Jongin just stares at it blankly.

“Can you tape it on the wall for me?”

Jongin begrudgingly does so and then the wall is complete. He sits back down next to Kyungsoo and watches as the smaller boy fiddles with his fingers.

“Hyung, if having me here is making you feel uncomfortable, I’ll leave.” The taller boy stands up to leave but is immediately pulled back down.

“Just give me a second!” Kyungsoo all but cries as he takes in a deep breath. “I’m a fool, I know. I should’ve known that it was you all along and is should’ve treated you better. You were only thinking of me, doing everything for me and I hurt you and you’re probably never going to forgive me but I hope you do because I’ve realized how much you mean to me but if you don’t ever want to see me again I understand, I’m just really sorry and I really-”

Jongin cuts Kyungsoo off with a hug and laughs into Kyungsoo’s hair.

“Shh. Calm down, hyung.”

Kyungsoo takes in another deep breath and only then does he realize that he’s been crying.

“I’m so sorry, Jongin-ah.”

“Just tell me you like me.”

 “I don’t like you.”

Kyungsoo smiles into Jongin’s shoulder.

“I love you.”
