Suho's worries

The Other Side of the Mirror

Sunmi sniffed the perfect brownies and bit back a smile. And to think that D.O. called her hazardous in the kitchen, heh.

After an entire week of hardcore practice and not to mention putting out fires quite a few times, Sunmi had finally perfected her brownies, making them smell absolutely heavenly and looking drool-worthy. Not bad.

She hummed a happy tune as she packed the brownies away in a container lined with pink kitchen paper. She smiled at the brownies she made and let out a contented sigh. She remembered Sehun telling her that the one thing he loved after ice cream was brownies. She hoped he would like these.

Sunmi checked herself in the mirror and patted her hair flat. She didn't know why she felt exceptionally conscious about the day ahead, it wasn't even like Sehun and her were dating for real.

Heck, she usually just bought chocolates from stores and gave a chocolate lolly to each of the EXO-K boys in the past. Valentines wasn't that important to her because she didn't have anyone to share the day with.

She didn't really even care about the day because the logical side of her brain always reminded her how the V day was actually a strategy by commercialized firms to dig more money from their customers' pockets.

And now she was an active participant of this. Kill her, please.

She took a deep breath and smiled at her reflection in the mirror. To think a mirror caused all this mess, really. If the Sehuns hadn't changed places, Sunmi would rather die than even THINK of making a gift for the Devil on Valentines day.

She smiled at herself, chuckling at how this was the first Valentines that actually mattered to her. Strange. "Hope he'll like these." she murmured to herself, tucking the container in her bag and rushing out of the door.

Mrs Kim watched her daughter slip out with a small smile on her face. She began to feel a little sentimental and even felt her eyes getting slightly teary. She shook off the tears and wrinkled her nose, she really was too sensitive.

She looked back at her husband who was having his breakfast at the dining table and noted how he had stopped eating his toast entirely and was staring at the door with a blank, fallen expression. "Yeobo?" she called her husband unsurely.

Mr Kim sulked and looked at his wife. "Honey, our daughter is all grown up!" he wailed. "Where did all the years go to?"

Mrs Kim rolled her eyes and stifled a laugh. And to think she thought she was dramatic.

The school was bursting with pinkness when Sehun reached the school. He noticed how girls were smiling at him exceptionally radiantly and how there were guys carrying bouquets of flowers around. These were pretty common sights even in the other world, minus the admiring glances sent his way, but this year's Valentines also proved to be very different from how Sehun felt for the event.

His hands reached to his pockets as he felt for the tiny package, biting his lip. The Pandora charmed bracelet costed a bomb, honestly. The cheapest charm was 70 thousand won and to buy an entire charmed bracelet, he needed a few charms and the bracelet itself.

The entire gift ended up with a massive 500 thousand won price tag but Sehun never even flinched as he handed his credit card over. He thought the gift was completely worth it if he were to give it to Sunmi.

It didn't take long, however, for his fangirls to attack him with confessions on this fateful day and he suddenly pitied the Devil if this was the treatment he had to endure every single year on this day. It was just, well, overwhelming and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

He bowed his head respectfully as he rejected the confessions one by one, always allowing the girls to finish their little speeches and always listening to what they had to say even if all of them knew he was going to say no. He thought it was respect to at least listen to their words, knowing that they would have spent hours drafting their sentences and practising in front of a mirror.

He couldn't help himself, however, as his mind started wandering off as he wondered if Sunmi had reached the school at that time. He couldn't help but wonder what she would think of the gift. Would she like it?

He never really considered how they were a fake couple and this gift was completely unneccesary, until Jina appeared in his sight and prompted his logical sense to take over. She smiled at him brightly and pushed his fangirls away as she made her way towards him.

"Happy Valentine's Day Sehun oppa!" Jina threw her arms around him without hesitation, planting a kiss on his cheek. Sehun froze, stiffening on the spot. "Here, I made these wonderful cupcakes for you! Won't you accept them?"

Sehun stared at the beautifully made cupcakes and couldn't help but wonder if Jina had bought them instead of making them as she claimed. They looked too good to be true.

He shifted his gaze back to Jina's expectant expression and it hit him hard right then and there, who he was and who he loved. He was Oh Sehun, he had a crush on Lee Jina since fifth grade. Lee Jina, the love of his life even if there was no way in hell that she would reciprocate his feelings.

And here she was, the other Lee Jina, expressing her feelings of affection and admiration for him in such a blunt straightforward manner which he had always dreamed of.

Sehun unconsciously let go of the package and let it drop back into his pocket as he smiled back at Jina. Why did he buy the gift for Sunmi anyway, they were just a pretend couple. Sunmi wouldn't have gotten him anything either, right? Besides, she liked Suho.

Sehun cringed slightly at the last thought. Well yes he didn't like it, but the truth was that Sunmi liked Suho. She cried over him weeks ago and that just showed him how Sunmi valued the guy. Didn't he witness all that himself?

So what was he doing? Sehun felt awakened as if cold water was splashed on his face. Why was he getting dreamy and giddy over a girl that liked someone else? Over a girl that wasn't supposed to matter? The girl that was supposed to matter was here in front of him, hugging his arm with that seductive smile of hers. Nevermind how this Lee Jina wasn't his Lee Jina, but she was still Lee Jina right?

Didn't he tell himself that even if he couldn't get the real Lee Jina of his world to fall for him, he would be contented with this world's Lee Jina?

He was getting distracted by Kim Sunmi wasn't he. Acting boyfriend with that girl was doing things to his brain and heart. Heck, he even bought her a five hundred thousand won charmed bracelet without battling on eyelid. Thank goodness he regained his sense before he gave it to her. What would she say if she saw the gift? Wouldn't that be too big a commitment to their fake relationship especially when both of them had people they liked?

Sehun reached out to take the box of cupcakes by Jina and the girl squealed, sending disappointed sighs throughout the masses of fangirls waiting to present Sehun with their gift.

Sehun smiled at Jina. "Thanks Jina. I appreciate it."

Because this was the only way he could distract himself from the near realization of how much Sunmi meant to him, and how he could ignore her expectant glances of affection in Suho's direction.

Because if he chose to pretend it didn't exist, perhaps it might disappear.

-----

Sunmi sighed and pressed her lips in a firm line. Where in the world was that Oh Sehun? Wasn't he intending to come to school today?

"Stop looking, I bet he's just being hounded by his fangirls." Baekhyun muttered blandly. "Doesn't that happen every single year on Valentine's?"

Oh right it did. Sunmi nodded and knocked herself on the head mentally for her foolishness. And to think she almost thought something happened to Sehun and was about to rush out to go find him.

"I've received quite a few boxes of chocolate this year." Kai murmured to himself as he chucked the boxes into his locker. "But doesn't anyone realize that I don't like sweet stuff?"

"Well I do." Sunmi grinned. She pulled out an oatmeal bar and four chocolate bars from her bag. "Happy Valentine's guys." she passed the chocolates around and the oatmeal bar to Kai who grinned. Trust this girl to know about his fitness regime.

"Wow thanks, I've been waiting for it all morning." Chanyeol exclaimed as he tore the wrapper open. "I was wondering why our dear Sunmi never got us anything this year and I was about to faint on the ground and start crying." he muttered dramatically.

D.O. raised his brows. "Dude, if you've already fainted, how in the world are you going to start crying?" he questioned.

Chanyeol pondered about it for a while. "Skills?"

D.O. rolled his eyes and Suho just chuckled in amusement. Suho turned his attention back to Sunmi, slightly wary of the anxious glances she kept directing to the school entrance as she waited for Sehun to appear. His fatherly instincts were kicking in very quickly. "So Sunmi, did you prepare any special gift for any special someone this year?" he tested. Please not Sehun, he pleaded, you of all people know where he came from.

"Special gift alright." D.O. muttered. "Risked my life and hers and my family's insurance plan to-hmmmfff-"

Sunmi smiled awkwardly as she smacked her palm on D.O.'s mouth. "Oh don't listen to him, he's just blabbering nonsense." she cleared innocently. She retracted her hands and sent D.O. a warning look that told him clearly that those brownies she made especially for Sehun was supposed to be kept a secret between them two.

D.O. massaged his lips and pouted. "Fine I was blabbering nonsense. You didn't have to try knock all my teeth off because of that."

Suho eyed the two suspiciously and furrowed his brows. He met D.O.'s eyes and the latter just shrugged, looking away as if hiding something. Suho twisted his lip and sighed. The umma of the group better stay clear headed and not let his little romantic fantasies of this freaking ship get to his head.

The ship CANNOT sail. Period.

His thoughts were interrupted when a guy approached their group and singled Sunmi out, handing her a bouquet of red roses. "Hi Sunmi, I know you're already dating Sehun but I just want to express my admiration for you." the guy called Jongwan said. "I really liked you ever since we were sixteen but I never had the guts to say it till now. Just wanted to say it out loud for once."

Suho's gaze darted back to Sunmi. Aish just accept the guy, Sunmi. Jongwan was kind, smart and pretty decent looking. She didn't need a Sehun from the other world in her life.

"Thank you for your admiration, Jongwan." Sunmi bit her lip sheepishly. "And I'm sorry. I'm already with Sehun."

"I know." Jongwan looked kind of disappointed even if he expected it. "Had to try right? Keep the roses, I want you to have it." he forced a smile and walked away with as much dignity as he could muster.

Sunmi touched the roses lightly and twisted her lips wistfully while looking back at the school's entrance. Suho didn't need to be a genius to figure that she was wondering where Sehun was and whether he got her a gift.

He scowled and looked away, rubbing his temples. Sunmi was like his little sister, his daughter even. He felt protective of her and didn't want her to get hurt. It killed him when he saw her crestfallen expression when he told her she was just his sister.

Yes he knew she liked him. And yes he didn't return the feelings.

And so he pretended he wasn't aware of it, saving her the shame of being openly rejected by the guy she liked. He always hoped she would fall for someone else that would reciprocate her feelings instead, someone worthy of her affections.

Sehun was worthy, he was a nice guy and Suho was sure that if the two ever got together for real, Sehun would never let anything bad befall on Sunmi.

However there was a little complicated fact that Sehun didn't belong to this world. No matter how perfect the two were together, they COULD NOT get together. NEVER.

The ship CANNOT sail. Suho repeated in his mind. However he had a sinking feeling that it already did.
