Foreword
Baker Street is not a bad place to live. Of course, Sehun wouldn’t actually know, since he doesn’t live there. He lives in an apartment somewhere in the middle of Seoul with his best friend Luhan, who likes to think he’s Sherlock Holmes. Luhan with his honey-blonde hair and his angelic features. Luhan who has a PHD from Cambridge at age twenty-four but can’t do his own laundry and needs someone to wake him up in the mornings.
In other words, Luhan is hopeless.
It’s not that Luhan isn’t good at solving cases, because he’s a freaking genius when it comes to deductive reasoning and never fails to impress Sehun every time. It’s more like he’s completely socially oblivious and the polar opposite of self-sufficient. For one, he’s got the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to anything unrelated to solving a case. Once Luhan sets his mind onto something, everything else is deemed insignificant because he just has to solve that puzzle, diet and hygiene be damned. Sehun thinks it might be a psychological problem, particularly when he has to remind Luhan more than once that he needs to put on a pair of pants before going grocery shopping. Or when he wakes up at unholy hours to Luhan yelling enthusiastically that he’s figured something out. Some days Sehun feels more like a babysitter than a friend.
It goes without saying that Luhan’s social life, or the itty bitty slivers of whatever can be salvaged of it, is basically a mess. Not that it really affects Luhan. But Sehun would really appreciate not having to spend most of his time with a workaholic.
“Elementary, my dear Sehun,” Luhan says knowingly, about to launch off into a lengthy explanation of just how he managed to find the precious poodle of the Duchess of France blahblahblah. Sehun maintains his apathetic expression. He’s had a lot of practice.
“Luhan.”
Luhan continues speaking without even pausing to take a breath. Sehun lets out a small sigh.
“Luhan.”
Still no reaction. Luhan is now talking about something involving the mafia and poisoned eggrolls. To almost anyone else, this would be at least somewhat intriguing, but to Sehun, it’s nothing new.
“Hyung. If you don’t stop talking, I’m going to take off my clothes.”
That catches Luhan’s attention, but only for about a millisecond. And it’s mostly because he’s peeved about being interrupted. “Sehun, I’m trying to teach you something here.”
Sehun reaches for the zipper of his jacket and raises an eyebrow impassively at Luhan. “And I’m going to start taking off my clothes.”
“Why is it that you always end up threatening something like that?” Luhan gives Sehun a slightly miffed look. “Is seeing you really that much of a bad thing?”
Sehun is taken off guard. “Um.” To be honest, he'd been completely unaware that Luhan was capable of that train of thought. Now that he thinks about it...wait. Did this mean Luhan didn’t mind seeing him ? Sehun’s mind cannot even begin to comprehend the implications of that. Luckily he doesn’t need to, as Luhan takes Sehun’s shocked silence as an opportunity to continue his explanation.
Nope, no change.
“Hyung,” Sehun finally says after Luhan rambles on about hidden staircases and something that sounds like duck suits (at that moment Sehun gives up on trying to make any sense out of Luhan’s words) for another five minutes. “Seriously. Shut up.”
Luhan looks up at Sehun with a shocked expression on his face, his eyes suddenly welling up with visible tears. Aw, . Sehun has a brief moment of panic in which he realizes that he has just made Luhan cry. He made Luhan cry.
“Oh my god Luhan don’t cry,” Sehun frets, patting his best friend on the back in a hesitant attempt at stopping the whimpering noises Luhan makes. “I didn’t mean it to be mean, okay? Don’t cry.”
Luhan continues to sniffle, wiping away his tears and Sehun nearly gives up on everything (“I am so done” would be a suitable phrase to describe the current situation), because damn it, Luhan needs to learn how to stop being a social potato.
Okay, also because Sehun may or may not be in love with his best friend. But he doesn’t really think about that much, mostly because if he ever told Luhan, Luhan would give him some response about the mathematical proof of love, whatever the hell that is.
Baker Street is not a bad place to live. Of course, Sehun wouldn’t actually know, since he doesn’t live there. He prefers living in an apartment somewhere in the middle of Seoul with his best friend, Luhan. Luhan who is a genius detective who can solve any case except a certain one he isn’t aware of yet. Luhan who is extremely high in IQ but horrendously low in EQ. Luhan who is some goddamn angel Sehun might be in love with. Some days, Sehun closes his eyes and wonders what it would be like to live with his best friend, Luhan, who is a normal person who understands what love is.
He wonders what it would be like to have Luhan love him back.
