Moonlight Arabesque

Description

After 4 years of hiding out amongst the prodigies at Russia’s Conservatory of Music, 26-year-old Ella Chen is ready to head on home. And on top of that, she is about to strike it lucky with her presumably doomed career, having been invited to play the cello at the famous New York Carnegie Hall for music geniuses around the world. But along with it all, Ella is also bringing home some secrets that she does not wish to expose. Secrets, that she had promised herself not to tell anyone, not even her best friends from high school, Selina and Hebe. While there are some secrets she is able to stash away faster than people can say ‘stowaway’, others contain some glaringly obvious truths that even Ella is unable to hide. She brings to New York a 3-year-old child and that’s when everyone begins to wonder. Is the child a product of a crazy, passionate affair with a famous Russian pianist? Or is the unknown father right here, right now working in one of the office cubicles of upstate New York? As Ella’s past becomes even more mysterious than her abrupt entrance back into people’s lives, she even leaves her friends from high school baffled. But when a certain muscular, broad-shouldered male doctor comes along, Ella’s secrets slowly begin to unravel one by one.

Characters:

Ella Chen (26): Ella Chen, once known to be an all-around high school tomboy, comes back to New York in black dresses and high heels. After having been a student at Russia’s Conservatory of Music for 4 years, her career as a music composer seems promising. But the closet introvert that she is, falling in love with music comes easily, while in the real world, “love” seems to hate on her oh-so-dearly. Ironic, really. Restless, practically moneyless, and boyfriendless, Ella pretty much concludes that life has been treating her harsh lately. And as much as she prayed she wouldn’t have to see her old friends again once she arrives in New York, her past has inevitably come back to haunt her. And that’s when the wondering begins…

Chun Wu (27): Chun Wu has been living his entirely routine and perfectly normal life for the past few years, thank you very much. He’s been rising through the ranks from a mere hospital intern into a well-respected Emergency Services Doctor. And amidst his life of monotony and normality, his rocky past comes barging into his life faster than he can push it out the door. He soon meets people he had once known, randomly, in broad daylight of Manhattan City. And when an old high school classmate, Ella Chen, makes her appearance, he doesn’t know whether to make a run for it or to get down on his knees and beg her to stay.

Selina Ren (26): Selina Ren is ready to attend her 9th wedding that year and has this sneaking suspicion that the reason she’s almost broke is because of those expensive wedding gifts she has to buy each time. Balancing financial bills, weddings, graduation and medical residency, Selina is about to start the career of her dreams: being a doctor. But when her high school best friend, Ella Chen, comes back into her life along with a young child, Selina is determined to fix her friend up. As Selina begins to uncover the secrets of Ella’s past, she realizes that great opportunities lie ahead, for her best friend and for herself as well.

Hebe Tian (26): Hebe Tian is always and forever the skeptical and cynical one, and also a doctor-to-be. But therein lies another passion– a love to write and to publish a novel one day. And sharing an apartment with her high school best friend, Selina Ren, has been both an amusing experience and the main reason for her 6-months writer’s block. For the aspiring writer that she wants to become, her lack of inspiration is not healthy. That is, until another high school best friend from her past appears on the doorsteps of her apartment. In Ella, Hebe finds a new sense of inspiration and begins to draw ideas from Ella’s mysterious past life that Selina will not shut up about.

Arron Yan (25): Arron Yan is a nurse and he’s rather ashamed of it. He especially hates it when he sees a new hoard of females interning at the hospital to become ‘doctors’. Little does he believe that females can become competent doctors; however, liberal and feministic Hebe Tian comes stomping along, determined to reform his “ist” ways. Will he comply?

Jiro Wang (27): Jiro Wang is Wu Chun’s right-hand man through and through. A mixture of oddness and hilarity, Jiro never fails to keep the mood of the atmosphere positive and light. When placid Chun begins to struggle with his emotions and the new obstacles in his life, it is Jiro’s responsibility, as a best friend, to keep Chun from crumbling too quickly.

Calvin Chen (27): Calvin Chen is the perfection that all women desire and seek out and he knows it. One of the CEOs at the enormous Biotechnology company next to the University Hospital, Calvin is in charge of the many part time jobs that come and go around the place and is well on his way to becoming the next New York Weekly’s finest bachelor. The only obstacle in his way? Selina Ren, fiancée.

Leehom Wang (27): Leehom Wang is a sweet and refined doctor who works alongside Chun Wu at the University Hospital. Although completely gorgeous and 100% single, he refuses to date until he’s met the “one”. And to his advantage, his past and his present also seem to be colliding with each other. But what is he going to do when he finds out that the one he’s been waiting for is about to take her vows with another man?
