Times Together

The Man who never Dies

So Eun finally managed to tear Daehyun away from the toy store an hour later, with him rummaging through almost every available toy in the store.

She hadn't been as amused as she had when she watched Daehyun dart around the store like a little kid. The funniest thing was the contrast between his behavior and his usual stern expression. Who knew he had it in him, really.

Daehyun was walking beside her with a nonchalant expression on his face, but his hands were full with two bags of toys he had splurged on. There were toy cars, helicopters, trains and he even bought a soft toy rabbit for So Eun since he was in such a good mood.

So Eun chuckled softly as she sidled closer to him. "Are you hungry after playing for so long?"

Daehyun's stomach gave a timely growl and he cleared his throat. "Not really." He avoided her gaze.

So Eun laughed out loud and gestured for him to follow her. "Since umma and Appa aren't home, we have to make lunch ourselves. You do know how to cook don't you?" She eyed him doubtfully.

Daehyun made a face. "Of course I can." Very well, he might add.

So Eun grinned. "We'll see. Lets go to the supermarket to get some groceries for our lunch as well." She led him there.

She pointed to one of the trolleys and gave him a cheeky smile. "We're so going to need that because of all your toys."

Daehyun cleared his throat again, looking away embarrassedly. So he got carried away alright? Sheesh.

"Just put a penny into the slot and you can get the trolley." She passed him a coin. "I'll go in to choose some of the ingredients first."

Daehyun nodded and took the coin from her. He strode to the trolley area and scratched his head, frowning at the long snakes of trolleys.

He eyed one of the metal basket looking things and bit his lip. "I guess this is the trolley she was talking about."

He held onto the handle of one and tried pulling it. It was stuck fast to the previous one.

He frowned and went to another, trying to pull it free. It was also chained tightly.

Daehyun remembered what So Eun said and took out the coin, looking for somewhere to slot it in. He saw a small slot just right for the coin at the handle area and hesitated.

The slot was so fitted that if the coin went in, he wouldn't be able to take it out again. Eotteohke?

He put down his two bags of toys and started using his thousand year old brain to try analyze how this thing worked. A few long minutes passed and an Ahjumma passed by.

She blinked at Daehyun who was just staring blankly at the long rows of trolleys without blinking and she frowned in concern. Such a young man going crazy already? School must be tough.

"Young lad." She tapped Daehyun's shoulder. "Is something wrong?"

Daehyun bit his lip. "I don't know how to take one trolley out. I know I'm suppose to do it with a coin...but if I slot it in, I can't get it out. And I don't think the coin can cut through the metal chain holding the trolley down." He scratched his head.

"Oh lad." The Ahjumma laughed. She took the coin from him and pushed it into the slot against his will. Daehyun's eyes widened as the chain came lose and the first trolley was free from the rest of the chain.

Wow. Magic.

"If you're done with the trolley after shopping, just put the chain back and the coin will pop out again." The Ahjumma told him. "Haven't you used one of these before?"

Daehyun looked away embarrassedly. He thanked her and picked up his two bags of toys, much to her interest.

Just as the Ahjumma was about to ask, So Eun popped her head out of the supermarket door. "Daehyun, why are you taking so long?" She hollered.

"Coming!" Daehyun quickly stuffed the toys into the trolley and bowed at the Ahjumma gratefully. The Ahjumma smiled as he went.

"Such a lovely young couple. And to think he's such a loving father as well. I never saw a father buy so many toys at one go." She murmured.

-----

Daehyun eyed the instant packages So Eun had picked. This was what she meant by ingredients?

Instant curry, instant rice, instant rice cakes, instant noodles...

"Put them back." Daehyun commanded, taking out the things she had gotten from the trolley. "I'm not eating these."

"Why not?" So Eun frowned. "The curry may not be as good as the ones sold at restaurants, but it's also pretty good you know. You won't regret trying it-" she tried putting the instant curry back and Daehyun immediately grabbed her hand.

"No." He frowned. "Put it back." He wheeled the trolley away.

So Eun huffed and returned all the things she had picked and rushed after him. "Is he trying to starve me then?" She murmured.

So Eun caught up with him and raised her brows when she saw him weaving through the vegetable section. She blinked in confusion when she saw Daehyun picking out a large cabbage and putting it into the trolley.

"Wait wait what are you doing?" So Eun rushed over to ask him, her eyes wide. "Why are you choosing vegetables and carrots and onions and..." She gaped at the things he chose. "You're not...you're not going to cook are you?"

Daehyun shot her a look. "Of course I'm cooking. What am I supposed to do with these then? Scrub myself with an onion?" He turned away chose more vegetables, hiding a smile from her shock.

So Eun was still gaping at him as she followed him around the supermarket as he picked out other various ingredients. He chose a packet of kimchi and even some chicken meat. Oh gosh he was serious.

"We have rice at home right?" Daehyun asked her absent-mindedly as he looked through the ingredients he chose while queuing up to pay.

"Huh?" So Eun blinked. "Oh yes." She scratched her head, dumbfounded.

Daehyun nodded and he loaded the items onto the counter to pay. So Eun helped, not really knowing what to do. He was cooking for real? When she boasted that she could cook, it was all instant ingredients and easy stuff. Not REAL cooking.

Daehyun paid for the things and So Eun helped carry some even though he resisted. The both of them made their way out of the supermarket and was about to go home when an Ahjumma approached Daehyun.

It was THE Ahjumma.

"Oh young lad, done with shopping?" She smiled. "No trouble with the trolley right? Aigoo, your wife is really pretty." She looked at So Eun.

So Eun stared back in confusion. "Huh?"

Daehyun reddened and pulled So Eun away. "Ahjumma, we have to go."

"Oh yes, go home to your kid. He must be waiting!" The Ahjumma waved.

Daehyun mentally smacked himself and avoided So Eun's questioning gaze. He told himself repeatedly. *Do not look at her.*

-----

So Eun leaned against the counter as she watched Daehyun cook. Today she was really seeing new sides of him she never saw before.

She never thought he could cook but judging by his skills, he seemed to be very experience. Extremely so. He was so fast and accurate with the knife that he could possibly win some competition, no kidding.

Daehyun chopped the vegetables and dumped it into a pot to make kimchi stew together with some kimchi paste, and started dealing with the chicken.

So Eun watched with wide open. She never expected Daehyun could cook. As she watched him busy himself in the kitchen in her mother's pink hello kitty apron, she couldn't help but think how he would make a perfect husband.

Really, even though Daehyun was really quite cold and mean with his words sometimes, his actions said otherwise. The smallest things he did revealed how he secretly cared even though he might deny it.

He was also quite fun to tease, So Eun mused. Because he was so stern and cold all the time, if made it more fun and satisfying when she could get a reaction out of him. Call her mean but she liked it.

So Eun was too busy daydreaming to realize Daehyun had finished cooking. He set the kimchi stew on the table and some rice for them both, finishing the meal with a spicy stir fried chicken.

"Yah. Get the cutlery." Daehyun waved his hand in front of So Eun's face.

She blinked in surprise and snapped her gaze towards the table. Just wow. "You made all that?" She gasped. "Oh of course you did, I was here all along. My gosh I never expected this."

Daehyun turned away to wash the pots and pans but inwardly he grinned. *So maybe I couldn't help but try impress you a bit.*

So Eun quickly grabbed the cutlery and set them on the table. She rushed back to the kitchen to help him with the rest of the dishes, not being able to withstand any longer if she was to smell that lovely aroma and not be able to eat.

Just as she was about to praise Daehyun for his cooking once again, she caught sight of his bleeding thumb.

Her eyes widened and she grabbed his hand, surprised. "You're hurt!" She gasped, absolutely panicking.

Daehyun retracted his hand awkwardly. "Just the knife, nothing big."

"You might get an infection." So Eun insisted as she looked through the cupboards. "I think we have some plasters...ah here. Band aids." She took one out and carefully peeled the packaging away.

"Thumb out." She commanded.

Daehyun obediently followed, his eyes on her face. Her lashes were as long as he remembered, her skin as smooth. She was as pretty as she had been in his dreams, as witty, as adorable.

So Eun blew on his cut softly and carefully pasted the band aid on his cut. "You have to be careful. What is you get an infection and you have to chop your thumb off?" She threatened him.

Daehyun didn't listen, his gaze focused on her lips. Damn, it had been so many years since he kissed the last So Eun.

He so so so wanted to kiss her right then. To feel her soft lips against his, to feel her sigh in content as she leaned into his embrace.

So Eun looked up at him and Daehyun jumped a feet away, avoiding her gaze. *Damn it Daehyun, control.*

So Eun scratched her head in confusion. "Uhm if that's all...eat?"

Daehyun nodded gruffly and strode to the table before her. So Eun shrugged and ran after him, eager to start eating. He waited for her to try her first mouth of soup and first bite of chicken, scrutinizing her expression.

So Eun swallowed, taking a deep breath. "Have I told you how much I love you?" She blurted. "You cook even better than umma. Can't you cook dinner every night?"

Daehyun froze at her first sentence, his heart racing. That was his first reaction to her words despite his will. Even through so many years, she could affect him like no one could.

But love?

"Don't say things you don't mean." He slammed his chopsticks down and stood up. "I'm not hungry anymore."

He strode up to his room and slammed the door.

So Eun frowned and scratched her head. "What? I was just joking! I never really meant to ask him cook..." She pouted.
