It's Time

The Man who never Dies

Before everything, I want everyone to know I take economics, not history or geography so if anything in the past of Korea is historically wrong, please close one eye!

Year 934, South Korea, Silla Period

Seventeen year old Jung Daehyun frowned, his brows furrowed as his grip on his brush tightened.

He shook his head and let out an anguished sigh, massaging his temples. "No. It's not it. Not it at all." He muttered, grumpy.

Daehyun reached out to grab the piece of paper and crushed it quickly, flicking it over his shoulder. The paper ball rolled on the floor, joining a mountain of other paper balls that had been sacrificed in his pursuit of the best piece.

Daehyun sighed and closed his eyes, the face he had wanted to paint surfacing in his mind again.

That face. That one face haunted his dreams, his fantasies, his thoughts even in broad daylight.

Every time he zoned out, every single day dream his mind conjured, it was about that face.

That one face.

"I can't get her eyes right." Daehyun growled to himself, closing his eyes and leaning against the back of the chair. His long robes pooled at his feet, rustling slightly.

"Those eyes..." Daehyun murmured, deep in thought. "Those eyes are beautiful. I can't replicate them ever."

A knock on the door made Daehyun snap from his thoughts and he scrambled to stand up as his mother came into the room.

"Son." Lady Jung smiled warmly at her son. "I'm here to remind you to go for dinner."

Daehyun's eyes widened and he glanced at the sky outside. The sky was in patches of orange and pink and blue. It was evening."Oh I'm very sorry Omonim." He bit his lip. "The servants reminded me to go for dinner but I forgot..." He glanced at the mountain of paper balls at the corner of the room.

Lady Jung let out a chuckle. "Painting again?"Daehyun nodded. He let out a sigh and collapsed into his chair while his mother reached for one paper ball. "I can't draw it right Omonim. No matter how I try-" he faltered when he saw her unravelling on of his crushed pieces and he flew up from his chair.

"Omonim don't!" He panicked, shaking his head wildly and looking pale.

Lady Jung raised her brows but her hands continued working at the piece of the paper. She saw that what he had rejected was a painting of a girl.

The girl was beautiful, pure. She seemed to be walking and just turned around to glance at something. The picture captured the moment she turned, the dazed eyes and slightly parted rosy lips.

"So it's really a girl." Lady Jung mused. "I knew it was a girl that kept my son up for hours."

Daehyun pinked and his gaze dropped to his feet. Lady Jung laughed at his reaction and patted his shoulder. "It's about time my son fell in love. If you were to marry I'd rather it be out of love than of obligation to the family isn't that so?"

Daehyun looked surprised at her support. "But Omonim, you don't even know who she is. I mean, I don't even know who she is. How can you agree to this so readily?" He asked, puzzled.

"Look son, I want you to be happy. And if you really love this girl in the future, I'll support you whoever the girl is." Lady Jung smiled. Daehyun smiled back, absolutely delighted and touched.

"And not to mention," Lady Jung added. "I do know who that girl is. In fact, she's sitting outside with her parents right now, talking to your father!"

Daehyun's eyes widened and he spluttered in shock. "Excuse me? How can she-"

Realization dawned. "Today is the day General Kim is supposed to visit isn't it? And she's his daughter?"

"Correct." Lady Jung mused. "No wonder I found the painting familiar. If you want to meet this girl, I suggest you wash that paint off your face quickly and not make her wait!"

Daehyun snapped out of his spot and ran for the washing area. "Wait for me Omonim! I'll be back super fast I promise!" He yelled.

Lady Jung laughed softly and stared at the painting of the girl in question. "I wonder what So Eun will think of our Daehyun." She murmured in wonder.

Daehyun and his mother entered the grand hall and his eyes searched around frantically for the girl his mother had talked about.

He saw General Kim talking to his father and Lady Kim smiling and nodding at the conversation.

And then he saw her.

The first time he caught a glimpse of her was in the loud market place. People were yelling and shouting for business, ahjummas bargaining for the lowest prices and it was really chaotic.

Daehyun never thought he would find such a beautiful girl at somewhere like that. He had originally gone there to help one of the older servants with the marketing because he saw her going herself and figured she needed help.

While he was carrying a bunch of vegetables and other groceries, he heard someone call out loudly.

"Agashi! Wait for me!" A maid called, wriggling through the crowd.

Daehyun blinked in surprise, not expecting someone of the upper class to be in such a place as well. And then he saw her.

It was the merest of glimpses but he remembered that one sight forever. The girl turned around to look for her maid, her eyes shining and looking wonderfully happy to be there.

The crowd pushed him away quickly, causing him to lose sight of her. He couldn't even see where the maid had gone.

Just one glance. And he couldn't forget

Now as he stood there watching her while she sipped her tea gracefully, her eyes still sparkling as he remembered her lips curled up in the smallest of smiles...he knew his heart was in danger.

-----

"Lady Jung. Young master. Would you like some tea?" A servant asked.

So Eun blinked, snapping out of the conversation she had been listening to. She turned, wondering who was coming.

Her eyes fell on Daehyun immediately, the shy bashful young master of the Minister Jung who was looking polite as he thanked the servant for the tea. So Eun bit her lip, her heart giving a little skip.

This young master was....cute. Really cute.

Lady Jung smiled at General Kim and Lady Kim. "Hello, come here son. I want you to meet our son Jung Daehyun." she introduced. "This is General Kim and Lady Kim and..." her lips curled up in a mysterious smile. "This is their daughter, Kim So Eun."

Daehyun's eyes met hers and So Eun didn't know why she swallowed hard.

She felt herself pinking and she looked away, embarrassed. "Oh Daehyun!" General Kim nodded in recognition. "Even the Wang knows about you and your paintings. I'm aware that you're a really great artist."

Daehyun rubbed the back of his neck bashfully. "You flatter me."

Lady Kim looked at him in interest. "You're too humble! We have a painting by you hanging on one of the walls at home you know. So tell me, what are you painting these days?"

So Eun blinked when she saw Daehyun glance at her and pinked, staring at his fingers. "Nothing you would be interested in, Lady Kim." he cleared his throat, embarrassed.

He reached for his tea and took a large gulp, forgetting that it was scalding hot. He spluttered, putting down the cup quickly and coughing, fanning himself. "Hot!" he croaked, red in the face.

So Eun found herself laughing softly while a servant ran for cold water. Lady Kim and Lady Jung were nagging like all mothers were good at for him to be more careful and Daehyun was blushing.

So Eun thought it was cute how a guy like him was blushing and how he didn't seem to have the airs of any of the upper-class men So Eun had met before. And not to mention, none of them were as handsome.

Daehyun looked over at her when he heard her laugh and their eyes connected. For the first time, So Eun didn't know why she didn't look away and she just stared back as he stared at her in the same manner as if he couldn't look away.

Daehyun gave a polite nod and a small smile and So Eun smiled back. So Eun bit her lip and lowered her gaze, her cheeks flushing red and Daehyun looked away, smiling to himself.

They didn't know they would be in love.

They didn't know how often he would be painting her. They didn't know how they would be getting married int he future. They didn't know how this one meeting would be the start of everything wonderful, but painful at the same time.

All they knew was that at that moment, they liked this other person a lot. A lot a lot.

Year 2012. Seoul.

Daehyun stared at the calendar, swallowing hard.

He looked out of the window, sunlight streaming in from the stained dirty windows. He smiled softly as he savored his memories of the past.

The past.

It felt funny to describe it that way. The past when used on someone's past, was used to describe a memory. A few years ago, maybe a few decades at most.

Not a freaking thousand years.

Daehyun ran his fingers through his hair and sighed tiredly. "It's about time to meet you officially, So Eun." he murmured softly. A small grin appeared on his lips when that thought surfaced and he forced it away.

"I'll do anything to protect you. But Jung Daehyun you have to remember, don't be nice to her ever." he muttered. "You have to make her hate you. Hate you intensely. Remember that."

He thought about the happy times he spent with her and he squeezed his eyes shut, letting out a large breath.

"And that's going to be so damn difficult."

----

A lot of people are saying how this is exactly the same as Kate Lauren's "Fallen". Just to clarify I haven't read the book yet, but holy I read the summary on goodreads and its really quite similar.

I can guarantee its going to be different though, I don't think coincidences can occur till THAT much of an extent.

By the way, for people who aren't very sure of what the plot is about, like why is Kim So Eun dying and being revived again?? What? Is she supernatural??

Okay this is a belief called Reincarnation. Click on the word, I put the link to wiki's explanation.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the first chapter! Sorry for the wait!
