| Baekho's been kidnapped. Again.

A Witch's Endearment

Why must this always happen to him?

Baekho was kidnapped, again.

He was chained to some shady ground room. He’s unusually calm for the most part, the people who snatched him this time weren’t as bad as the others. Baekho just bided his time until he hears a loud blast in the distance.

“Finally,” he hears and looks up to see Ren peering in the hole above with a large smile.

“You need to stop making so many enemies!” Baekho calls out as Ren balances himself on the circle, hands supporting himself.

“Not going to happen, I’ve made generations worth of them all.”

“How did you managed to piss off so many within ten years?”

Ren lets go and drops to the floor with skillful balance, he then steps forward and Baekho is soon free of his chains. Ren checks his wrist, “I’ll put some ointment on this when we get home.” He replies.

Ren was born a witch that descended many generations, and though he applied his craft a bit later in life, his skill greatly improved. One of the consequences of being one were constant threats they had to take care of and more than enough long-living enemies that take their grudges to the most recent descendent. It wasn't an inheritance Baekho quite understood but Ren never looks bothered in the least.

Actually, he’s sure he’s never seen Ren fazed by hazardous lifestyle. Baekho quietly wishes he shared his calm demeanor.

“You’re alright at least.” Ren says, checking Baekho just in case.

“Shouldn’t we leave the dungeon?” Baekho asks in all seriousness, Ren doesn’t look the least bothered.

“Don’t worry, they’re all taken care of. I won’t let them hurt you,” Ren declares in high confidence. Baekho is vaguely curious as to what happened to them but decides it’s best to wonder.

It was strange to him how much he was focused on now. In both sides of the world. Being with Ren meant enemies coming at him every so often and seeing him as a weakness to Ren. Ren thankfully holds to his reputation and there’s little trouble. Being in the spotlight though was something he wasn’t used to.

Whenever he walked through the streets, Baekho was rather forgettable. When people walked by, they barely noticed him. It’s different in his work where most had to know his name, but otherwise, there was nothing about him that really stood out.

Ren was noticed by everyone, even when they weren’t aware of the person he was. His looks demanded attention from on-lookers just about everywhere they went.

They eventually return to the streets of the city. And when Ren waits impatiently at the end of the street corner, he runs back to Baekho and pulls his hand. Baekho feels some don’t see how the connection could happen, always a bit surprised at the two.

Ren is muttering the whole way as he puts his arm through Baekho’s, oblivious to their stares. “How dare he after all I’ve done. I’m going to kill him-”

“But he’s... not so bad.”

Ren leered. Baekho was actually giving his kidnappers some benefit of the doubt. Ren knew they didn’t deserve it but forgives Baekho of it. He clutches his elbow, “You and your compassion. It’s never going to rub off on me.” He reminds crossly.

Baekho chuckles.

And after they cross a few blocks, he sees Ren studying him intently. At his silent prompting, Ren takes a moment before he asks, “Do you ever get tired of being... involved in my life?”

“No,” Baekho says softly, smiling at Ren’s unsure expression.

“You can be angry at me if you want, it’s my reputation that gets you in half the trouble.” Ren drawls quietly, kicking the sidewalk as they made a turn.

“But you don’t like seeing me mad.”

“Well, I can have you be mad at me, just not want to hate me.” Ren stresses.

Baekho laughs, he’s pretty confident that it’s a slim to none possibility.

And the witch is unmindful of the passing glances and the probable confusion on some faces. Even his enemies don’t understand how this snarky witch who spared none for anyone else’s thought, cared only for the human’s opinion.

Strange, so very strange.

Their eyes lock and Baekho says, “I doubt anyone- who wasn’t your enemy, could hate you. The idea’s impossible to me.”

Ren smugly lifts his head high. “You’re right, it is.”

Baekho honestly couldn’t be mad at today’s incident, it was what he signed up for shortly after they met. It was just another odd day at his witch’s leisure.

Chapter 14: This is really sweet and fluffy. I love their love for each other and the way they interact with each other. It would have been a shame if you had only legt it as a drabble. This fic is so nice and somehow has a healing effect. Thanks for writing it :)
