| a Human's Endearment

A Witch's Endearment

Baekho was kidnapped, he had lost count as to how many times it’s been now, but like the others, it didn’t last long.

It was already dark that winter afternoon, the soup quietly boiled as the lights remain in the kitchen as Ren finished tying a bag with a yellow string and organizing his things in his pockets, stuffing them although his jacket showed no bulge despite the amount. Once done, he walked upstairs, the drawers and cabinet doors closing behind him, and with every floor up, the lights turn off behind him.

He arrived to the remaining hallway, following the light that trailed out of the opened bathroom.

And when Ren steps inside with a blue towel on hand, he sees Baekho beneath the water and kneels in front of the large tub. He waited as the milky surface soon divided, and Baekho vigorously rubbed his face and the water from his eyes.

“Feeling better?” Ren smiled.

Baekho nodded as he blinked away the water and Ren helped dabbed his face dry with the bundled towel. Despite the kidnapping, Baekho was rather calm.

He scrunched his face, “I thought these strings were stronger for some reason, but they’re coming out easily now. I guess the water helps.”

“Water has no effect.”

“Then how is this bath helping... “ Baekho trailed off as he looked accusingly at Ren and leaned in, his chin resting on the back of his hand, “You casted the water, didn’t you?”

“You’re safe at least.”

“Ren…” Baekho said reprimandingly, feeling Ren then tug at his hair and running his fingers through it, styling it as he wanted.

“These little spells are no big deal.”

“You should save them for more important things.”

Ren blinked as Baekho pulled the plug, forcing the water to drain. The puzzled witch remarked point-blank, “What’s more important than you?”

Ren looked every bit confused at the idea that there could be, and Baekho smiled despite himself. He stood up and grabbed the towel handed to him.

Baekho dressed in his suit for work and prepared his bag, even as he walked to the kitchen, he felt Ren’s eyes on him. He poured himself a bowl of soup and looked back, Ren sat on top of their kitchen counter, showing no hint of hiding his stare.

Baekho pulled a drawer and took out a spoon, setting his bowl beside Ren when he looked up, Ren remained as he was, leaving the other slightly wondering as to why.

Ren doesn’t stop even when Baekho meets his eyes, and Baekho couldn’t help but smile.

Ren arched an eyebrow at his reaction, but smiled back.

“Thank you,” Baekho said as he scooped a spoonful into his mouth, “saving me constantly has to be exhausting.”

“Not quite.”

“How did it end for him anyway? That...web... creature?” Baekho didn’t quite remember what the man who took him even looked like, they all started to blend in his mind.

“We settled the score.”

Baekho was almost tempted to ask how, but by the triumphant air surrounding the witch, Baekho realized it was better not to press. “I see.” He lifted his bowl to finishing the remaining.

“You’re not afraid of me, are you?”

Baekho lowered the bowl, staring blankly as Ren studied his earnest expression. “No,” he replied, frankly, there was no reason to be.

Ren smiled in good spirits, knowing he was every bit honest. “You can be, I think you’d be normal if you were, especially with all the mess it gets you in.”

“Except you’ll always save me,” Baekho said, slightly teasing as he planted his hand by Ren’s side. “Won’t you?”

“Of course,” Ren uttered, and Baekho thanked him with a kiss to the cheek. Ren chuckled as Baekho gives a wanted second, and his teasing heightens as Ren’s back is pressed against the counter, the lights flickered above them.

Baekho then stopped, pulling up as he scanned their kitchen and particularly the stove.

Ren’s mood quickly soured. “What are you looking for?”

“N-nothing.” Baekho said, and checked off everything in his list. When he looked down at Ren laying beneath him, the doctor laughed nervously. “...Maybe I’m afraid of some things.”

Ren arched an eyebrow as he tugged at his sapphire blue tie, bringing Baekho with him as he meets his lips. His kiss quickly takes hold, and the doctor deepens it to the witch’s satisfaction.

BAM!

“Damn, the human lived through it.” Aron said in clear disappointment, standing on the table with one shoe pushing the top of a chair, with his staff leaning against his shoulder.

Baekho’s smile was a little forced as he straightened up, “Pleasure to see you too,” he mustered. He glanced back at the visibly omnious look on Ren’s face and smiled weakly, “I’ll see you after, stay safe.” Baekho said and kissed him on his cheek.

The corners of Ren’s lips tugged slightly, and he watched as Baekho turned to leave for his next shift. Ren walked to the kitchen doorway shortly after, peering as Baekho put on his jacket.

His tie flashed in the light, and the witch smugly crossed his arms in place.

“Now my mood’s completely ruined.” Aron said, he then felt the chair disappear beneath his shoe and nearly fell forward, catching himself as he stood on the wooden floors.

“Now that makes the two of us.” Ren uttered coldly, his gaze remained sharply forward.

“Want me gone?”

“If I didn’t require your assistance, you would have been.”

Aron just smiled happily at his evil tendencies, even if it heavily hinted at his demise, “Why not join the other side? I always thought you were too suited for it.”

“Not worth it.” Ren said simply and the two leave next.

Aron thought that was unfortunate, even in his rookie days, the witch had a way of commanding, manipulating, displaying his strength in ways that’d easily made others cower. To the warlock, it was a waste.

“The day something happens to him, can I count on that answer to change?” The thought itself brings a satsified grin to the warlock’s face.

“It won’t.” Ren said point-blank.

Aron’s hopes are dashed. “Why not?”

“Nothing will ever happen to him.”

Aron glanced at his cold expression, there was something sinister about his tone, especially when the witch added with a dark smile.

“I guarantee it.”

-

His advice to anyone finding themselves dating a witch, was that it wasn’t easy.Like any relationship, there were disagreements, some risks, maybe a little greater than the average couple. And if they were at least half of Ren’s power, expect a lot of it.

If they were anywhere near Ren’s level, then… sufficed to say, he wished them luck.

These were the things that came with the territory of dating a witch, and though it came with some uncertainties, misadventures and minor risks, their shared happiness outweighed it all.

Baekho put down his folders in the desk drawer and reaches for his coffee. He then sees the lights flicker about him in the office, he turned around and past the office windows, looking at the city outside. The flickering lights crossed the city in one wave, the concerned Baekho continued watching when his lights flickered again.

Ren’s signal that everything was fine.

The question always remained as to whether he truly enjoyed a witch’s company.

Baekho subsconsciously smiled. It was safe to say, he did.

When he turned in his chair, his coffee spilled from his hand and he quickly set it on his desk, grabbing a napkin and dabbed away at his tie. He then paused, blankly lifting his brazen purple tie, drawing a blank look on the doctor's face.

And the only question on Baekho’s mind now was:

“Wasn’t it blue?”

Chapter 14: This is really sweet and fluffy. I love their love for each other and the way they interact with each other. It would have been a shame if you had only legt it as a drabble. This fic is so nice and somehow has a healing effect. Thanks for writing it :)
