It was one of the most darkness and hardest period to Korean people. Disasters kept on hitting on over Korea. It leaded famine and disease appearing everywhere. Crops fields were under the water; houses were knocked out due to the terrible storms. The poor farmers in small villages had to leave their towns, and moved to the big city with the hope of finding a job. Some of them became beggar because they couldn’t find a job. Some were luckier, so they got jobs; however their salary were not enough to keep their family survive day by day. Because of poverty, it turned them into thieves and robbers. Crime appeared every corner of the city. It made everyone too frightened to go out at night.

Sulli’s family was one of those poor who came to city to find a way to survive in this hard moment. However, her family was luckier than other families, when her father found a job to remain their life. Though their life still had a lot of difficulties, Sulli – a 6 years old girl felt happy because she still had meal every day. It was just a small piece of bread, or a small bowl of rice, but it could make her day. She thanked god that her family was not poor enough to be beggar and stay outside in this cold weather.

However, this terrible thing happened and turned the little girl into an orphans and a beggar. Her dad was killed by a robber, when that robber tried to steal some bread from her dad. Then a few months later, her mom was died of pneumonia due to over-work. Sulli got kicked out of the house because she didn’t have money to pay for house rent. Under the bridge became only place where she could refuge. Every day, that little girl had to beg around the small market or street in the city for food. If it was good luck, she could beg for some coins which only were enough for a loaf of bread. Or else, she had to bear with hunger that day.

Meanwhile, Taemin – a 7 years old boy who was from noble family. The Lee family was along with few families, were dominated the economy of Korea. They were even richer than Royal family. Majority income of Royal family was from Lee family’s business. So, they were at high status in society, no one dared to lay his/ her finger on them. Taemin was a spoiled brat who can get everything he wanted. It might because he’s the only child, so his parents loved him so much. He attended a famous Royal school which only accepted noble children. Being a spoiled kid, he always was complaint by his teacher due to his bad attitude at school.

Taemin’s mom was really worried about her son’s bad attitude, but she didn’t have much time to be around him, because she always had to travel back and forth to work with her husband. She also knew one of some reasons why her son turned into a spoiled brat was her fault. She had too little time to take care of him, she usually left him being alone at home with servants. The Lee’s business was too big and too much to leave her husband alone to take care of it. So, she had no choice but had to help him remain this giant business.

It’s fate when Sulli met Mrs. Lee. The lady witnessed Sulli who was being hit by a woman, because that woman saw the little girl stealing a loaf of bread from her store. Sulli was not a bad kid, but she had not eaten anything for a few days. The old woman was chasing after the 7 years old girl on the street, Sulli was so scared because she didn’t know what happened to her if she got caught. She might be beaten to death, or be in jail a few years. Sulli kept on running and running without looking in front until she got hit a fancy car. Luckily, the driver managed stop in time before hitting her heard. She just got a few scratches on her arms and legs. However, unfortunately, the old woman caught her, and beat her a few hit by a wooden stick. The young girl was lying while screaming when being hit continuously. Mrs. Lee immediately got out her car, stopped the old ugly woman

• Stop it. Why are you hitting her? – Mrs. Lee stopped the old woman stick before it could hit on Sulli’s small body which was tremble uncontrollably
• Who are you? This brat is a thief. off – the old woman shouted at Mrs. Lee
• What did she steal from you to be beaten like this? – Mrs. Lee said, then helped the little girl up – What did you steal from her?

Sulli looked at the tender eyes of the lady who was standing in front of her. Sulli had feeling that this lady was a good one. The little girl took out a loaf of bread which was eaten half way. The bread was almost getting stale, and bad smell. Mrs. Lee could believe this little girl was being hit because she just stole a stale food. Suddenly, she felt pity for the little girl. She wanted to help her out.

• How much is this bread? I’ll pay for her, is it enough for this? – Mrs. Lee took out money from her purse and gave it to the old woman
• It’s enough. Thank you, lady. – the old woman changed her mood immediately after receiving money and turned her head toward Sulli, said -  Today is your luck, brat.
• Thank you for saving me – Sulli bowed the lady non-stop
• It’s alright. Next time, don’t steal anything from anyone. You should back home, your parents must be worried about you – the lady patted Sulli’s head
• I have no home. My parents are dead. I stole her bread because I’ve not eaten anything for many days. – Sulli said while her eyes were getting teary

Her answer made Mrs. Lee dumbfounded. She knew this girl must be so hungry, so she stole a loaf of bread which was even stale and smell. She thought this girl was too young to survive alone in this dangerous city. And she would be beaten again because of stealing food again. Life is always complicated, and how could a small girl survive in this life.

• Let’s go – Mrs. Lee opened the door car and looked at Sulli

Sulli didn’t get what she mean “let’s go”, so she stared back at the lady and blinked her eyes.

• We will go to my mansion – a place where you can have proper meal every day, and no one can hurt you – Mrs. Lee smiled at her
• Really? Can I go to your place? – Sulli couldn’t believe what she’s hearing  
•  Of course, you can – Mrs. Lee nodded and smiled

The beautiful lady slightly pushed Sulli get into the car, and they back to the mansion. She couldn’t believe what was happening to her. A day before, she still was an orphan beggar. And now, she finally could a place where she could start her new life. Sulli was grinning happily for the first time she ride a fancy car, while looking everything through the window car.

• Btw, what’s your name? how old are you? – Mrs. Lee said
• My name is Sulli. I’m 6 – Sulli replied happily
• You are around my son’s age. I hope you can get along with him – Mrs. Lee
• I hope I can make friends with him. He must be as nice as you – Sulli said
• I hope he will – Mrs. Lee
