My First Love

“Damn, I’m late.” Jiae cursed as she ran into the quiet school.

She was helping an old lady to find her way home earlier and only got to school an hour after classes started.

She skid to a stop in front of her classroom and took a deep breath before sliding the door open.

“I’m sorry that I’m late!” She screamed due to nervousness and bowed down 90 degrees.

Silence ensued as she looked up timidly.

A young, handsome stranger was standing in front of her with a raised brow.

“Who are you?” She asked bluntly.

Her friends face-palmed themselves in horror. The girl is too blunt for her own good.

“I’m your new Mathematics teacher.” He said cynically.

“Oh…”

“And out of the classroom, Miss Song Jiae. I do not condone tardiness.” Daehyun said strictly.

“But…”

“Out!”

“I have a rea…”

“OUT!” He roared.

Stunned, the girl just shuffled out and the door immediately slid closed.

*What just happened?*

During break time, her friends told Jiae all about the new teacher.

“He is here to relieve Mrs. Lee’s lessons for 3 months. Can you believe that he is only 24 years old?” Sunhee, one of Jiae’s friends, gushed.

“His name is super nice too, Jung Daehyun. Omo, I’m going to faint soon!”

Her friends droned with excitedly.

A spark ignited in Jiae’s heart despite the rather harsh scolding she had received just now.

*I guess Mr. Jung is cute.*

Soon, Daehyun had taught at the school for a couple of weeks already.

Every day, girls would flock to him and tried to get into his good books since it is rare to have such a young and good-looking teacher in the school.

*Damn, I hate this!* He groaned inwardly.

He definitely hated the attention was showered on him.

As he stared out at the field from his currently empty homeroom during lunch break, he vaguely saw Jiae laughing and chatting with her group of friends.

Her smile and happiness warmed Daehyun’s heart as the edge of his lips lifted up slightly.

*That girl is something different, definitely.*

One day after school, when Jiae was walking pass the music classroom, she suddenly heard someone singing.

*Who’s that?*

She edged closer to take a peek and peering through the windows, she was shocked to see Daehyun.

*Mr. Jung!* She gasped.

Daehyun was singing Baby Baby by 4men and he was really engrossed even without any background music.

I didn’t know the reason why I changed
I thought about it for a long time

*Damn, Mr. Jung can be a singer already!* Jiae gaped as she walked away from the music room.

Without her knowing, her heart thumped wildly as a smile appeared on her pretty face.

While the class was waiting for Daehyun to appear, Jiae was chatting with Sunhee.

“Sunhee-ah, what does it feel like to be in love?” Jiae asked suddenly.

“Hmm, when you are in love, you will feel a strong bond between you and the other person. You will always be on the lookout for this person. You will be happy whenever the person you are in love which acknowledges you. This acknowledgement could be a mere look, a polite nod, etc. The feeling of being in love is one of the most beautiful of them all. You will find that everything around you is bright, sunny, optimistic, happy, etc.” Sunhee answered then she suddenly stopped in realisation.

“You are in love! Who is it?” She screamed, interested.

Her friend was falling in love for the first time after all.

Jiae flushed red.

She was about to answer when Daehyun came into the classroom.

*Him…* She thought lovingly.

*Loving a teacher is hard enough, why must I fall in love with one that is insanely popular with my schoolmates?* Jiae sighed as she looked at Daehyun, who was walking in the hallway with a pack of girls following him.

She was very jealous but if she joined the group of girls and followed Daehyun around, she was sure that he will definitely disliked her more than ever. She did not want that.

Sighing in defeat, she turned away.

Just as she looked away, Daehyun’s eyes found her and his gaze softened.

*Jiae, just wait a little longer for me.*

Then the time came when Daehyun had to leave the school because Mrs. Lee was back from her leave.

Girls were upset to see the departure of their favourite teacher., especially Jiae. It was hard to see the one that you love leave without you telling him that you love him.

After school, Jiae had stayed at the library to finish her work before going home. She was prepared to cry all day at home.

It was already 5:30 pm when she left the school. The weather was getting cold as she tugged her blazer tighter around her slim body.

“Mr. Jung?” She mumbled as a figure came walking beside her.

“Hey, Jiae.” He replied softly.

For a moment, there was silence.

“Do…you want to go to the park with me?” Daehyun asked suddenly.

“W-what? Oh, sure.” Jiae agreed after a moment of shock.

It was after all their last meeting, or so she thought.

Reaching the park, Daehyun sat on one of the two vacant swings and Jiae sat on the other one.

Staring up into the sky, Jiae sighed in awe. *It is so pretty.*

Daehyun gazed at her, *So pretty…*

After a few seconds of soothing silence, Daehyun started speaking.

“Will you be my girlfriend?”

*W-what!* Jiae thought in shock as she turned to look at her teacher. Well, ex-teacher now.

Daehyun gave her a smile.

“I’ve liked you for some time already but because I was your teacher, I could not bring myself to confess to you. Now that I am not your teacher anymore, will you do me the honour of being my girlfriend?”

Time froze.

Slowly, a lone tear found its way out of Jiae’s eye and slid down her cheek.

“Yes.”

Smiling, Daehyun stood up and went over to stand in front of Jiae.

“Thank you.”

He bent down to give her a hug.

“But Jiae, I must tell you that people might still criticize us due to our large . It is okay if you reject me, I don’t want you to get hurt in the end.” Daehyun muttered worriedly.

Jiae looked into his sincere orbs and saw her reflection.

Knowing that Daehyun will be a great boyfriend for herself, she just smiled.

“As long as you are with me, I don’t mind.” Jiae mumbled sweetly.

Daehyun smiled as he leaned in.

Slowly, their lips met as the sun disappeared into the horizon.
