The Confession
Tears of a Phoenix
No. The truth would hurt. You can’t imagine what he would say. What would he say? Your mind whirs like gears and cogs. You don’t know what to do. You don’t know what to say. Seung Hoon stares straight into your eyes with his own soft, brown ones. The happiest smile you’ve seen in your whole life was planted onto his face. ‘Aren’t you going to come?’ he asks, patting the empty spot next to him.
‘No,’ you say. You step back and stand as far away from him as possible without making it seem obvious. What if you couldn’t forgive yourself for what happened? What if it was your fault?
The world’s happiest smile turns and twists into the world’s saddest expression. ‘Why?’ he asked sadly. Your mind whirs again. What can you say to not offend him? Suddenly, the best question pops into your mind.
‘Who killed you?’ you ask, your voice shaking from the thick tension in the air. ‘The one who killed me?’ he repeated. You nod fervently. Seung Hoon seemed to gather all his wits as he takes a deep breath. Daehyun is groaning quietly to himself. Youngjae is pacing up and down, as if he were trying to relieve all the tension with his walking power.
‘The one who killed me was him,’ Seung Hoon growled. ‘Who is it?’ you plead. Revenge was so near that you could taste it on the tip of your tongue. The simple sweetness of it refreshes your nerves. ‘Who is it? Seung Hoon, hurry and tell me!’ You walk up and grab his shoulders, shaking him as he stares blankly.
‘It was him,’ Seung Hoon repeated. ‘Jong Up.’
The whole world seemed to freeze. What? The situation didn’t make sense in your mind. Whose side is Himchan on? Whose side was the phoenix on? Then whose side is Daehyun on? Whose side are you on? You fall to the ground. Your heart too shocked to let you stand.
