Foreword
“Where are we going?” Ariyoung giggled as Kai pulled her along through some shrubs.
“We’re almost there.” He insisted and tightened his grip on her hands.
He led them a few more meters then stopped and pulled her forward. He pulled back a branch and she gasped.
“Whoa! How’d you find this?” She asked in awe. In front of them was a cliff about 15 feet high above the turquoise blue water.
“I come here when I need a breather,” he grinned. “You want to try?”
She turned to him. “You mean like cliff diving?”
He nodded and a smile grew on her face.
“Let’s do it.” She quickly agreed.
“Together?” He held up their hands and she nodded. “Okay, on a count of three, we’re going to run off and jump off, alright?”
Ariyoung bit her bottom lip with excitement and nodded. “Alright!”
“One, two, three!”
The two of them bolted off running before running off the cliff together before landing in the water with a big splash.
Ariyoung shot out of the water first with a gasp for air and Kai was right behind her. He grabbed her waist and she wrapped her arms around his shoulder.
“That was amazing!” She exclaimed.
“You want to try it again?” Kai asked her as they swam to shore.
She shook her head. “No, I’m exhausted now. Maybe in a bit?”
After the jump, they took a seat on a few flat boulders to dry out and relax.
“How come it took us this long to actually talk? We’ve been going to school together for almost three years.” Kai turned to her with a charming grin.
Ariyoung shrugged and sat up to wrap her arms around her knees. “I honestly don’t know. I mean, my best friend is yours as well.”
Kai chuckled. “I’m glad that we’re talking now though, Ariyoung.”
She met his eyes and smiled sincerely. “Same here. You’re not what I thought you would be, you know.”
He raised a brow at her. “What kind of person did you think I was?”
“A playboy,” she bluntly confessed. “With that grin, height and slick dance moves, no wonder the girls at school drool over you.”
Kai scoffed. “I am not a playboy,” he argued. “And if I’m correct, you’re drooling over me right now.”
Ariyoung lightly pushed him as she laughed. “Don’t be so full of yourself.”
Kai laughed and tucked a hair behind her ear. Ariyoung slightly inched away from his touch but didn’t refuse it. “You know, you’re beautiful. I was honestly thinking that you were those high maintenance, snobby rich girls, but you’re not.”
Ariyoung smiled and rested her chin on her knee. “I get that a lot, along with the stereotypical girl next door, angel and the girl who is perfect. I’m not perfect, not even close.”
“Oh I think you are,” Kai grinned as she blushed.
“Stop it,” she whined and hid behind her auburn hair.
“Stop what?” He laughed and nudged her shoulder.
“Urgh, never mind.” Ariyoung turned to glance at the sun. “I think we should get going before they notice that we’re gone. Don’t you think?”
Kai sighed. “Yeah, let’s go.”
He stood up and held out his hands for her and she grabbed them as he pulled her up. They slightly stumbled on the boulder and he grabbed her waist to secure her. Instead of pulling away, Kai caught her eyes and just grinned.
“Um, awkward?” Ariyoung laughed, trying to get out of the situation.
“Hey, let’s meet here tonight,” Kai suggested. Her eyes slightly widened and she pulled away from Kai. “I mean, we only dived once. It’s way more fun at night.”
Ariyoung glanced at the cliff then back at Kai. “Yeah, why not. What time?”
“How about right after dinner? So let’s say, seven?”
Ariyoung nodded. “Alright, seven it is.”
