Description
As writers, we all strive for perfection, however sometimes we just need a little help to get there. Welcome to “I'd like to buy a beta.” This shop is for those writers who want to have a second opinion for their piece before they publish it to the world. Run by MusicChibi, Gweyeopda and, Scheherazade, we're here to go through your piece with you. Whether it be through PM, Skype, AIM, Google docs or another way to communicate, we're striving to give you a one-on-one experience for your pieces to be polished and just what you imagined.
As betas, our job is to go through your piece via whatever medium you send to us (i.e. Skype, MSN, AIM, google, etc.) from there, we'll go through and point out the little things that might have been overlooked such as grammatical errors, commas, tense changes and so forth. We will also strive to give suggestions and feedback and help the writer grow. We are not editors, we do not fix mistakes. We point them out and it is up to you, as the writer to decide if those mistakes will be kept or if they will be changed. This is a learning process where you get to know what your strengths and your weaknesses are and grow into a polished writer.
Keep in mind, that as betas, we will leave some sentences untouched, for stylistic purposes must be taken into account, however, if you wish to adapt to our specific style of writing (the chosen beta, that is), please inform us. Otherwise, we will just point out technical difficulties.
For those of you who do not know what a beta is, Chibi shall explain: A beta reader is similar, but completely different, from an editor, for a beta is a person who reads written work with a critical eye, and has a goal of improving grammar, spelling, characterization, and general style. Typically, it's prior to the release of a chapter or the entire story itself. Essentially, we, the beta readers, serve as your proofreader for spelling and grammar errors. We may, depending on if we take it upon ourselves or not, mention plot holes, loose ends, problems with continuity, characterization, believability, and etc. within the story. We want to help you make your the story the best it can be, even if we may have to go out of our way to help you do research.

The Reason for Recommendation:
Even though the author of this fan fiction is a beta at the shop, another beta recommended it, because not only did they think it was well executed, but well-written, as well. It draws you in and keeps you reading, if it's the kind of story you like. It's something to at least check out if you enjoy the genres the story falls into.

Wait, the shop's closing? I respect your decision, but I'm still a bit sad. Although I admit I haven't been the fastest or focused alpha - and I'd really like to apologize for that - the advice I received from my beta were extremely useful. I never received an answer for my earlier question, but I assume that the answer was 'no'... I nominated someone more than a month ago, but I don't see my nomination here. Did it slip through the cracks? Was it rejected? I never got an answer. It was for the category "Best Alternate Universe/Reality/Fantasy/Sci-Fi" and would have brought the nomination count to four. I don't mean to be bothersome at all, I'm just confused. :\
