Description
"I - " Jungsu dropped the rag down on the sink and was about to leave the kitchen when she shook her head.
"You can stay. I don't care."
Jungsu reluctantly picked up the rag again to continue shining the glass when she dug through her purse. When he glanced at her next, she was wiping away her smudged mascara with a wipe. Without the heavy eye makeup, she looked like she could be anyone off the streets.
"I wish I could be doing other things, but the world's not such an easy place," she said. She sighed and uncapped her lipstick and looked into the mirror. "But it's a living, you know?"
Then she put on a fresh coat of red lipstick over her lips. When she finished, she smacked her lips together and scrutinized her reflection once more before finally stepping away from the mirror again.
"What am I doing, complaining to a 15-year-old," she said with a laugh. "You won't understand any of this if you tried."
Foreword
This is my second major project and my fifth story, and one that began with the thought, "What is the angstiest possible story I can think of?" Under Red Lanterns is a very different story from "Kyuhyun... It's been hard on you." in a lot of ways. It will deal with more mature themes, will hopefully be angstier, and will contain the smallest hint of romance. But perhaps the most different is that it’s actually supposed to be a planned-out story with a definite storyline unlike KIBHOY, which was really more of a chronicle than a story with a plot. So although it is going to be much, much shorter, it will be entirely my creation, so I will be - and already am - more attached to this story than I am to KIBHOY.
Like always, there are people to thank. The first is LostInDreams - I would never even have conceived this story if not for her, and I definitely wouldn't have penned it if not for her. She helped me iron out the kinks and encourages me every step of the way, and I thank her so much for it.
Another huge thank you goes to yehyun and her Dreality Poster Shop, who has again provided me with a beautiful poster and the chapter banners.
And of course, you, the reader - thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy, and like always, comments are always, always appreciated!
Sincerely,
Janie

omfg this is worrying me now. Mr. Baek is so shady! OMG. I'm like dying here. Maybe he's actually a good person, but right now, I'm saying that he's going to be bad. sdljkfalsdkfj
gumgumjojo on says about chapter 7:
I have a reeeaally bad feeling about baek. I mean, a bar? maybe he'll use poor teukie and minnie as prostitutes :( and kyuhyun.. ohmygod.. it's so sad :'( he just opened up to leeteuk and then they had to leave.. this story is just so sad, but I love it! thank you for writing this.
sujuforever98 on says about chapter 7:
I pity leeteuk ang Sungmin. The new parent seems so cold-hearted
velvetinnocence on says about chapter 7:
That Mr. Baekhyun seems really suspicious. Jungsu and Sungmin are just way too innocent and nice I hope they don't get hurt. It's really sad that right after Kyuhyun managed to open up they left. :( that sense of betrayal... Jungsu really loves his brother that he'll sacrifice his own education and work hard to ensure the best for Sungmin...
Primardya on says about chapter 7:
i just wondered if jungsu and sungmin can still get their education though maybe they must to work in that place.and i hope kyu don't get mad when he knows the reality happening to both brother couple.
HenryyyMochiii89 on says about chapter 7:
Aw. These poor children, you all breaks my heart! :( </3
Come here and give me a hug! Lemme adopt you eh?
SapphireBlueGirl on says about chapter 7:
I knew it. I knew Baek was fishy. He's freaking weird okay and nobody can change my mind. Be smart and don't piss him off you babies. Or send him into jail. Either works for me to be quite honest. Mr. Baek is really rubbing me the wrong way.
As for Kyuhyun, that poor thing, left all alone to fend for himself. At least Mrs. Kim or whatever her name is, is nicer than his previous orphanage people? I'm hoping we're going to see him more after this though, since you tagged the story with Kyuhyun and he's only shown up for a few chapters.
Going back to my comment from August 2012, I had called Baek a _____e. Did I like, predict the future or something? (don't answer that actually) lol I take that back. I'll adopt them. All three, you can leave them alone Baek. GTFO, we don't want you. xDDD
GamingAway on says about chapter 7:
I knew something like that would happen. :( I hope someones going to do something.
And poor Kyu. D: Left alone at the orphanage. Hopefully, he won't do something stupid, like not taking his medicine. Though that would be interesting to read.
kyunniebiased4life on says about chapter 7:
I knew Baek was trouble when he walked in! Kyaaaaa Kyu :'( i hope everything turns alright to all of them
stormyskygrl on says about chapter 7:
oh geez... he's gonna put them to work at his bar/establishment place, isn't he??
I'm curious to see how Kyuhyun will fit in the story now that they are separated
