“Why don’t you just run away with me? You can go back to the US. We can always live there,” her best friend offered.

She laughed at his proposition. She had always known he loves her more than a friend but she wasn’t sure if she is able to reciprocate that love. Well, maybe…and maybe running away with him would be so much easier for all of them.

But she simply answered…“My father would kill me.”

But it was more than that, the reason why she decided to stay.

“Meeting with him again?” he grasped her arm and turned her around to face him.

“So?” she smirked at him.

“You’re not going,” he said firmly. “From now on I forbid you to meet with other men, even my brother who you call your best friend but who’s actually your lover!” his voice rose with each word.

“Oh, as if you care what I do and who I’m with!” she yelled.

“I don’t,” he answered harshly. “I just care about how I’m the laughing stock of the whole town because my wife is cheating on me, in my face, even in broad daylight!”

His eyes widened and he visibly swallowed as he watched the goddess before him untie the knots of her robe and pushed it from her shoulders, letting it slide to the floor.

It was all it took to make him lose his self-control and give in to his desire.

She held back her tears as she raised her chin up at him defiantly. “Isn’t this what you wanted? So that you would be free and you could be with her?”

 “Stop accusing me with nonsense. You’re the one who ran away with him!” his voice was low but his tone was unmistakably harsh.

He held up his right hand, showing her the wedding band on his ring finger. “Well I’ll tell you what, sweetheart. You could run away with him wherever and whenever you want but you would stay bound to me. If this marriage is both our prison, then so be it!”
