Chapter 4

                    “Oh, annyeonghaseyo, Kimberly-ssi?”

                    “Yes? It’s me.”

                    “Annyeonghaseyo. We’re calling from Samsung,” the voice from the other line said. Kimberly looked at the rest with wide eyes before mouthing ‘It’s Samsung’ to them. They all went crazy before nudging her to turn on the speaker.

                    “Oh, yes. Is there anything we can help?”

                    “Yes, Kimberly-ssi. Thank you for accepting our request today. Your team did a very great job. Did you receive the money from one of our staff?”

                    “Yes, we did. Thank you.”

                    “No! Thank you! Now we’d like to ask you a favor. We haven’t decided when, where, or how we’re going to hire your team again, but, let me say it straight, can you not accept any job from any other companies before the next time we contact you again?”

                    Some of the girls silently squealed. At least it meant that they were already secured with another job offering from Samsung. Min and Kimberly, however, frowned and looked at each other.

                    “May I know the reason, Miss…”

                    “Hyejoo. My name is Choi Hyejoo.”

                    “Yes. May I know the reason, Hyejoo-ssi?”

                    Miss Choi paused for a few seconds before continuing, “Ah, it’s nothing, Kimberly-ssi. It’s just about the deals and business. Starting from today, your team will be recognized along with our brand anyway. You’re going to be on the headlines!”

                    “Hmm…”

                    “What do you think? We can guarantee you another job in the future.”

                    Fiona nodded firmly, signaling Kimberly to answer yes, but the leader said otherwise.

                    “I apologize, Hyejoo-ssi. I’m afraid we cannot guarantee you that. First of all, you knew well before you contacted us that we’re a street band, not a dance crew-”

                    The lady cut, “We can get you a live band job!”

                    “Thank you. We really appreciate that, but we’re not signed artist and we’re free to accept any job offered to us. We hope you understand that. If someone offers us a better job, we will have to take that one prior to yours, Hyejoo-ssi,” Kimberly ended her sentenced, suddenly earning a frown from Fiona.

                    The voice on the other line sighed, “Okay. We understand, Kimberly-ssi. We will contact you again next time. Thank you!”

                    Kimberly ended the call. The girls sighed, but they knew Kimberly was right. They were just expecting Samsung to offer them another job and not just calling to control them like that.

                    “Pegasus?” Manager Im started.

                    “Pegasus.”

                    “Yeah, yeah, that Pegasus team.”

                    “One vote for Pegasus from me.”

                    “Whatever they’re called. That team with American looking girls.”

                    “Yes, that’s Pegasus, the one with Kimberly. One vote from me too.”

                    “Maknae, now it’s only you,” Suho called out.

                    Sehun shrugged, “Five to one. If I chose someone else, you’ll still pick those winged horse girls anyway.”

                    “True,” Suho laughed it off, but their manager cut him.

                    “No. Remember you’re not the only one making the decision. I have one vote and other staff members have one vote each. Your vote might win. Which one, maknae?”

                    “Ugh. Them. Pegasus or whatever! Satisfied? Do we really need girls in our music video?” Sehun scoffed.

                    “You know you can’t stick with Luhan hyung forever, maknae…” Chanyeol joked, receiving a dead glare from him.

                    “Okay, okay. Enough. Others actually voted for Pegasus too. So, Pegasus? The staff will go get them tomorrow. Wanna tag along, kids?”

                    It was another evening the girls set up their equipments for their regular live band on the streets of Hongdae. They were more than excited to perform a new song Kimberly wrote. Unlike their normal days, the girls would perform their original songs only once in a while. Today, the girls were specially hyped because their leader actually wrote an upbeat rock song and not just a slow, sad acoustic tune she preferred.

                    “Annyeonghaseyo, everyone!” Julianne, the vocalist of the band, took the microphone and greeted the crowd in Korean. Some people answered, and some just clapped.

                    “Is there any fan of us around? What day is it today?” She asked.

                    “The last Friday of the month!” Someone among the crowd actually answered, making her smile from ear to ear.

                    “Yes. It’s the last Friday of the month, which means we’re here with another original song. Be surprised, because I’m surprised myself, that our Kimberly-unnie actually wrote a rock track,” she paused and the crowd cheered, “But before the surprise, we’re going to perform covers first. Hope you enjoy the night!”

                    They did not let a single minute slip away. Wendy hit her drum sticks together four times and the song started. As usual, the crowd enjoyed and started to sing along with Julianne’s sweet voice leading.

                    Several songs passed and Manager Im finally stepped out of his van, followed by three other people, Suho, and D.O. They all spread out among the crowd. Obviously, listening to live songs from the van with windows slightly rolled down didn’t satisfy them at all.

                    “If hyung didn’t use his free time last night to stalk these girls online, I wouldn’t believe it’s the same team as those female dancers who almost won yesterday,” Suho whispered to D.O who shrugged lightly.

                    “It’s the other way around for me though.”

                    “You knew them before?”

                    “Kind of. Look, hyung, it’s time to separate. See you after this thing ends, okay?”

                    “See you.”
