Chapter 39

                     Sehun could hear himself panting, and that was the only sound besides the sound of waves constantly hitting the shore. His eyes wandered in the dark until he spotted a dark shadow on the floor. It could’ve been something or someone else. Especially when he was in a foreign town like this, he had to be careful, but he was more eager to find them.

                     It wasn’t long until he could clearly make out what the dark shadow was as he stepped closer. It was them; Kimberly and D.O were sitting on the ground, facing each other, dangerously close to each other, looking at each other- No. The boy was the only one looking, and the girl was still oblivious of the boy’s face moving closer.

                     Half of Sehun already rushed to the scene, but the other half stopped him. He froze in place with his jaws and fists clenched. Because the answer from her was still unknown. Because that one damn answer was still not clear. He couldn’t abruptly barge in between them as if he owned her.

                     But the next minute he knew, he already did.

                     Kimberly was yanked up from the floor and she had to hop on her right foot to stay in balance. Sehun quickly lent her his strong arm, which she grabbed automatically. D.O fell backwards and stared at the boy with his round eyes.

                     “Hyung,” Sehun called out, “I have something to talk to her. Hope you don’t mind.”

                     In a split second, D.O changed from his shocked face to a smile, a very sad smile. He replied, “Of course. What rights do I have to stay?”

                     Upon hearing Sehun’s statement, she was already panicking. She pushed his hand away and tried to stand on her own. As she heard D.O’s answer, she felt even worse and tears rushed to her eyes. D.O smiled and nodded at her before turning to walk away.

                     “Kyungsoo!”

                     Her weakening voice came out as a whisper, but it affected the owner of the name strongly. The boy turned back and walked up to her before leaning in.

                     “Everything’s gonna be alright,” he whispered to her ears. That was when she grabbed his shirt and he brushed it off.

                     Now that it was only her and Sehun…

                     Sehun’s first reaction when they both were left alone was… a hug. A big tight hug as if he could bury her into his chest.

                     That was also when she cried. Kimberly cried silently into his chest while her body was shaking a little bit. It hurt him to see her like that, and it wasn’t the first time. She had cried in his embrace before, and the reason was him. The reason that she had quite an argument with her father was actually him, or you could say it was him and the other boys, but it was still him.

                     He just had to find out right now if she was crying because of him again or not.

                     He slowly brought her away from him. She automatically looked up, and his heart almost broke into pieces. “Don’t- Don’t cry… Why are you crying?”

                     She wouldn’t answer, but she wouldn’t stop crying either, so he brought her back into his embrace again. This time she hugged him back. Not knowing how much time had passed, but they only realized they were walking side by side along the beach as soon as she stopped crying.

                     “Now will you tell me why you were crying?”

                     She sniffed, “What does that have to do with you?”

                     He was taken aback. Not again. The boy cleared his throat before changing the topic, “Then will you tell me the answer to my question?”

                     He stopped walking and turned to face her, but he noticed how she walked faster, so he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. Now that she was trying to avoid his eyes…

                     “What am I to you? Kim, what am I to you…?”

                     She paused before scoffing, “I don’t think that’s the matter right now, Sehun.” He frowned. “Do you have that much time to care about me? Don’t you think your girl will dislike it if she knew you were with me like this?”

                     He also scoffed, unable to believe what she just said. He raised his voice, “Then if it were you, how will you react?!”

                     “Obviously I won’t like it if my man was walking in the dark side by side with another girl.”

                     The conversation was getting intense as they both started to sound angry.

                     Sehun replied, “Hah… Funny. You could’ve walked away from me from the beginning if you cared about other girls that much, Kim-”

                     Not letting him finish, she turned around and walked away as he said, but obviously he would pull her back again.

                     “See? You wouldn’t let me go!” she cried out.

                     “I’d be an idiot if I let you go!”

                     “I’d be an idiot if I walked away from the beginning too! You’re making me a bad person, Sehun! This is so wrong! I shouldn’t be with you, did you not realize? Or are you just one of those guys who like to play around with many girls at a time?!”

                     “Why would you care then? Why would you care if I’m committing a crime towards my girl or not, Kim? I’m just your inspiration, ain’t I? Maybe it’s better not to hear your answer because it’d probably hurt like hell!”

                     “Why would it hurt you?! It hurts because you won’t be able to fool around with me anymore because I like you? Because you can’t have two girls at a time, right?”

                     Sehun froze.

                     He felt butterflies in his stomach.

                     He felt his heart racing.

                     He felt happiness and joy growing inside him.

                     He felt like it was the right time to smile, but before he could do so, her tears dropped and she turned away again.

                     The boy grabbed her wrist and swiftly pulled her into his embrace. She tripped on her injured ankle immediately and lost the ability to protest. His left arm was wrapped tightly around her waist. The familiar sensation. His right hand was on top of her head, caressing her hair smoothly.

                     “I’m sorry,” he mumbled.

                     She felt her heart breaking into pieces, but she clutched onto him tighter.

                     “I’m sorry for making you cry. I’m the bad guy here. I should’ve believed in you…”

                     She didn’t budge, so he continued, “Remember the story I told you? The story about her?” She buried her nails into his back unconsciously.

                      “I told you I couldn’t have her, right? I told you I couldn’t be with her because she had someone more important to her, right? You know… not so long ago I was filled with hope because that important someone just gave me a chance. I took the chance, and the result turned out really well. I think I’m the luckiest person in this world-”

                     The girl pulled away and wiped her tears, “So now it’s a happy ending for you and her? If you came just to tell me that, you’re the most aggressive jerk in this world.”

                     He smiled, and she scoffed. Funny, she cried even harder while she tried to act as if she was okay. He pulled his arms away from her. The moment she felt something suddenly missing. The next moment, he used both hands to cup her face and wiped her tears away with his thumbs.

                     As he leaned in closer, she couldn’t help but feel her heartbeat rushing. It was so wrong-

                     “Because that girl I like… is you.”

                     The sweet whispers were right next to her ears.

                     “Cut!”

                     “Cut!”

                     The two jumped away from each other at the loud voice. The next second they were facing a big bright flashlight from not so far away in front of them. They squinted, and there stood Director Han with one hand on his hip and the other holding a megaphone.

                     Next to him was probably everybody they could think of. The EXO boys gave them a funny look. Baekhyun and Chanyeol even dramatically made kissing sounds while hugging each other. D.O and Brian were giving Kimberly a thumb up. Pegasus girls squealed and constantly teased them in various ways.

                     Sehun frowned at them in discontent while Kimberly turned red. She stared at them in shock and there was still a trace of tears on her cheeks.

                     “Hey! Can you do that again?” the director shouted. Sehun furrowed his brows.

                     Shinah added, “Can you do that again while speaking loudly? We were too far away so we couldn’t hear you.”

                     Behind Shinah was Wook who was waving at them like a madman. They noticed just now that they both were surrounded by hidden cameras. Kimberly buried her face in her palms in embarrassment. Sehun noticed it and pulled her away from the crowd.
