All was still.
Everyone stared at Jungah and Liang.
Then Liang’s lips curved into an evil smirk.
Jaehyo was the first to make a sound. “NOOO! JUNGAHHHH!”
Dumbfounded, Jungah looked downwards at the gaping wound in her stomach. Her white shirt was quickly turning red. Everythung turned hazy. Excruciating pain spread from her open abdomen to every part of her body. Her breathing became louder, and she a painful gasp of air escaped her lips. Her legs felt like jello, and she collapsed onto them.
“JUNGAH! LET ME GO! ! JUNGAHHH!” Jaehyo screamed as he leapt towards her. However, the gang held him back and prevented him from reaching his wounded sister.
Jungah slowly rolled her eyes upwards towards Liang.
The man who had shot her came forward and bowed, “Are you all right, sir?”
Liang grinned at his subordinate and patted his shoulder, “Good job, Li.”
They looked towards Jungah. A tear slipped down her face as she gave him one last resentful look.
“What shall we do with her, sir?” Li asked.
“Leave her to die. The seagulls will take care of her in the morning.” Liang carelessly waved. They walked away.
Jungah grunted painfully as she doubled over in pain. Her palm landed on the dirty ground. With her left hand, she touched her stomach. She pulled her hand away. It was stained red with her blood. Her vision became blurry as she slumped forwards. The men dragged Jaehyo away. He thrashed wildly, “LET GO OF ME, YOU BASTARDS! JUNGAH! JUNGAH!”
She lifted her heavy eyes up and breathed, “Oppa…” Jungah reached out, “Jaehyo…oppa…” She fell onto the ground in an unconscious heap. Jungah woke up by the droplets of water hitting her skin. She struggled to open her eyes and looked upwards. The clouds had broken, and rain had started to fall. *It was raining on the day Zico has died as well…*
Jungah pushed herself up and flopped onto her back with an audible moan. She struggled to catch her breath as she looked up at the dark sky. Rain pelted over her. The raindrops mixed with her blood, and the water turned red. Her shirt was soaked and sticky with blood and rain. Her body temperature quickly changed from hot to cold.
*So this is how Zico felt lying there all alone in that building as he waited for death to come…lonely, cold, rejected, helpless, lost…* Jungah squeezed her eyes shut as tears spilled down her face. *I have failed you, Zico. I’m so sorry. I was foolish in thinking I could do something for you.*
Blood gushed out of her wound. She gasped in pain and opened her eyes. She could feel her life slipping away from her. Her entire life flashed before her eyes. *Why had I taken everything for granted? Why couldn’t I just smile and enjoy life as it is? I never believed it when people said that life was short.*
Her memory froze on her 19th birthday, the most blissful day of her life.
It was the day that Kris had confessed to her. It was the day she finally met requited love.
Her eyes filled with tears, and she choked on a sob. She wanted to see Kris so badly. She wanted to see him one last time, but that didn’t seem possible right now when she had inflicted so much undeserved pain to him. *He probably hates me. He probably never wants to see me again. I understand. I deserve it. But still…I want to see him…* Her eyes began to fall close.
The orange sports car screeched to a sideway halt. Kris swiftly stepped out of the car and looked at the deathly silent port. Rain poured over him and drenched his clothes. “Jungah…” He could feel that something had gone terribly wrong. “JUNGAH!”
Kris raced towards the dock. He ran all over the place, trying to search for any sign of his beloved.
“JUNGAH! JUNGAH! WHERE ARE YOU?!” Kris took out his phone and called her. He put the phone to his ear and spun around. His heart palpitated in his ribcage. He had never been so scared in his entire life. “The phone you are trying to reach is not available. Please leave a message-“
“DAMN IT!” Kris cursed loudly. He began to run in the direction of the dock. Kris stopped when he saw several steel rods on the floor. His eyes rounded, and his hands began to shake. *Please don’t tell me they hurt her with these. Oh God…* Eyes wide, he ran forward.
Kris turned the corner and stopped.
There was a petite figure lying next to the cargo boxes.
Time stopped. His pulse pounded loudly in his fears. Fear gripped his heart.
He couldn’t do anything but stare wide-eyed at the limp figure on the ground.
*Please…* Kris took a step forward. *Don’t let that be Jungah. It can’t be Jungah. It just can’t…*
“Jungah…” He croaked. “Jungah?” When he came closer, he realized his fear had come true.
It was Jungah on the floor. And she was dying.
“JUNGAH!” Kris darted over.
“Jungah! Jungah! Oh God. JUNGAH! HAN JUNGAH! My baobei…” An angel’s tears hit her face.
Her eyebrows slightly knit together in confusion and sadness. “No, my angel. Don’t weep. It hurts to see you cry.” Kris gathered her frail body in his arms and sobbed, “Jungah, please wake up! Open your eyes! You can’t just go like this!” Miraculously, her eyes began to open. He stopped crying, and he stared at her in shock.
“Jungah…” Kris whispered.
Jungah drifted her gaze up to his wet face. *It’s him. It’s really Kris, the one person I wanted to see so much.* Her hand reached out and touched his face. The coldness of her hand shocked him.
Kris wrapped his fingers around her frigid hand. “What happened to you?” He whispered. Kris looked down at her bleeding wound, and he looked back up at her face with frustration and misery. “W-why would you do this all by yourself? Why didn’t you come to me? I could have helped you.”
Tears formed in her eyes. *I was stupid, I know. And this the price I pay for my stupidity.* “You shouldn’t have come.” That was all she could whisper.
His eyebrows furrowed together, “Of course I would come! Look at you, Jungah! You have a ing bullet in your stomach! Was it your wish to end up dying like Zico?!”
Jungah opened to answer, but all that came out was a bunch of wheezing coughs.
Immediately, Kris regretted yelling at her. He pressed her closely against his warm body. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to shout at you. I was just so frustrated. God damn it.” Kris hissed and squeezed his eyes shut when he saw the blood surging out of the hole in her abdomen.
Jungah stretched out her hand and clasped onto his jacket. Kris opened up his eyes and looked down at her. “Kris….Kris…” Jungah kept on calling his name in a raspy voice. The way she trembled like a wet dog in his arms made his heart ache. “I’m here. I’m here, Jungah.” He squeezed her hand.
Jungah lifted her gaze to him. Her eyes clouded with doleful tears. “I’m…sorry…”
His eyes softened.
“I didn’t mean to…make you sad…I only wanted…to protect you…” She gasped as another ripple of excruciating pain waved throughout her body. Her hands automatically curled around his shirt, and she gripped onto him with shaking hands. Kris held her tightly. “You don’t have to explain anything, Jungah. Even if you don’t say it, I know. So please don’t waste your breath.” His eyes blurred with his own tears.
“But I want to say it…before it’s too late…” Jungah whispered.
Kris pulled back and stared at her in horror. “No, Jungah…”
She looked him calmly in the eyes, “Everything I said to you that day…was a lie…I didn’t mean…any of it…Please know that…”
“Jungah.” Kris felt his heart crushing at her confession. Her eyelids drooped, and she felt the numbness took over.
“Kris…” Jungah whispered. “Yes, baby?” He responded.
She used her last breath to say, “I…love you.”
His eyes widened. Her eyes fell completely shut, and her lifeless body slumped in his arms.
Just like Zico, Jungah was gone from this world.
He would never be able to see her blush whenever he kissed her anymore.
He would never be able to see her roll her eyes and smirk anymore.
He would never be able to share her ipod in the darkness anymore.
He would never be able to hold her hand and walk down the forest lane with her anymore.
He would never be able to love another girl anymore.
Kris lowered his head and wept. “I love you, too.”
