It was raining heavily.
The windshield wipers desperately tried to wipe the buckets of water being poured onto the window.
Finally, one-fourth of a mile away, Jungah spotted the small light of an abandoned warehouse.
“There!” Jungah desperately pointed. “It’s over there!”
Kris swiftly turned the car around.
The car came to a screeching halt. Dirty water and grimy mud splashed all over the windows.
Jungah flung open the door and stepped out into the pouring rain. Getting drenched and catching a cold was the least of her worries right now. Without hesitating, she ran towards the warehouse.
The deafening sound of another gunshot made her come to an abrupt stop. Her eyes widened, and she stared at the warehouse in horror. Her heart fell in dread.
“Zico…” Jungah whispered. “ZICO!” She shrieked. Then without dithering, she darted into the danger zone.
“Jungah! JUNGAH!” Kris screamed her name, but it was too late. She was gone. *!* Kris hastily scrambled after her. He jumped into the warehouse and looked around. He heard shouts in one direction and headed towards them.
Jungah was running out of breath, but she wouldn’t stop. She wouldn’t stop running until she found Zico. Jungah skidded to a stop. Her wide, alarmed eyes frantically searched the room. She tried to listen for Zico’s voice, but the thundering of her heart interrupted her hearing. *God dammit! Where can Zico be?!*
Her ears picked up on the sound of a click of a gun.
Before a bullet could crack her head open, someone tackled her into the ground.
Jungah turned around to see Kyung on top of her. He got off of her and yanked her up.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!” Kyung snarled. There was no kindness or cheerfulness on his face, and that scared Jungah. It meant this was the real deal. They were all in trouble.
Jungah grabbed his jacket and desperately searched his eyes, “Kyung, where’s Zico?! Where did Zico go?! I can’t find him anywhere.” His face fell at the mention of Zico. Her eyes suspiciously narrowed, and she tightened her grip on him, “Zico is all right, isn’t he?! TELL ME THAT HE’S OKAY!”
“I don’t know!” Kyung blurted. Jungah stared at him in disbelief as fear clouded her eyes.
“We were all split up after one of them rang the first shot.” He confessed. Her shoulders slumped in despair. *No one knows what happened to Zico?* The snap of a branch made both of them look up.
Kyung’s eyes widened. *.*
Jungah stared at the man pointing the gun at them. She squint her eyes to get a closer look at him. The male looked Korean, but she remembered him as being one of Kris’s friends.
Kyung protectively stretched his arms out, “Stay behind me, Jungah.” He glared at Chen spitefully, “If you’re going to kill me, do it, but leave the girl alone.”
With a blank expression, Chen pointed the gun at his face. Right before he was about to pull the trigger, a body shot out and tackled him to the ground.
“NO, CHEN!” Kris fiercely roared.
Kyung stared at Kris on the ground. *What is he doing here? Was he the one that brought Jungah here? How did he know we would be here?* But this wasn’t the best time for questions. Kyung scrambled up and pulled Jungah up. “You need to get out of here. Now!” She spun around with a wrathful hiss, “I’m not leaving without Zico!”
“Jungah! Stop!” Kyung yelled, but she had already ran away. “!” Kyung ran after her, but he became preoccupied with one of Liang’s men after him.
Kris got up and snarled heatedly, “WHAT THE IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?! DIDN’T YOU SEE JUNGAH?! YOU COULD’VE KILLED HER!”
Chen got up with a casual dust of the dirt on his knees. He stared at Kris evenly, “I was given orders. I wasn’t going to hurt your girlfriend, but I was going to get rid of the other side.”
Kris swore under his breath. Sometimes, Chen would be frustratingly merciless.
Kris darted off to find Jungah.
Jungah raced into a large, open dirty room that was caked with fungus and dirt. She came to a halt and stared at the ground in horror. There were dead bodies everywhere. Jungah began shaking from the inside out. Her stomach churned at the ghastly sight of blood. She wanted to vomit. Her legs crumbled out from beneath her, and she sank onto the dirty ground. She felt a dead body by her feet, and fleetingly crawled away from it. Her head spun, and her pulse pounded in her ears. *So many dead bodies. What if one of them belongs to Zico?*
Jungah shook her head in denial. *No, don’t think such y thoughts, Han Jungah. Zico is strong. He would have made it. He would have run away. He would have beat everyone.*
Legs quivering, she stood up and exhaled while trembling uncontrollably.
Swallowing hard, Jungah mustered up the courage to move forward. Her eyes examined each corpse.
To her relief, none of them looked familiar.
However, Jungah stopped. There was a dead body she recognized. Her heart beat fast. She ran over and tripped on an unseen crack. Jungah looked up in terror. The dead body wasn’t any of Block B’s, thank God, however, it was a familiar face.
She had only seen him once, yet she remembered his face.
It was none other than Block B’s boss, Cho.
His eyes were still wide open, and a bullet seemed to have pierced his heart.
*Oh…my…God…* Her hands were shaking so hard, she thought she was having a seizure.
Jungah gripped onto the dirt beneath her hands as tears squeezed out of her eyes. *They got him, which means they could get Zico.*
At that particular moment, a wheezing cough was heard not too far away. Jungah stiffened. She looked up with alert eyes. *Who was that?!*
The coughing came from a body just several yards away.
Gulping down her nausea, Jungah got up and walked towards the sound.
The sound came to her left, and she whipped her head in that direction.
Then her world became dark, and her life shattered before her eyes.
Because lying down bleeding to death was Zico himself.
For the first couple minutes, Jungah couldn’t do anything but stare at his body. She stared and stared and stared. was open in disbelief. *I’m dreaming right now. This is nothing but a nightmare. In a few seconds, I’ll wake up. Zico will be okay. We won’t be in such a terrible place. We’ll all be safe.*
But the word ‘safe’ seemed so foreign to her.
It didn’t seem like they had ever really been safe at all.
Zico began to cough up blood. That woke up Jungah immediately.
She fled towards him, “Zico!” He opened his eyes. Surprise crossed his wan face. “J-Jungah…”
Her sobs clogged , and she looked at his bloody body in horror. It seemed as if a bullet had planted itself into the side of his stomach where his liver was. Blood seeped through his black jacket and colored the blanket an angry, dark red. Jungah placed her hand gently on his abdomen, as if she was afraid she would push his death faster.
“Z-Zico…w-what happened to you?” Jungah pulled back her hands. Her face became colorless at the sight of blood smeared on her fingers. *Zico’s blood.* Her hands shook hard.
“Jungah…” Zico gulped for air.
She turned her attention back to his face. He clenched his clammy hands in pain and gritted his teeth.
Jungah quickly grabbed his right fist with both her hands. Zico opened his eyes and stared at her.
For a minute, he forgot his pain.
“How did you let this get so far…?” Jungah whispered. He gave her a small, weak smile, “I guess I’m not that good at fighting after all. This is embarrassing. I boasted to you that I’m the jjang…and now look at me. I’m…dying.”
Jungah broke into a sob at the word.
Zico softened, “Jungah…”
She bent down and buried her face in his jacket. He closed his eyes and wrapped an arm around her waist. *My Jungah…you feel so warm now…*
