Jungah stared at the one-word message from Kris. *. He’s here already.* She quickly scrambled in front of the lengthy mirror and turned her back to it. She checked back to make sure her black miniskirt wasn’t preposterously flipped up or anything.
Jungah faced forward and applied shiny lip gloss on her lips. She took a deep breath and placed her hands over her palpitating heart. *God, why am I so nervous all of a sudden? I wasn’t like this before. This guy changed me so much. I’m even wearing ing lip gloss that I use to curse and damn to hell. Gah, I don’t want to be a lovesick puppy.*
Jungah shook her head and fixed her hair. *Whatever.* She grabbed her clutch and headed out the door. The elevator doors opened, and she stepped inside. Jungah held her breath as the elevator zipped downwards. With a light ping, it opened up. She stepped out and stopped at the entrance.
*Here I go for nothing.* Jungah in her breath and treaded out of the building.
Kris was standing next to the car. He looked cool and casual in a black shirt and dark fitting jeans. He stopped texting and looked up.
Suddenly, Jungah wanted to disappear into a hole. *He’s wearing jeans, and I’m wearing a damn skirt and heels. I feel so stupid. God, what were you thinking Han Jungah? That this was a black tie occasion? You’re going on a date, not on a marriage!*
Slowly, Kris straightened up. His hot gaze drifted up and down her slender body. He just couldn’t look away. He had no intention to. The fire of desire was burning hotter in his chest.
Jungah stepped back as surrepticiously as she could. But Kris noticed right away. “Why are you moving back?”
*.* “Nothing. I just… need to change.” Jungah quickly mumbled the last few words and turned to go.
Kris was faster and was in front of her in no time. She gave him a quizzical look, “What are you doing?” He replied with a question, “Why would you change?”
“Because I don’t like my outfit.” Jungah flatly replied.
“Well, I do. Isn’t that what you were aiming for?” Kris asked.
Jungah scowled, “Look, you-“
Kris swiftly spun her around and placed his big hands on her shoulders. He steered her towards the car.
“Hey, watch it!” She sneered as she was ducked into the car. Kris shut the door and locked it with his key before she could make an escape.
Jungah rolled her eyes and snorted in a huffy manner. She crossed her arms sourly and glared at him as he walked around the car and came into the driver’s seat. Kris ignored the death stare and clipped on his seatbelt. “Seatbelt.” He reminded. She continued to stare him down.
“Are you expecting me to do it for you?” Kris innocently asked. “I don’t expect anything from you.” Jungah muttered. After a curt pause, she put her seatbelt on.
“Did you eat breakfast?” Kris asked. “…No.” Jungah answered.
“Good. Me, too.” Kris started the car and sped off.
“Where are we going?” Jungah asked curiously.
“To get breakfast.” He stated. She rolled her eyes. *I’m asking where, you genius.*
Jungah self-consciously crossed her arms and looked out the window at the passing cars.
Kris glanced at her then smirked, “I see you put on lipgloss as well.”
Her cheeks flushed red. *Why does he notice EVERYTHING and doesn’t ever fail to point them out?!* She clenched onto her bag and pretended to not have heard him.
“Skirt looks new, too.” He murmured. She cringed slightly. *How did he know?*
The car came to a stop in front of the red traffic light.
Kris glanced at her. His gaze automatically shifted down to her endless, toned legs that were screaming for attention.
Jungah felt the heat of his stare and glimpsed at him. She squirmed uncomfortably, “What are you staring at?”
Kris shifted his gaze back up to her face, and she exhaled quietly in relief. However, she froze when she felt him reaching out to her. *Another random kiss?* She gulped as his fingertips touched her rosy cheek. Jungah felt her heart quicken as he began to lean in. She lifted her gaze up to him with courage. Her eyes shut halfway as his face came nearer. Before he could touch her lips, the car behind them angrily honked.
Kris pulled back in surprise. Jungah looked back at the irritated driver who was yelling and shaking his fist in rage. Kris looked up at the light. It was green.
“.” He cursed under his breath. With a shake of his head, he pressed on the gas and sped off.
“Slow down. There is a speed limit in Korea, you know.” Without thinking, Jungah placed a hand on his thigh. He glanced down at her hand on his lap and looked at her with an eyebrow raised. *!* She quickly withdrew her hand and coughed deliberately to cover up her embarrassment. *Why the hell did I touch him there? Han Jungah, you idiot. You are such a shame.* She briskly shook her head and looked back out the window.
Kris wanted to watch her reaction, but he didn’t want to get into an accident, especially with his girlfriend in the car. With a shake of his head, he looked forward and bit his bottom lip as he gripped onto the steering wheel. *Don’t do that while I’m driving, Jungah. It just throws everything off, and I won’t be able to handle it.*
After a long drive up the mountain, they finally arrived at the café in the woods.
Jungah got out of the car and stared up at the café in disbelief, “Here? Again?”
“Didn’t you like it?” Kris locked his car.
“Yeah, I did…” Jungah scratched her temple.
“Come on.” Kris held out his hand. Jungah grasped it, and he tugged her towards the door. He swung open the door and gently guided her inside.
The jolly owner greeted them, “Welcome to Sea of Tea- oh!” She pointed at them in recognition and beamed widely, “I remember you two! The fighting couple, right?”
Jungah and Kris glanced at each other. He tried to hide his smile as she looked away in humiliation. *How can she remember us among all her customers?! It’s all this giant’s fault! No one else is as tall as he is!*
The owner dropped her gaze to their hands and smiled knowingly. “I see the two of you are not arguing anymore.” She winked.
*I wish I was a mole rat so I can bury myself right here right now.* Jungah thought in mortification.
“She forgave me.” Kris smoothly placed his arm around her shoulder. Jungah shot him a look, and he gave her an innocent smile.
“I knew she had a big heart~” The owner cooed. She snatched two menus from the counter, “Right this way!” The owner led them to one of the tables in the back that was far apart from the other customers. “So that you two can have your privacy.” She gave another friendly wink and left.
“Oh God.” Jungah moaned as she slumped in her seat. “I will forever be known as the ungrateful girlfriend.”
“It’s okay. I know the truth. You’re not ungrateful. You just have a big attitude problem.” Kris stated as he casually looked through the menu.
Jungah shot him a murderous look, “This is all your fault.”
“I love you, too, babe.” Kris replied.
“Don’t call me that!” Jungah slammed her hand on the table.
At that moment, the owner appeared with glasses of water. She gave them a startled look as she set the water on the table, “I hope you two aren’t fighting again.”
*Crap!* Jungah slapped her hand over her face.
“We’re not.” Kris assured.
“Good. Do you know what you want?” The owner asked.
*Poison.* Jungah thought. “Americano.” Kris answered without hesitance.
Jungah gave him a puzzled look. The owner turned to her. “What about you, sweetie?”
“Um, I’ll have jasmine tea.” She answered.
“Perfect. Be right back.” The owner left.
Jungah sat up straight and asked, “Is Americano all you ever drink?” He looked at her. She shrugged insouciantly, “I’m just asking since you always order that whenever we go somewhere.”
“I have my preferences. I don’t really try new things.” Kris replied. Jungah slowly nodded. *Makes sense.*
“But you gave me the courage to try something new.” He revealed. She let her eyes fall upon him, “And what is that?”
“You gave me the courage to ask you out.” Kris confessed. Her expression softened. “I don’t know if you believe me or not…but you’re the first girl I’ve ever asked out. The first girl I’ve ever felt this way for. The first girl that made me want to do something new.” He gazed into her eyes. Her lips curled into the softest of smiles, “I believe you.”
Kris smiled back. The owner came back with the drinks and special snacks to eat, which were on the house.
After drinking, squabbling, teasing, and conversing, the couple left the café.
“Come back soon!” The owner waved.
Kris and Jungah waved back. Once they were outside, he took her hand again and slipped his other hand into his pocket. He gazed down at her with fondness, “Should we go for a walk?” Jungah nodded in agreement. He gave her an affectionate smile as he squeezed her hand and led her down the familiar pathway.
Jungah pulled away from him to take a better look at the blossom. She resembled an angel.
No, she was more breathtaking than an angel.
Kris took out his phone to take a picture to capture the perfect moment. However, Jungah looked away, “Don’t.”
He lowered his phone, “What?” “Don’t take a picture of me. I don’t like pictures.” She stated with her eyes still on the ground.
“I saw photos of you though.” Kris pointed out. “Those were all against my will. If you see them, you will notice that I don’t smile in any of those, which means I don’t like pictures. Period.” Jungah said matter-of-factly.
Kris gave her a look, “Zico can have as many picture with you as I want, but I can’t even have a photo of my own girl?” Jungah stiffened.
*. Spoke too soon.* Kris regretted right away. Before he could make it up, Jungah softly spoke, “You’re right.”
His eyes rounded. *Did she just admit it?*
Jungah looked at him. She took a deep breath. “One picture, okay? That’s it.”
Kris gave her an appreciative nod, “Just one.”
Jungah slightly tilted her head with a soft, sincere expression. For once, she wasn’t scowling or making a chilling poker-face when the camera was pointed at her. Kris held up the phone and aimed. “One. Two. Three.” He captured the picture of her and gazed at it with a triumphant smile. *Beautiful.*
“One more?” Kris couldn’t help but ask. Jungah gave him a look.
“Just one more.” He held up a finger. She tossed her arms in the air with a roll of her eyes but didn’t reject.
Jungah stared at the camera. “Smile, baby.” Kris breathed.
After a little hesitance, she finally managed a small smile. “You can do better.” He urged. Her lips hitched upwards without her knowing. “Perfect.” Kris took the picture.
“Keep that to yourself. No one must know that Queen knows how to smile.” Jungah attempted a joke to cover up her embarrassment.
Kris chuckled, “Don’t worry. This will be just for me.”
Jungah peered at the flower growing on the tree. Kris came from behind her, put his arms around her, and slyly aimed the camera at them. Jungah covered the lens of the phone, “You said that was one last picture, goddamit! Do you even know what ‘last’ means?! It means ‘the end’, ‘no more’, ‘take one more picture and die’!”
Kris lowered her hand, “I want a picture with you. No one will see this photo except us so what’s the big issue?”
Jungah sighed. In a way, he was right. She automatically curled her hair behind her ear.
“You look amazing.” Kris whispered in her ear. Her ear flushed at his husky whisper. He pointed the camera, and they both looked up at it. “So smile, baby.” Kris soothingly murmured in her ear. Their lips slightly curved upwards, and the usually cold-faced couple took a warm, smiling photo together. He lowered his arm, and they checked the picture to make sure it had come out right.
“I look weird. Smiling definitely doesn’t suit me.” Jungah muttered.
“I think you look fine, but we can try it again.” Kris held up the phone.
Jungah stared up at him as she tried to think of a facial expression. She felt a steady gaze on her, and turned her head to lock eyes with him. “What-“ Before she could finish her question, he leaned in and pressed his lips against hers. Her eyes shut right away this time. She heard an imperceptible click.
Kris broke the kiss, and Jungah blinked at him, dazed. He checked the photo of their kiss and smiled, “Perfect. I like this one better.” “Oh my god. You bastard! You tricked me!” She whacked his arm with a fierce look.
“You closed your eyes pretty fast this time.” He pointed out.
A rosy scarlet came on her face, “I-I don’t know w-what you’re talking a-about.”
Kris bent down and softly kissed her lips as he tenderly her bottom lip. Jungah felt her heart beat triple its rate. He pulled back and tenderly swept his eyes over her red face. “You’re cute when you stammer. You’re even cuter when you blush.” Kris murmured. He straightened up and walked away.
Jungah watched him her jaw wide open. She slapped her cheeks several times and shook her head to bring her back to earth. *Come back to your senses! Don’t turn into a lovesick freak!* Then her shoulders slumped in frustration, “But that’s not possible when I already am a lovesick freak. Damn you, Kris. What have you done to me?”
“Aren’t you coming?” He hollered. With a sigh of resignation, she went to catch up with him.
