TAXI - DBSK
Please listen to the song so that it can create a better mood! :)
Ahjumma = older married woman (middle aged woman)
Naeun yelped as a panting Kai appeared out of nowhere, startling her. Baekhyun didn’t seem too alarmed at his quick appearance.
“We need you to get us out onto the rooftop. Think you can teleport us?” Baekhyun spoke so fast that Naeun could barely catch what he was saying.
Kai smirked, linking arms with Baekhyun to form a chain. “Duh, that’s why I’m here.”
He snapped his fingers, and in a flash, they disappeared from the room. Not even a millisecond later, they found themselves on the roof of their house.
“Good luck.” Kai squeezed Baekhyun’s arm reassuringly, his face softening when his eyes landed on Naeun. Quickly, he pressed a kiss to the top of her hand, smiling kindly before vanishing again.
“You’re a sweet girl, Song Naeun.”
Naeun blinked, but then smiled softly again. *Jongin oppa… I wonder if I could see the members one last time before I go…* She hoped for it, but she didn’t count on it.
Baekhyun chuckled quietly, trying to get some humor in to lighten the mood, “Falling for Kai now, are we?”
“Of course not!” Naeun winced as her head started to spin. Baekhyun anxiously gazed at her. “I’m… alright.” She said in a wheezy voice. It hurt to do anything right now.
Various bangs, booms, and crashes made Naeun flinch in Baekhyun’s arms. Baekhyun muttered something under his breath and gazed into Naeun’s eyes, “Brace yourself.”
In one swift jump, Baekhyun was in the sky. His pearl white wings furiously flapped, trying to get as far away from the commotion as possible. Naeun gawped in awe as a tickling sensation filled her body. She was flying. She was soaring.
Meanwhile, the fight between an army of fighter angels and EXO was erupting. Action was everywhere.
“Come with us quietly, and we’ll make sure that this doesn’t get reported to the head angels. You all won’t be punished.” One of the angels, which seemed like the leader, bargained.
Kris was about to vent his anger out on them, but Suho grabbed his arm, shaking his head. Kris shrunk back and Suho calmly smiled at them.
“It doesn’t really matter if we get punished and go back with you, because we will keep Naeun alive, even if we get de-ranked by the head angels.” Suho’s blinding smile didn’t reach his eyes at all. In fact, his eyes were dark and cold.
“So bring it.”
If possible, the fight became even more heated and aggressive. The EXO boys had a reason to fight now, and they were even more motivated to help protect a fellow friend’s happiness.
Suho conjured up a sea in just a matter of seconds and hurled it at a couple of fighters, drowning them. Chen extended his palm, sending crackling high-voltage beams of electricity down into the water, combining the forces to create a type of water that shocks you if touched.
When you became an angel, it was impossible to die, under any infliction of pain, so the most the boys could do was knock their enemies unconscious.
Kai grinned as six enemies surrounded him. “Do you really think you can catch me?” He snapped his fingers and he disappeared.
“What the—it’s the teleporter angel!” One of them shouted furiously. Another tried attacking thin air with his spear. At the last moment, Kai reappeared above him with a flying kick. The angel fell, deeply unconscious.
Kai smiled gorgeously, “Too late.”
Lay was off to the side, in the midst of healing a bad burn on Tao’s wrists. Lay, who was too focused on Tao, didn’t realize that a soldier was close to them, concentrating on attacking him.
Just before he could aim for him using his bow and arrow, a voice called, “LOOK OUT!”
Lay and Tao straightened up immediately, as Xiumin frantically waved his hand, creating a barrier of ice around the two. He let out a sigh of relief when the arrow weakly attempted to chip a portion of the ice, but fell down due to the strength of it.
“Damn!” The angel shouted as he tried to make an escape for it. Xiumin appeared like magic in front of him. He wagged his finger with a pout, “Ah-ah-ah. You can’t escape now.”
The angel yelped as Xiumin laughed, creating a graceful movement with his hand and forcefully pushing the air in front of him. Sharp daggers of ice formed in his hands and pierced the man and his wings. He let out a loud cry of pain.
Before he could fall to the ground, Tao leaped up, his ash-black wings gleaming mysteriously, and he waved his hand, making time freeze.
“Heh.” Tao grinned and leapt in front of the warrior, his foot perfectly pointed at his throat in a kung-fu kick. He waved his hand again, and his foot slammed into the warrior’s neck as gravity pulled him down.
When he was no longer moving, Tao edgily cracked his knuckles, glaring at him, “Think twice before you mess with Huang Zitao.”
In a corner, D.O and Sehun were back to back as they took on around a dozen enemies. D.O stomped his foot on the ground, and it scarily startled to crack and split. Some warriors fell into the cracks. D.O readily made a closing motion with his arms, sealing the cracks shut.
Sehun quickly formed a tornado with his hands as the harsh wind mercilessly twirled the remaining angels into it. In a sharp movement, the tornado hurled into a couple trees, causing the angels to slam into them and quickly become unconscious.
“Yes!” Sehun grinned and hi-fived D.O, but the happiness didn’t last for long.
“Whoa!” He suddenly yelped as he ducked just in time to see a blade sailing for his head.
Two dozen enemies were cornering the two, all with gleaming blades and mystical powers. D.O and Sehun both backed up until they hit each other in the back.
“Now what, hyung?” Sehun bit his lip.
“Fight.” D.O nodded. “For Naeun.”
At once, Sehun’s face turned absolutely expressionless. “For Naeun.”
About five tornadoes and seven earthquakes later, the boys found themselves at a loss. No matter how many angels they fought, new ones just appeared like magic.
Both Sehun and D.O were panting by now. An enemy was about to attack them when two huge trees were uprooted and crashed over the remaining warriors.
A golden-haired boy came flying over to them with his lightly tinted pink wings, “Are you guys okay?!”
“Hyung!” Sehun beamed as D.O grinned, “You saved us back there.”
Luhan happily smiled, “Of course, but this is no time to let down our guard. We have to finish this.” He turned around to re-join the battle.
D.O and Sehun exchanged looks and nodded once before scurrying off.
Chanyeol conjured up orbs of gleaming flames and trapped a few enemies in a circle of fire. A fighter aimed for him behind his back with a couple sharp spears that could kill any human in an instant.
The angel yelled as he threw the spears with all his might. Before Chanyeol could turn around, Kris speedily flew in with his silver wings and effortlessly grabbed each spear before they could hurt him.
Smirking coolly, Kris did a backflip and easily set his feet on the ground, twirling the spears through his fingers.
“Geez, you really need to look after yourself.” The leader shook his head, grinning at the equally tall boy.
Chanyeol let out a lopsided grin, sizing up their enemies that surrounded them. “On the count of three?”
Kris curtly nodded once.
“1… 2… 3…!” The two both stood back to back and unleashed their true power. An outline of a large phoenix on fire spread out behind Chanyeol, while a dragon appeared behind Kris.
At the same time, the two figures combined powers to destroy the enemies.
*We will win. We will fight. We will perservere.*
“It’s the wielder of light!” One fighter shouted as Baekhyun cussed under his breath and flew faster, darting through the trees and bushes.
“B-Baekhyun… I don’t f-feel too g-good…” Naeun started to get nauseous. Everything—the trees, the bushes, the plants—were all blurs of various shades of green now. She was feeling weaker by the second.
Baekhyun anxiously glanced down and attempted to soothe her, “Just close your eyes. Bury your face in my shirt if you have to. Whatever you do, try not to focus on the scenery.” Naeun avoided his eyes, but he softly tilted her chin up to make her met gazes with him. “Hey. Look at me. Everything’s going to be fine, okay?”
Naeun somehow felt comforted by his words; although she knew it wasn’t true. Everything wasn’t fine, and she perfectly understood that, but for some reason, she felt like she had to believe in him… at least, for now. So she nodded and gripped her hands onto his shirt, focusing her gaze on the angel in front of her, or sometimes, closing her eyes.
Baekhyun narrowed his eyes when the enemies started to slowly catch up to him. At the last moment, he stopped and turned around; blasting rays of light at them that somewhat resembled laser beams.
When he thought they were all gone, a voice called out, “DUCK!” On instinct, Baekhyun retreated into one of the shady oak trees behind him. Through the branches, Naeun and Baekhyun watched as massive orbs of fire and tornadoes worked together to paralyze the last few warriors.
When the angels limply fell onto the floor in a comatose state, a loud whoop came from the ground.
“They’re gone!” A familiar voice that sounded like Tao’s cheered.
“Baekhyun hyung! Naeunnie!” Sehun called.
Baekhyun held a frail Naeun in his arms as he called, “Over here!”
The eleven EXO boys emerged from the ground, into or floating in the air near the tree. They had a couple of cuts and bruises, which were being healed quickly by Lay.
Even so, they were all smiling like they had just won the lottery.
Sehun beamed as he kneeled beside Baekhyun, “Naeunnie!”
Baekhyun sensed her discomfort and adjusted her position so that she was lying down on Baekhyun’s lap. She weakly smiled as she saw the sight in front of her.
The crowd of people she had first been so awkward with, the only people in the universe that treated her like a human being, the only people she considered as family, friends and so much more were all smiling at her, without a single care in the world.
Sehun, Luhan, Yixing, Kyungsoo, Jongin, Wufan, Joonmyun, Zitao, Jongdae, Minseok, Chanyeol…
And not to mention Byun Baekhyun.
To say the least, it moved her to tears.
“Oppas…” Naeun couldn’t take it anymore as tears started to well up in her eyes. Soon, they were sliding down her cheeks at a fast rate. *I got my wish. I was able to see them all, one last time.*
“Naeunnie, don’t cry!” Sehun started panicking, “Does it hurt anywhere? Where? Tell me!”
Naeun couldn’t reply. Her body was in too much shock and pain, and she was also touched. It was all too much for her to take in.
Baekhyun slid his warm hand over hers and gripped it tightly, smiling that beautiful smile of his through teary eyes. It was reassuring and comforting, that smile.
*We’ve gone through a lot…* Naeun held his hand close to her heart. *And I’m going to miss you all…*
When Naeun slowly calmed down, she gave the twelve EXO boys the biggest smile she could conjure up.
“Now… I can leave your side without any regrets…” She murmured.
Baekhyun’s eyes widened at those selfless but cruel words. His heart dropped like an anvil.
All he could think was no.
No, no, no.
“Naeun.” He held her hands with both of his, faking a smile. “What are you talking about? You’re such a joker, Song Naeun. Stop lying like that. One of these days, you’re going to startle me so much that I’ll have to reprimand you.” He laughed, but it sounded squeaky and forced. No one else was laughing along. They just stared at her, dumbstruck.
A flicker of heartbreak passed through Naeun’s eyes as she held a trembling hand up to his cheek. “B…Baekhyun…”
“No… No. You’re not quitting on me now, Song Naeun. You can’t leave me. You can’t. You have to stay with me. Come on, look at me. Stay with me, Naeun.” Baekhyun started to panic. His voice was hushed and wavering, as if she would break if he was too loud.
Even if Naeun was to be reborn as an angel after she passed, Baekhyun still didn’t want her to die. It killed him to see Naeun suffering so much, because it hurt to even just look at her.
And if it hurt to just look at her, imagine how much pain that frail little body was going through now.
“Baek…hyun…” She gazed at him with eyes that screamed affection and infinite love. “Look… at the… tree…”
Baekhyun straightened up as he looked up. Sure enough, it was the exact same tree they had been to. The tree where she had first seen the glory and breathtaking beauty of EXO Planet. The place where she experienced her first heartbreak and first memory of happiness… It was the place where they had used to hold each other so closely and intimately, underneath the moonlight and the witness of the stars…
A single memory came back to Baekhyun as he reminisced in it.
A mesmerized angel-like boy and a sickly girl with a sweet smile, talking together while swinging their small legs in the branches of a grand oak tree…
“Do you dream of getting better? I mean, being cured?”
“…Yeah. I do.” A moment of passing silence with nothing but the soft flutter of the breeze. “I don’t want to go back to that hospital. I never want to go back.”
“Because I’m scared of dying.”
“You’re a human. You probably have dreams to fulfill… You’re much more important in making a change to this world than I am…”
Another moment of silence, and then the boy speaks again.
“Tell me… What’s your name?”
“…Naeun. Song Naeun.”
The boy looks pleased, “Naeun-ah, hm? Pretty name..."
A calming, relaxing beam of light, a miracle cure, and a breathtaking sunrise.
“Baek…hyun… Do you… remember…?” Naeun blinked her eyes very slowly, letting the clear teardrops carefully fall from her eyes, tracing down her cheek in invisible streaks.
Baekhyun pressed his lips together in a firm line, his lips quivering. The urge to scream out tried to overtake him.
Naeun’s eyes twinkled as a soft smile spread across her face. Everyone caught their breath as Naeun raised her hand to carefully Baekhyun’s pure white wings once. They tingled and moved a little under her touch.
Naeun found this to be cute. A small sound from the base of came up. Baekhyun thought she was trying to giggle.
“They’re beautiful…” Naeun softened. “Your… wings…”
A knowing smile spread across both of their lips as Naeun noticed something around Baekhyun’s neck. Her lips parted in awe as she touched the black hexagon, smoothing it out with her fingers.
Baekhyun watched Naeun’s every movement, not afraid to let the tears fall. Naeun squinted each time one of his teardrops fell on her cheeks, but she didn’t complain.
“…Baek…” She let in an irregular breath. She knew she was running out of time. She had to hurry and tell him everything she needed to say, but there was so much… Too much, in fact.
“…Baek…hyun.” She murmured it thoughtfully, like a foreign word. Baekhyun didn’t realize that he was holding his own breath before he remembered to breathe again.
“…I l-love…” Her eyebrows furrowed in determination.
“…I lo—ve… Baek…”
The silence was too loud that it broke him.
Luhan put a hand over his mouth with wide eyes, mortified. Most of the boys bowed their head in mourning as Sehun and Tao froze like statues.
Tao reached over and put a hand on Naeun’s cold body. It was like ice.
“Mei…mei…?” Tao asked in disbelief. No answer. Not even a twitch from her hand. Tao let out a horrified scream. His mei-mei… was dead…?
“Naeunnie, you joker.” Everyone watched as Sehun smiled happily at Naeun’s expressionless face. Every hint of pain was gone from it. “Your joking will someday get you in… In trouble—“ Sehun let out a pained wail and buried his face in his hand, holding Naeun’s left hand with the other one.
Baekhyun couldn’t hear anyone. He couldn’t see anyone else. All he saw was Naeun’s lifeless body. All the energy from her seemed to have been out of her. *And you… you didn’t even finish saying my name…*
Baekhyun didn’t scream. He didn’t wail. He didn’t go out to seek for revenge. All he had left were tears. Countless tears that only dripped onto Naeun’s face, only this time, she didn’t squint when they hit her cheeks.
*My beautiful Naeun…* He closed his eyes and pressed his lips to hers one last time. The reality hit hard when Naeun didn’t return the kiss.
When Baekhyun pulled back, Naeun’s white EXO necklace caught his attention. Thoughtfully, he smoothed it with his thumb, remembering.
“You know… I heard something from Suho oppa.” She started off.
Baekhyun sent her a confused look and silently urged her to go on. Naeun softly smiled and pulled out the chain from her neck, letting it glint brightly in the dim moonlight. Baekhyun softly gazed at it.
“I heard… That if you wish upon this necklace, it will come true.” Naeun said quietly, thumb tracing the engravings of the white hexagon.
“I know. I told you that when I first bought it for you, remember?” Baekhyun looked up to the moon, smiling softly. His thumb traced his own EXO necklace discreetly.
“I know. I remember.” Naeun closed her eyes and let the soothing feeling of the wind rustle her hair. She let in a deep breath. “That’s why I’m going to make a wish today.”
Baekhyun bit his lip so hard that the taste of copper and blood made him cringe. “I wonder… what she wished for that day…?” He mused to himself, half-aware that the other boys were watching him.
“I wonder… if the myths behind these necklaces really hold some truth to them…” His voice was loud, but quivering. Baekhyun’s eyes met Naeun’s limp body as he smiled wholeheartedly.
“Naeun-ah… Shall I make a wish? I hope it isn’t too late…” Baekhyun softly touched her forehead, moving the fly-away strands of her hair out of her pale face.
Baekhyun grinned as a fresh new batch of tears welled up.
“I wish…” He closed his eyes as his wings started to cast a brightening glow, “That I can always be together with EXO… and with you, Song Naeun…”
Not another word was said as Baekhyun concentrated hard on his wish.
*Baekhyun…* Chanyeol sorrowfully glanced at him and Naeun as he closed his eyes too. Soon, his creamy white wings started to glow. *For Naeun.*
*Naeunnie…* Sehun closed his eyes shut, praying hard. His white wings with light blue shades emitted a dim light.
Suho and Kris both watched as the others started to close their eyes and pray for the couple. And one by one, each pair of wings started to glow, just like Baekhyun’s.
They both nodded once. *Naeun.* Kris thought as his wings shone brightly with a shimmering tone of red.
*Naeun… Please return to your rightful place…* Suho clenched his jaw tightly as his wings followed suit.
Baekhyun gently smiled as a scene from long ago ran through his head.
“Hey you, young man.”
“Huh? Me?” Baekhyun pointed to himself.
“Yes, you. You’re in luck, you know. We have one last pair of EXO couple necklaces in stock.”
“Couple necklaces…” Baekhyun walked over and glanced at one. It was definitely beautiful, and it gleamed brightly in the sunlight. It was hard to believe that no one picked up this last pair.
*I bet Naeun would like it a lot.* Baekhyun smiled to himself, but then snapped out of it when he realized the vendor ahjumma was grinning widely at him.
“You have a girlfriend, huh?” She said knowingly.
Baekhyun flushed beet red, “U-Uhh, it’s nothing like that.”
“Aww, don’t lie to me. She’s your girlfriend! It’s clearly written all over your face.”
Baekhyun bit his lip and sheepishly scratched the back of his head, “Well… I guess you could call it that…”
The ahjumma beamed at him. “You know, there’s an old saying that goes with those necklaces.”
“Mm-hm. You see, there’s a story behind it. Rumour has it that these necklaces can create miracles and grant wishes.”
“Miracles… and wishes…?”
“Yep,” She nodded, “It’s said that if you and your other half wish for the exact same thing, it’ll come true. Of course, you can’t tell the other person what you wished for, because that’s cheating.”
Baekhyun waved it away, “Eyy, ahjumma! You just want me to buy the necklaces, right? It’s a scam to make some money.”
“Well…” The lady shrugged, “Believe what you want to believe, but I’m just repeating things I’ve heard before.” She glanced at Baekhyun furtively, “So kid? Are you buying or not?”
Baekhyun considered this for a moment before he pulled out his wallet, “How much?”
The ahjumma shook her head with a smile.
“No, kid. You listened to this old woman rambling on about nonsense. As a reward, I’ll give them to you for free.”
Baekhyun snapped out of his daydream and clasped Naeun’s hand tightly.
Unknown to him, his black necklace started to emit a strange glow, along with Naeun’s white necklace. All of a sudden, a blinding, bleach-white light enwrapped them, sending an indescribable sensation swirling in their bodies like warm honey, oozing around in their insides.
Song Naeun, your life will always be more important than mine.
