Hypnosis (feat. Outsider) - K.Will
One cloudy afternoon, more than half of the EXO boys were going out to shop for food, while the others were going to play a round of soccer outside.
D.O, Kris, Lay, Suho, Baekhyun, Tao, Kai, and Luhan were on shopping duty, while Chanyeol, Chen, Sehun and Xiumin would play soccer.
Naeun had volunteered to stay home, since she didn’t feel too well. Knowing that Baekhyun and the others would be worried about her, she didn’t tell, but instead told them that she was too tired to go out.
“Are you sure you’re gonna be alright here alone, Naeun?” Baekhyun fretfully curled her hair behind her ear. He must’ve noticed how her smiles weren’t as bright these days, and the colour from her face was slowly draining out.
“I’m alright. I’ll be okay.” Naeun assured, capturing his hand in hers and squeezing it comfortingly, “You just go out with the other oppas and be sure to buy all the stuff we need, okay? You have the list, right?”
Baekhyun dug through his hoodie’s pocket and pulled out a small folded piece of paper, “Got it.” Still, he looked unsure by her faltering grin.
Suho caught his wary gaze and furrowed his eyebrows, “Maybe someone should stay back with Naeun.” Baekhyun eagerly raised up his hand, but Naeun shook her head.
“I told you, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” She let out a soft smile and straightened out Baekhyun’s jacket, “I’ll be fine, so go and help out D.O oppa, okay? To be honest,” Naeun lowered her voice, “You’re the best cook next to him. Maybe even better than Kris.”
“Naeun!” Kris looked appalled. Naeun and Tao chortled.
Baekhyun had no choice but to gently chuckle at that, “You sure you’ll be alright?” He searched her eyes one more time.
“Oh, come on, hyung. Naeun will be fine.” Kai waved it off dismissively, wanting to hurry up and get the shopping over with. “Plus, the others won’t be too far from the house.”
“Yeah, one of us will come to check up on Naeun every now and then.” Chen nodded. Xiumin put his thumb up, “She’ll be okay.”
Luhan studied Baekhyun’s hesitant expression and glanced at the boys. “Make sure that you check up on her before every round.” He bargained.
The four boys agreed, and Naeun sighed with a hopeless smile, “Come on you guys, I’m not a baby that needs to be cared for every single second!”
“Yes you are,” Kris mused, “In Baekhyun’s eyes, you’re still a baby.”
Naeun shot a look at him and he backed off, hands up in defense playfully.
“Alright, we’ll go.” Baekhyun ended up agreeing. Naeun proudly beamed. *That’s my boyfriend.* She rubbed his shoulder comfortingly before the shopping team walked out the door and left for town.
“Seriously, I don’t know what you see in that guy. He’s paranoid about you all the time.” Xiumin shook his head. Sehun jabbed his stomach with his elbow, “Hyung! That’s mean!”
Naeun giggled, “I think it’s cute to see him so worried about me, but to be honest,” She motioned them closer, “I think he goes a little bit overboard sometimes.”
“A little bit overboard?” Xiumin raised an eyebrow.
“Sometimes?” Chen added.
Naeun laughed it off. “I thought Baekhyun oppa was your friend!”
“He is, but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Baek be so overprotective over anyone or anything, and I’ve been his friend the longest.” Chanyeol explained.
“You’re the first.” Sehun agreed, plastering a bright smile on his face. Naeun’s eyes softened as her heart quivered, “Is that so…”
Chen looked at the time, “Shouldn’t we go outside now? We’ll come to check up on you at the start of the next round, okay, Naeun?”
Sehun instantly snapped out of it and flung his hands around her, “Yeah, Naeunnie! We’ll take turns, okay? Be safe!”
Naeun gave Sehun a light pat and smiled to the others, “You really don’t have to. I’ve learned to stay by myself for a while now on Earth.” She rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, but we already made a promise with Luhan hyung.” Chanyeol grimaced.
“Curse him and his eternal baby face that can persuade everyone to do things for him!” Xiumin shook his fist comically. Everyone burst out laughing.
Chen shook his head, “Minseok hyung, you pabo.” He waved everyone out, “We’ll see you a bit later then, Naeun!”
“Have a good time!” She called out and waved when they disappeared into the woods. As soon as they were gone, Naeun’s smile dropped and she felt the sore pains on her arm flame up again.
She hurried back inside the house and slowly pulled up her long sleeves, revealing dark purple bruises. They dotted her arm in evident patches.
Naeun lightly traced over them with her fingertips, but winced when they stung even under the lightest of pressure. She bit her lip and sat down on a nearby stool, trying to ignore the pain and convince herself that she was completely fine.
One hour, two hours, half an hour more…
Baekhyun and the others had been gone for a while now, since D.O had wanted to go to various different variety stores. Tao had complained about walking, Kris reprimanded him, Suho had given in to everything D.O had asked of him, and Kai mainly walked off, doing his own thing. Lay and Luhan were mainly the ones keeping the others on track, and Baekhyun…
…Well, Baekhyun was just being Baekhyun.
Calm, reliable, helpful and gentle.
“Thank you for your patronage! Have a nice evening!” The cashier called as the eight EXO members exited the last grocery store they’d see for a while.
Everyone held bags filled with food that could feed more than a dozen. They all had at least four bags in each of their hands.
“My feet hurt!” Tao stopped in his tracks and stomped childishly, making the rest of the boys look back at him. Kris sighed and glared at the maknae, “Huang Zitao, what did I say before?”
“…That I have to man up and deal with it.” Tao grudgingly grumbled.
“Exactly. Now walk.” Kris ordered, putting his usual stoic expression on. Tao slowly trailed behind them, muttering curse words under his breath. Baekhyun caught one he said in Korean, something along the lines of ‘stupid duizhang’ and ‘maknaes have to do everything’.
Suho chuckled at the angry Tao and waved him over, “Come, Tao. I’ll take a bag off of your hands.”
Tao stopped in the middle of his thoughts and brightly beamed, “Really, leader?!” He said in thick Korean. Suho nodded sweetly, probably thinking that Tao was too precious and Kris was treating him too harshly.
Tao sighed in content and walked alongside EXO-K’s leader Suho after he took one of Tao’s bags. Kris saw this and shook his head, “Joonmyun, you spoil the younger ones too much. They must learn discipline. Not getting their way all the time builds character.”
“Kris, you shouldn’t treat the maknaes so roughly. They’ll turn out to become like you.” D.O countered, before meek Suho could back down.
Kai let out an appreciative, “Oooh!”
Kris raised an eyebrow, “Are you saying that I’m rough?”
“To be honest, you are, duizhang.” Lay quietly cut in as Luhan burst out laughing, not able to contain it.
Tao hugged Suho’s arm, “Maybe I’ll trade spots with Sehun and become EXO-K’s maknae instead, gege~” He stuck his tongue out at Kris, “Merong!”
“Whatever, Tao.” Kris knew that Tao was obviously joking, so he just brushed it off. Tao made a face at his elder and everyone chuckled.
Baekhyun tilted his head to one side as his mind wandered off to the thought of his girlfriend, “I wonder if she’s okay…”
“Who, Naeun?” Kai questioned with a smirk. “You’re so in love.”
“I know.” Baekhyun said absentmindedly, not even bothering to deny it. “It’s gotten dark. Yeol and the others had better not have forgotten to check up on her!”
“Relax, Baekhyun. Did you forget that Luhan was the one that made them promise to watch over her?” D.O asked with a lopsided grin.
“Oh.” Baekhyun seemed to be more relieved, “That’s right.”
Luhan blinked confusedly, “Me?” He pointed to himself. “Why me?”
“Your kindness, of course.” Suho slowly cut in, “No one can ever break off a promise with you, Luhan hyung. You’re so sincere that nobody would want to disappoint you.”
Luhan was startled, “Really?” Everyone seemed to mutually agree.
“Lucky you. Now you can always get your way.” Kris said sarcastically. “But I already do.” Luhan smiled slyly, making everyone chuckle again.
At this point, they were walking through the middle of the dark forest, with no other strangers from town there. It was at that moment when Baekhyun’s back suddenly turned fuzzy. He halted at once and couldn’t move.
Lay glanced over his shoulder after realizing that he wasn’t walking beside him, “Baekhy—Oh!” His eyes were wide.
“What’s the matter?” Tao called, stopping to see too. The rest turned back to the now glowing Baekhyun.
“Baekhyun!” Suho snapped out of it, dropping the bags and running up to him. That was it. It was at that point when the glow emitted over to Kai, Suho, and D.O, the other EXO-K members that were there with them.
“W…What’s happening?” Baekhyun managed to stutter out. Luhan’s gaze was soft, “Baekhyun… your… your…”
“My what?” Baekhyun was suddenly wrapped in a comforting, warm light, and his eyes closed. He struggled to open them, but he couldn’t. His mind was panicking. What in the world was happening?!
When the vibe passed, Baekhyun broke out of the light. The light slowly began to fade, and he was able to open his eyes again, refocusing his vision.
He snapped out of it as he managed to stand, “What—“ He gasped immediately when he saw Suho, Kai and D.O, all with pure white angel wings on their back.
“They’re… back…?” Baekhyun croaked. He glanced over his shoulder to see his very own white wings, carefully feathered on. His was the only one that strangely continued to cast a dim, unnoticeable glow. The outline of his was silver.
*My wings. Our wings. They’re back.*
Kris was the first one to snap out of it.
“Welcome back, guys.” He allowed his own wings to protrude out, the other EXO-M members following him.
The angel wings were finally restored to their original owners, and although he was the most stunned, Baekhyun couldn’t wait to tell Naeun.
“Naeun!” was the first thing Baekhyun said when he entered the house. Their wings were tucked away for now, making them appear like normal.
Baekhyun set the groceries on the counter as he excitedly entered the living room, “Naeun!”
No answer. There was no sign of Naeun anywhere.
Baekhyun’s smile disappeared as quickly as it came.
“Where is she?” Kai asked confusedly. “The others should’ve came back from playing outside by now.” Lay and Luhan exchanged worried but puzzled glances.
“MEI-MEI!” Tao shouted as loud as he could.
Instantly, a blurry figure dashed down the steps, and into Luhan’s arms. Luhan almost got knocked back, but what startled him were the white wings on the person’s back.
Sehun lifted his head up, and everyone became stunned. His face was pale with worry, and he didn’t look like he was in a good condition at all. Sloppy tears were pouring down his face at a fast speed, not bothering to stop.
“Sehun-ah…” Luhan couldn’t comprehend what was going on. Actually… no one could.
Kai didn’t know what was going on, but grinned widely anyway, “Sehun! We finally got our wings back!”
Sehun didn’t speak, but walked towards Baekhyun in a pathetic state. Kai’s grin died out instantly.
“Oh Sehun, tell us what’s wrong right now.” Kris said in a firm tone.
“…B-Baekhyun hyung… N-Naeun… She…” His voice cracked as he caved in and buried his face in his hands, sobbing hard. “S-She—collapsed…”
That was all Baekhyun needed to know before he dashed upstairs.
