A Dreamer - IU
A loud banging came from the front door of EXO’s house, scaring Luhan, who was pleasantly passing by.
Kris, who was coming downstairs, blinked at Luhan. “Who is it?” He warily called out.
“It’s me! Who else could it be?!” Baekhyun’s urgent voice sounded, “Hurry up and open the door!”
Luhan shared a confused look with Kris and made a twisting motion with his hand, making the door immediately unlock and open. He was shocked to see a limp and unconscious Naeun, and a breathless Baekhyun—both soaking wet from head to toe.
Kris furrowed his eyebrows in worry as Luhan swiftly closed the door behind the two, “What the hell is going on? Why is she unconscious?”
“Who’s unconscious?” Both Kai and Xiumin came down the stairs. Their eyes widened in horror at the sickly sight of her, “Naeun!”
“Mei-mei!” Tao shouted and ran towards Baekhyun. Sehun and Chanyeol gawked as the rest of EXO piled in.
“What happened?! Why is she like this?!” Sehun snapped out of it and narrowed his eyes at Baekhyun. “You didn’t do this on purpose, did you?”
“Of course not! She fainted on her own!” Baekhyun snapped back, offended that the maknae could come to such a conclusion. A quiet second passed as Sehun’s facial expressions slowly softened. He looked almost apologetic, “…Sorry, hyung.”
Baekhyun glanced at him and let out a sigh. “I just need her to be safe before I calm down. That’s all.” He let out his own awkward apology. Sehun, of course, understood, and nodded.
Without saying anymore, Baekhyun walked straight inside with his shoes still on, making muddy footprints on the floor. D.O quietly winced as Suho gave him a look but patted his shoulder.
“Chanyeol and Lay, follow me.”
“Got it.” Chanyeol nodded, as if he was completely over the punches that he ruthlessly gave to Baekhyun just half an hour ago. Lay silently trailed behind. Although Baekhyun didn’t tell them to, the rest of the boys tagged along too, in worry for their friend.
Baekhyun hurriedly burst into Naeun’s room and carefully set her on the bed. She was trembling in her sleep, but Baekhyun carefully pulled up the blanket to her in a failed attempt to keep her warm. He didn’t know what to do.
D.O swiftly disappeared out the door to go get something.
“Should we… take off her clothes? She’s going to become even more sick if we keep it on—“ Chen quietly began to suggest, but Baekhyun turned around and let out a firm no.
“Neither you nor I am going to take her clothes off.” Baekhyun shook his head. The thought angered him. “I’ll try to dry her using my power.” He murmured aloud and sat himself down on the side of her bed, sandwiching Naeun’s cold hand in both of his.
Very calmly, he closed his eyes and exerted force through his mind. It seemed like he was meditating. All of EXO held their breaths.
A bright, warm beam of light shot up from Baekhyun’s hand to Naeun’s, and it enveloped her whole body. In no time, she was completely dry. Baekhyun pinched the sleeve of her polo shirt just to make sure. He seemed relieved. *Finally. It pays off to actually have the power of the sun.*
Naeun had also seemed to have stopped shaking from the cold. Suho proudly smiled and patted Baekhyun’s back, “Well done.” Baekhyun gave Suho a faint smile, but he couldn’t help but still be worried for Naeun.
At that moment, D.O re-entered the room, holding a thermometer in his hands. He scratched his head, “I figured we’d need this someday, for Naeun, so I bought it at town just in case. She’s the only one that’s going to be able to use it, anyways.”
Baekhyun gratefully accepted it, “Thanks, Kyungsoo hyung.” D.O nodded. Kai leaned his arm on D.O’s shoulder, “Then I guess that’s for Naeun’s personal use only… since angels can’t get sick and all.”
After taking her temperature, Baekhyun announced that all Naeun had was a mere fever. She had probably exhausted her body by stress, and of course, running out in the rain on such a cold day like today.
The EXO boys loosened their tense bodies and eventually became relieved that it wasn’t something worse. Baekhyun, however, still wasn’t satisfied. He turned to Lay, “Isn’t there anything you can do, Lay? Anything?”
Lay gazed at Naeun’s pale face and contemplated that. “I can probably take a small bit of her pain away and heal these scrapes—” He trailed off as he examined the cuts she received when she fell in front of the tree, “—but other than that, I can’t do anything. Healing sicknesses are not my forte. I’m sorry, Baek.” He gave him a solemn look.
Baekhyun gave him a small, reassuring smile, “It’s alright, but please lend us your power this time, if you can.” Lay nodded and went straight to work, healing all that he could.
Lay closed his eyes for a split second before setting down instructions. “Naeun’s not that sick yet. She can make a speedy recovery if she’s given the right treatment. Chanyeol, can you create a fire? A small flame that will keep Naeun warm but not burn down the house would be most preferable, please.”
Chanyeol rolled his eyes, “Ha, ha. Very funny, Lay.” But he cupped a hand in the air and a small but cozy of flame ignited, nestling comfortably in mid-air just above Naeun’s side-table drawer.
“Will that do?” He questioned in his deep voice.
“Mm.” Lay nodded, “Xie-xie.” Chanyeol understood that meant “thank you” from his limited Chinese vocabulary. He gave him a small, meek grin.
“Suho-ge, could you prepare a bowl of ice-cold water and a small towel for her forehead? The faster, the better.” Lay murmured.
“On it.” Suho did a funny salute as he left with D.O and Tao in tow.
As Lay continued giving out instructions, Baekhyun silently gazed at Naeun with love and affection. His left hand had a firm grip on hers, and his right was brushing wisps of her dark brown hair away from her porcelain face.
Sehun silently watched the intimate gesture, wanting to look away. A sudden, warm hand touched him as he snapped out of his daze and peered over his shoulder. Luhan was giving him a small, kind smile with sad eyes. It was something along the lines of sympathy and proudness.
*I’m proud of you, Oh Sehun.* Luhan beamed at him. Sehun’s gaze grew gentle as he softly smiled back, slinging a shoulder over his favourite hyung’s shoulders and calling out, “Alright hyungs! Naeun’s fine, so we should leave these two lovebirds alone.”
Baekhyun perked up and blinked at Sehun, who gave him a hint of a smile. Inside, Sehun was just trying hard not to cry, but was glad that Naeun would be fully protected by his reliable hyung. All the EXO members took one last glance at Naeun before they filed out of the door.
*Thanks, Sehun-ah.* Baekhyun closed his eyes and silently thought. *Our maknae… has finally matured, huh?* He pressed a small kiss to Naeun’s forehead, watching as Lay tried his best to heal the girl he loved.
Naeun stirred in her sleep and slowly regained consciousness as she peeked one of her eyes open very subtly.
She was lying on her bed, she knew that for certain. Something warm beside her was flickering a ghostly, vibrant glow on Baekhyun’s face, who was sitting in front of her.
But that wasn’t what surprised her. Baekhyun was running his fingers through Naeun’s long, dark hair, and lightly dabbing her face with a cold towel. The combination of both the different sensations made Naeun shiver in a good way.
Naeun wasn’t completely awake yet, no. She was still half-asleep, but now she knew for sure that Baekhyun was the angel that she had imagined in her mind so many times. He was the owner of the feather that Naeun cherished so much. He was the person she was looking for, and the person she had finally found.
A lot had happened today between the two, but sleepy Naeun just couldn’t process that all right now. All she thought about was the fact that he was so real, unlike the imaginary, anonymously-faced Baekhyun that she had fantasized about so many times before.
The boy gazed at her with soft eyes before sliding off the chair. Very slowly, he walked over to her bedside while sitting down. Naeun closed her eyes as he adjusted her blanket and softly ran his long fingers into her hair.
It felt so real. His light touch seemed like he was actually there with her, but she knew he wasn’t.
She peeked her eyes open to the best of her ability, only being able to spot his charming smile and pouty lips. The same from that day.
“Please…” Naeun mumbled, “Even though you’re not really here… Please stay with me until the night ends…”
The boy just smiled again and pressed his lips to her forehead, all the while stroking her long hair. In no time, Naeun fell into a deep sleep, with the blurry, imaginary figure of Baekhyun gone from her side.
This Baekhyun would never leave her side. Naeun would make sure of that.
Baekhyun soon decided to put away the towel for now, since her fever had gone down quite a bit. Lay’s advice was spot on. *I have to remind myself to thank him again.* He made a mental note and turned to gaze at Naeun’s sleeping face when he noticed a pair of half-lidden, chocolate brown eyes staring into his.
“Naeun…!” Baekhyun gaped, glad that she was awake. “Are you feeling better?!”
The girl just let out a smile as tears started to well up in her eyes for the last time that night. Happy tears. She didn’t bother to wipe them away, though. This moment was too precious for her to ruin it.
“…Naeun-ah.” His expression softened.
*Better yet, this Baekhyun talks, too.* Naeun didn’t know why she had such a comforted feeling in her chest. She knew she was just sleep-deprived and was being weird, but she couldn’t help but feel that way. Maybe she was just delirious.
Or maybe, she was just intoxicated with this angel of the sun.
Naeun bit her lip to stop the cries from coming out. Slowly, she took a hold of Baekhyun’s free hand and held it to her cheek, immediately beaming at the familiar sensation. *It’s just like how I imagined it to be. It’s all that, and more.* She let in a breath as Baekhyun slowly used his thumb to wipe away her tears.
Baekhyun had finally settled it. He was completely and wholly devoted to Song Naeun, and that was final.
“Shh… It’s okay. Everything’s okay. I’m here. Your Baekhyun is here.” He leaned in and pressed his lips onto her forehead.
Just like Naeun described it, this moment was all that, and more.
Baekhyun pulled away from her and gave her a heart-stopping smile. She smiled through her tears and let out a half-sob/laugh. Baekhyun chuckled at her cuteness.
Naeun’s eyelids started to get droopy, as her fatigue betrayed her and soon lulled her to a sound sleep.
“Byun… Baekhyun.” She drawled tiredly, still refusing to let his hand go.
Baekhyun looked amused by this, “Hm?”
“…Be…mine...” And with that, she fell asleep with a hint of a smile on her face.
Baekhyun blinked with his wide, shocked eyes and gawked at her sleeping figure.
“Yah, Song Naeun, that’s unfair. You can’t just steal a guy’s heart and then go to sleep peacefully!” He playfully murmured, knowing all too well that she couldn’t hear him.
After deciding that he’d spend the night here, Baekhyun lied down next to Naeun’s figure and cuddled beside her, under the blanket sheets.
“Pabo.” He smiled, his head resting on his palm, “I was already yours to begin with.”
So in the end, I decided that I would just repost whatever chapters were deleted! The story is not on hiatus anymore! :)
I will try to update soon, but I won't make any promises. The story is close to being over but we still have a good number of chapters left. ;)
I lost most of my story comments and wall posts! It's saddening, but I can't do anything about it. Hopefully AFF will restore the data. If not, then I don't know. D:
Thanks for continuing to support my work and myself! ^^
