“Hello?” her voice was nervous. She could have sworn her heart beat was faster than when she had her first piano recital.

"Hello? Who is calling?" a voice of a young boy greeted her – definitely not who she was expecting to pick up.

"Who is THIS?" she threw the question back.

"I'm Lee Jiwoon. I'm 4 years old." His speech was slow and sounded as if it was rehearsed.

She wondered if she got the wrong number. She asked,"Lee Jiwoon, do you know someone named Chaerin?"

"Omma? Omma is sleeping." the little boy said in response. 

Her forehead crumpled in confusion as she carefully asked, "Omma? Are you her son?"

"Mm-hm! I'm omma's son!" he proudly said.

Her eyes widened, “Of course! You're my little brother! I'm Kwon Chaeyoung. I’m your older sister!” she exclaimed excitedly.

“I have an older sister?” the toddler’s voice went high pitched out of disbelief.

“Yeah. Me! I just told you.”

“But I thought I’m only Chaerin-omma’s baby…” his voice cracked. 

“No. She has another baby too. How is my mommy?” she asked.

“YOUR mommy? She’s my mommy. I don’t have a sister! I’m only omma’s baby…”

“Fine. You’re omma’s only baby. I was planning to share our appa with you but since you’re a bit selfish, then I’m appa’s only baby” she bitterly said.

"Our appa? I have an appa? A real appa? Not fake appa?"

"Yes you have a real appa! What do you mean fake appa?"

"They said Seunghyun-appa is not my real appa."

"Who's Seunghyun? Omma has a husband?"

"Not husband...Omma's boyfend."

"You mean boyfriend? Omma has a boyfriend?"

"Mm-hm! Seunghyun-appa."

She suddenly got worried upon hearing her little brother’s words. She thought she couldn’t let her omma be with someone else, "Okay Jiwoon. Listen to Chaeyoung-noona okay? Jiyong-appa is your real appa. Not Seunghyun. So don’t call him appa. And I'm your sister. We have the same dad named Kwon Jiyong. You are Kwon Jiwoon"

"No! I'm Lee Jiwoon! You're weird and you're confusing me. And...and...and...Seunghyun-appa said he will be my real appa soon. When he and omma married." 

“They're getting married?!" 

"I don't know! I don’t even know what is married.”

"It’s bad Jiwoon! Don’t let omma get married. Don't let them get married! Omma belongs to Jiyong-appa! We got to get them back together! You understand? You prefer real appa over fake appa right?"

"But Seunghyun-appa buys me toys..." he hesitated.

"Jiyong-appa can buy you anything! Not only toys!"

He gasped, "Really? Even a puppy?"

"Yes! Even a puppy! Even TWO puppies. So you're on real appa's side?"

It took a while before he answered, "...If he buys me a puppy."

"He will! So don’t let Seunghyun get married to Chaerin-omma okay? I told you it’s BAD.”

“Why is it bad?”

She didn’t really know either. She just knew they want her parents back together and so she just said, “Let’s just say…if Seunghyun marries omma, you will get just toys. If Jiyong-appa marries omma, you get a puppy and we will be together. We can play together! You want to play with me, right?”

“Of course I want to play with noona. I like you already"

"Good! I think Jiyong-appa still loves Chaerin-omma but he's just being a coward. So let's make them meet! If they meet again, probably, they will love each other again! Then they’ll get married again."

"Okay. I'll tell omma!"

"NO! DON'T!"

"W-why are you yelling?" his voice shook in terror.

"Omo. I'm sorry Jiwoon-ah. But don't tell her. We need to plan this carefully first. This is a surprise."

"A...surprise? I love surprises!"

"Really? That’s great! If you want to surprise omma, hush okay?"

"Okay okay. I will hush" he whispered.

"Promise?"

"Promise!"

"Cross your heart!"

"Okay!"

"Did you cross your heart yet?"

“Mm-hm! But wait. Why is Jiyong-appa and Chaerin-omma not together if Jiyong-appa is the real appa? And why are you not living with us if you’re my sister?"

“You have so many questions! We used to live together. Jiyong-appa and Chaerin-omma used to be married but they got separated when I was three and you were still a tiny little baby. They decided Jiyong-appa will take me and Chaerin-omma will take you”

“Did they fight?”

“I'm not really sure what happened. I was so little back then I couldn't remember a lot. But I clearly remember I have a little brother: YOU! I want to see you, Jiwoon."

“I want to see you too. I want to see real appa too.”

"If you want to see appa too, I can take him to see you. But you have to take omma with you too. I want to see her. So do you want them to meet?"

"Yeah!"

"You want them back together?"

"Yeaaaah!"

"You want us to be a family?"

"Yeaaaaaah!"
