Chapter 5

I sat down on my bed figuring out what I should do. ‘Grrrrrrrrrr’ My stomach grumbled. “Aish, I guess I AM hungry.” I grabbed my laptop to look up dance studios that are near this house. -Sigh-, the closest studio is 20 minutes away and by bus would be at least 40 minutes. I put my laptop to the side of my bed and laid there looking up at the decoration. The fabrics, the lights and the lanterns were just perfect. I stared at them in awe. ‘This room is … mine.’ I thought. ‘I should feel super lucky but why don’t I?’

*Knock knock*

I looked at the door. “Avee? Can I come in?” A familiar voice spoke.

“Sure.” I called out.

The door slightly opened and a head popped in. “Hey, are you hungry?” Donghae asked sweetly.

“No- ‘Grrrrrr’ Uh, kinda” I let out a soft nervous laugh.

He chuckled. “Haha, come on, food is ready.” He smiled and opened the door all the way and walked in.

“It’s ok I’m not tha- ‘Grrrrr’ … never mind.” I gave up and got up. ‘Stupid stomach’ I thought.

He chuckled to himself. I walked out before he did and he soon caught up.

“So you like to dance?” He asked.

“How di- … you looked at my laptop didn’t you.” I glared at him.

“Well uh…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “It was wide open and I was curious and-”

“It’s cool. Relax.” I interrupted. “And yes, I love to dance.”

“O-oh, COOL. Me too! How long have you been dancing?” He asked trying to hold up a conversation.

“Since I was 5.” I meekly replied remembering my mama and daddy who introduced me to dancing.

“Wow that's pretty long. You should dance with me and Eunhyuk, we dance practically everyday.” He chirped.

“Maybe” I bluntly replied.

“Oh, ok then.” He looked down.

We both got to the kitchen and I was greeted warmly by everyone but Heechul. I just bowed in response.

“No need to be formal, sit sit! EAT!” Ryeowook happily spoke.

I nodded and sat down. The seating was:

Yesung/ Shindong/ Heechul/ Ryeowook/ Sungmin/

Siwon/ Eunhyuk/ Me/ Donghae/ Kyuhyun/ Leeteuk/

Each of us had a bowl of rice with chopsticks and the main courses were in the middle; Kimchi, chicken, Korean BBQ, and ramen. ‘Wow, Ryeowook is good.’ I thought to myself.

“Alright! DIG IN!” Shingdong yelled.

They all began to destroy the food. I ate some rice and watched them attack. It was pretty amusing. They were eating like they have never eaten before. I felt my bowl get a little heavier and looked down at it. There was a piece of chicken and Korean BBQ. Donghae smiled “Before they eat it all.” and continued eating. I cracked a little grin and continued to eat.

“I thought you said you weren’t hungry.”

I looked up at an annoyed Heechul. Ryeowook nudged him to be quiet. I ignored him and continued to eat.

He raised an eyebrow. “So your way of quitting the one word replies is to not reply at all?”

“Hyung, stop.” Siwon interrupted.

“What’s your problem?” I spoke with an irritated tone.

Heechul put his bowl and chopsticks down. “What’s my problem?” Heechul scoffs. “What’s YOUR problem?”

“HEECHUL, THAT’S ENOUGH!” Leeteuk yelled.

I slammed my chopsticks down. Everyone stopped and jumped at the sudden bang. I stood up, glared at Heechul and walked to my room. I barged into my room and slammed the door. I wanted to punch something but held back. Instead, I grabbed a pillow and screamed my lungs into it until I had absolutely no air left in my lungs. I took a deep breath and lay on my bed. ‘Dude, what the hell is his problem?’

*Knock knock*

I didn’t respond.

“Avee?”

I sighed. ‘Donghae … my Godfather.’ I thought.

“Hey, I’m coming in.” and the door slowly opened. “Are you ok?”

“Yeah.” I coldly replied.

“I’m sorry about Heechul… he’s just tired and cranky. He’s also getting used to having a new housemate… well, we all are. Just bear with us ok?”

I stayed quiet.

He sighed and sat on the corner of my bed. “Do …” He stopped and fiddled with his fingers. “Do you ..”

I finally looked at him. “Do I ..?” Pushing him to finish his question.

He sighed again. “… Do you not like me as your Appa?” He nervously asked and looked down.

My heart fell, making me feel guilty. I was watching his expression and he looked … hurt. ‘Why? He barely knows me. I basically barged into his perfect life for him to take care of me.’ I sat up. “It’s not that I don’t like you as my Appa… It’s … well..” I scratched the back of my neck. “I just don’t feel like I deserve to be here. I feel …. Burdensome.” I looked away and then down.

I felt a hand under my chin and lifted my head a little. Donghae looked at me with serious eyes. “Don’t you ever feel that way.. I am now your Appa and I will take care of you no matter what. I sincerely care about you Avee. You are my best friend’s daughter; who is now mine. I am truly honored to be your Appa. Please accept me.”

His touch made me feel warm inside and his words made me relax. I looked at him and grinned. I took his hand from my chin and held it. “Thank you … Appa.”

He looked shocked. “Y-you just called me .. Appa.” I smiled in response. He then processed what I said and smiled from ear to ear. “Say it again!”

“Nope.”

“AWW C’MON!”

I giggled at how childish he can be. “Fine … Hi Appa.”

He got all fidgety like a little kid and laughs. He finally cooled down and looked at me a littl concerned “Are you still hungry? You didn’t get to finish your food.”

“Mmm no … well I don’t think so.” I touched my stomach. “Nope, I’m ok.”

Donghae chuckled and got up. “Ok, well I’m going to finish eating my dinner. Don't hesitate to find me if you need me, Ok?”

“De … Appa.” I said quietly.

He smiled and left the room.

“It’s going to be interesting living here.”
