Today is Sunday.
Sundays are actually quite useless. They’re just days where people pretend not to have responsibilities, while in reality it’s all an illusion to make them forget that Monday everything will begin again, repeating itself over and over…
Like a broken record.
At least, that’s what you keep telling yourself in order to explain why you spend your Sundays spread out on the couch, watching TV. You don’t even bother to think that the actual reason is that you don’t have anybody to spend your Sundays with…
However today is a special Sunday.
Well, let’s not call it “special”… let’s call it “different”.
Today you have to meet Chaerin to decide the flower arrangements for the wedding.
Yeah, the wedding. The one you try with all your might to forget about, even though every little thing keeps reminding you that you’re one step closer to being unhappy for the rest of your life.
And, of course, it’s completely your fault.
The drive to her house takes about fifteen minutes. You ring the doorbell, seriously hoping that no one will open so you can just go back to your idiotic sitcoms and boring documentaries.
No. Sorry Jiyong, that’s not in the script.
Chaerin appears, all flowery and pink in her new Valentino dress. You kiss her, just a quick kiss, nothing special. She grabs her bag and begins to tell you about her week as you walk towards the car.
“I am so tired! Minzy wanted me to go shopping with her yesterday, and why should I say no…”
Blah, blah, blah. Who cares? You resist the urge to shove her in the car, buy some random flowers and get this over with as soon as possible.
You wonder what Seungri is doing. Maybe he’s with his new girlfriend. What was her name? Hyon-a, Hyug-a… Hyu-sa! No, that’s not it… Oh, right, it’s Hyun-ah.
“Ji, are you listening to me?!”
“Huh? Yeah, sure.”
“As I was saying, there’s this new jewellery shop near..:”
You really need to stop spacing out like that; people will begin to think you’re crazy… Oops. Doing it again.
Chaerin does practically all the choosing, you just came along because you had to. The whole thing only takes about an hour, and after driving her back home you decide to visit your parent’s house. There’s actually no reason to, but hey, it’s not like you’ve got anything else to do.
“Jiyong, we’re so glad you came!”
Your parents ask you the same questions every time you visit. How’s work? How’s Chaerin? When is the wedding?
And you answer everything, just to make them happy. Little do they know that every answer is a lie. Every smile is fake.
“You look so happy Jiyong.”
Happy? You can’t even remember the last time you felt something even near to happiness. They don’t even bother to ask if you really are.
Your parents have never really cared… just as long as you came home with good grades and always fulfilled their expectations, you could have just as well stopped eating and sleeping and they wouldn’t have noticed it.
In the end, that’s the only thing you really wanted to achieve. For them to notice.
You’ve been trying for years, but they never do. You’re a good son because you have a good job. You’re a good man because you chose a good woman.
But to them you’re not Kwon Jiyong. You’re just a good person. They would be scared if they met the real Kwon Jiyong…
And when you leave, they always say the same thing…
“We’re proud of you, young man.”
Maybe you should just end this.
A/N: It's going to get more interesting from now on, I promise XD
