Beeeep. Beeeep. The phone brought the caller to voice mail.
“Hello. This is Principal Song; I’m calling on behalf of SM High School of Performing Arts. Mister Kim, if you are listening, I am informing you that your child, Kim Kibum, is not at school. This is the twenty-second time this school year, which we are only a few months into. It is only the beginning of NOVEMBER. If this happens again, he may be expelled. Thank you for your time.”
The caller hung up. Kim Kibum sighed, long and dragged out. He sprawled lengthwise on his authentic leather couch, staring up to the white ceiling of his bedroom.
“I’m bored,” he said aloud to himself. Then he smirked. “Like that’s a surprise.”
Suddenly, hearing his bedroom door open, he snapped upright.
“Maid! Y’ wanna get fired or-” He noticed who it was. “Oh. Hey, Onew-hyung.” He laid back down. “You’re skipping too…?”
Onew slid onto the side of the couch, near Kibum’s head. “No, today’s my day off in my school. Some development program for kids with grades below average.”
“Hm.” Of course, Onew was way above average, in many ways. “So, you were so bored that you decided you needed someone to wallow in boredom with, I’m guessing.”
Onew smiled. Mmm, he has such a beautiful smile. He definitely got it from Mom. Too bad I didn’t. “No, I was just worried that my little dongsaeng might be losing his sanity after hearing him speak aloud to himself.”
Kibum laughed his first laugh of the day and then grabbed a brown felt pillow from his couch and tossed it at Onew. Reacting quickly, Onew batted the pillow away.
He laughed. “Kibum’s happiness is always displayed in violence!”
Grinning and feeling that Onew’s presence had taken the dreariness of his room away, he sat up, allowing Onew to sit next to him; fully on the sofa. He poked Onew’s shoulder playfully, then leaned on his shoulder. Onew smiled widely.
“Ahh, you’re such a social creature. I really want to know why you don’t have any frien-”
“I could if I wanted friends. But they’re not exactly on my shopping list; I don’t need or want friends when I’ve got you.” Kibum punched Onew’s arm lightly.
Onew pursed his lips and tilted his head at Kibum. “Really? I don‘t think so. Friends aren‘t just another item you can place on a shopping list and purchase.”
Kibum rolled his eyes. “Duh! Whatever I put on my shopping list is something I want, and ‘friends’ don’t appear on it. It’s okay. I’ve got you, and I know you’ll be always there for me,” he said, purposely misunderstanding his hyung’s words.
Anxious for the topic to be quickly put away, Kibum hurriedly added, “So, what do you wanna do today?” He grinned. “And don’t say counting the steps on staircases- I’ve done that already. There are 23 steps on the main staircase, 7 to the attic, 12 to the basement, and there are 4 front porch-”
Suddenly, a familiar sound was heard through the house- the click-clack of their dad’s shoes. But the steps were rapid ones, each click and clack sounding in time to Kibum’s slowly quickening heartbeat.
Why was he home so early? He’s normally home much later! Kibum glanced quickly to the digital wall clock on his bedroom’s wall. It’s only one-fourteen! What’d be so important that he would come home so-
So, I put “onkey” as a tag. Would you consider their relationship slightly like a “friendship onkey?” Don’t worry, there’s no incest! ^^;
