New School

I sighed as I got out of the car and looked at my new school. I already missed my old life in Seoul, but I had to move here to this small town because of my health.

I recently had my second pneumothorax and ended up in the hospital. My parents thought it was best for me to come here and stay with my grandparents while they were in America for their work. They didn't think I could handle the travel or something.

I slowly walked up to the school and was greeted by a girl and two guys who looked like twins.

The blond guy came up and bowed, "You're No Minwoo, right?" he asked.

I nodded, "I'm Youngmin, the class president. This is Hyorin and my twin brother Kwangmin, the vise-presidents."

He led me into the school and showed me my classroom. The teacher, Mr. Choi, made me introduce myself to the class. Everyone was friendly and greeted me. He then told me to take my seat.

I walked between the desks and took my seat in the back of the classroom. I looked over at the girl sitting next to me. She had long black hair, but I couldn't see her face because she was looking away from me out the window.

I decided to just ignore her for now and introduce myself to her later. The lesson started and I took notes, but I noticed that the girl hadn't looked away from the window. I tapped her arm, "Shouldn't you be taking notes?"

She didn't look away from the window and just shrugged slightly. "I'm listening. There's no need to take notes." she replied quietly.

"Can you remember everything?" I asked.

She nodded, "Of course."

"Oh, ok then." I paused for a moment, "I'm No Minwoo, by the way."

"I know." she replied.

"...So, what's your name?" I asked awkwardly.

She finally turned to look at me and my eyes widened slightly when I saw her face. She was beautiful with large brown eyes and full lips, but what made me gasp quietly was the eyepatch over her left eye. It was white and looked like the type you would get from the doctor after getting eye surgery. What happened to her?

I saw her other eye narrow slightly at my reaction, but she didn't mention it. Instead she just said, "My name is Kim Miyoung."

I blinked, "O-oh. Uh, it's n-nice to meet you Miyoung-ssi."

She just nodded and went back to looking out the window. I was really curious about her eye, but I figured she probably wouldn't tell me about it. I would have to ask someone else about it later.

When the lesson ended and it was time for lunch, I got my bag and Kwangmin came over to me. "Do you want to eat lunch with us?" he asked. I nodded and he led me to the cafeteria.

We sat down at a table with Youngmin, Hyorin, and a few other kids whose names I didn't know. We started eating and I looked around for Miyoung, but couldn't find her anywhere.

"Are you looking for someone?" asked Hyorin.

I nodded "Uh, Yeah. I'm looking for Miyoung-ssi."

"Oh, she usually doesn't eat in the cafeteria during lunch. I think she eats in the art room." answered Youngmin. "Why? Do you need her for something?"

"N-no,"I said quickly. "I was just talking to her in class and... Um, do you know what happened to her eye?"

Youngmin just shrugged and continued eating his lunch, "I don't know. She's had it for as long as I can remember. I asked her about it once a few years ago and she just told me that it was 'an accident'."

"Oh, ok." I responded quietly.

Kwangmin laughed, "Don't worry about her. She may seem cold and quiet, but she's a nice person. She's just been through a lot. Her parents killed themselves last year."

"What? That’s horrible!" I replied with wide eyes.

He nodded, "Yeah, but there are a lot of things that happen in this town, you’ll get used to it eventually."

I was confused, "What do you mean?" I asked.

He leaned in slightly and quietly said, "This town is haunted."
