Smile again

3 Identities of my Mysterious Wife

L.Joe looked everywhere but at Mihye, avoiding eye contact with her. He was still blushing from the contact of their fingers and he would rather die than let her know that he was behaving like a teenage boy right then.

Both of them dried themselves up with towels as effectively as they could, laughing when they recalled the epic event. It seemed they really had some sort of affinity with water, when the last time they had fun together was at the water fountain in Hongdae.

L.Joe was about to reach into the picnic basket for her last surprise, the birthday cake, when an unfamiliar ringtone rang. He checked his own just in case, but it was clearly not his.

He was surprised to find that it was actually Mihye's, and she immediately picked it up, frowning when she saw the caller. "Yeoboseyo? Jiyeon?" she murmured, her brows furrowed.

Upon hearing that it was a FEMALE caller, L.Joe immediately relaxed and began forming scenarios in his mind on how to get the cake out. Should he just toss it out casually like he didn't really put much effort into finding the perfect cake, or should he light the candles secretly and hold it out in her face as a surprise?

It wasn't until Mihye tapped his shoulder tenderly that he broke away from his thoughts. "Byunghun oppa." Mihye bit her lip, looking guilty but worried at the same time. L.Joe frowned, noting how different she looked just moments after the call. She looked pale and the way she kept her lips told him she was nervous.

"I have to go." Mihye whispered apologetically.

L.Joe frowned. "What?" he perked up, disappointment filling his insides. He glanced at the clock. They were only out for three hours. He still had many activities planned for the rest of the afternoon, and even ordered for a mini firework display at night which he was hoping to beat Kevin's. And she had to go now? NOOOOO!!!

"I'm really sorry Byunghun oppa." Mihye already began to gather her things and keep the food that were all untouched. "I'm really grateful for your effort today, Byunghun oppa. It was the best thing anyone had ever done for me." she smiled at him softly. "But something cropped up. Uhm...with...with the flower sisters. You know, Jiyeon, Hyomin and Qri. I have to go now. It's really urgent."

"Oh." L.Joe slowly crawled back up and forced a smile. "If you must go....I guess there's nothing I can do." he took her bags. "Come on, at least let me drive you to the destination."

Mihye nodded eagerly and rushed towards where his car was parked. L.Joe sighed and followed her along, the spring in his steps long gone. *Must you really go?* he thought dejectedly.

Mihye rushed into the head quarters panting. Although L.Joe had offered to drive her, she had made him drop her a block away from the head quarters and waited for him to drive off out of sight before feeling that it was safe enough to make her way to where the Women Organization usually held their meetings.

She rushed into the meeting room and found numerous papers and documents all rolled out on the table as the members began discussing something in great detail. "You found what J.T. stands for." Mihye swallowed in excitement as she faced Qri.

Qri sent a smug smile and pushed up her black rimmed glasses that she wore once in a while when she wanted to go for the cuter look. "Yeah. Took a while, but I think we've finally found what it means." she grinned. "It stands for J. Tune. A company that specialises in music recording and composing, rather renowned in the music world."

"A company that specialises in music recording and composing?" Mihye echoed. "Why do they want to violate women?" she frowned, confused.

"According to our research," Hyomin continued. "The J. Tune company workers have noted how their company president still hates women even after the government tried to promote gender equality. Not only how they refuse to take in female employees, but they sometimes even forbid their workers to get married or have relationships with women as well. They don't like it when men take women as a responsibility and marry them."

"It's insane." Mihye frowned.

"Yeah it is." Jiyeon agreed. "But there can only be six people who might be the culprit who violated Eunjung and Boram. They are the Board of Directors for J.Tunes. Five of them, plus the CEO, because only they have the J.T necklaces that Eunjung and Boram had seen. However, the problem here is that no one knows who the CEO is. No one has seen the CEO nor the board of directors before. The company deals with some illegal activity from time to time so the higher positioned officers to everything to prevent themselves from getting caught. I guess this is one of the reasons why."

Mihye's heart sank. How were they going to find the culprit if no one knew who they were?

She saw the flower sisters looking at her anxiously, waiting for her call. She had to give them hope so that they could continue working. She couldn't let them down.

"Good job guys." she smiled and patted their shoulders. "We wouldn't have found these things without your help. At least we know it's J.Tune company now. It's going to be easier from now on."

The three sisters smiled and cheered happily, making the rest of the members of the Women's Organization cheer along with them. Boram smiled slightly, and Eunjung grabbed Boram's hands, trying to make the former be more open about expressing her feelings.

Mihye smiled slightly and sat down on a chair, looking over the documents. She looked down and her fringe covered her face, and that was when she finally let out the frown she was holding in.

These six men must be really careful in holding in their identities. Even their own company doesn't know who their boss was. The secretary doesn't know. The managers don't know. They must have went through an awful lot to keep that piece of information unknown to everyone.

They must not work in the company builing as well, Mihye realized. Because if they did, their workers would be bound to catch sight of them. So it was really going to be like finding a needle in a haystack for these six possible culprits.

Mihye closed her eyes momentarily and hoped for the best.

At 11pm at night, Mihye finally stepped through the front doors of their mansion. She yawned lightly and closed the door, noting how the lights were all dimmed already. Guilt that she had initially forgotten because of the work from the Organization distracting her, began surfacing again in her mind.

She felt really bad for abandoning L.Joe halfway through that day, especially when he went through all the trouble to celebrate her birthday.

To be honest, even though he was late, the birthday felt really special. It was like he really cared for her, and really wanted to see that smile on her face, as opposed to what he said about keeping appearances. But Mihye knew better than to let her mind wander off to unrealistic territories and shook her thoughts off.

She was about to climb up the stairs to her room when she noticed a head sticking out from the couch. She blinked and rubbed her eyes but the brown haired head was still there.

She tiptoed to the couch and her eyes widened.

L.Joe was sitting there, his eyes closed as he fell asleep. He was nodding off, his head bobbing up and down occasionally, and he looked really tired from trying to keep awake. Mihye's eyes travelled to the cake on the table and she softened.

Happy Birthday Mihye!

He had written on the cake. The cake wasn't beautifully done. It was distorted and uneven, awfully thick on one side and thin on the other. The chocolate looked burnt at some parts, and some parts looked like it was supposed to be a biscuit instead of a cake.

But that was all the proof she needed to know that he had made the cake himself.

Mihye softened and brushed his bangs from his face. *He must be tired.* she realized. *He must have been preparing all these things from last night and haven't got a chance to rest, especially when the company is in such a busy state nowadays.*

Mihye got a blanket and carefully tucked it around L.Joe. L.Joe stirred lightly and slumped down on the couch in a lying position, finally succumbing entirely to sleep. Mihye smiled softly and watched him.

"Thank you Byunghun oppa." she whispered. "You make me smile again when things are rough."
