“Is it true that there was someone in Mr. Kim Junsu’s life before Miss Jang Ri In?”

The Significance of One

Ri In’s POV

I was shaking. My hands were trembling. I couldn’t even hold my bottle of water. The reason, you ask. I was scared. Today was the day Junsu and I are going to sign the divorce paper and officially become unrelated in the terms of marriage. I really didn’t want to do it. I looked outside from behind the enclosed curtains and saw many reporters. I started having butterflies in my stomach. Sweat started pouring down. I got a tissue and wiped the perspiration off. I throat felt dry that I couldn’t even swallow. I gripped my bottle and gulped the water down my throat. When I brought it down, half of the contents were gone. I wanted to back out. I turned around and walked out. I was suddenly stopped.

“Where do you think you are going, Jang Ri In?” a voice asked. I lifted my face up and saw Taeyeon.

“Taeyeon-shii?” I questioned.

“Jang Ri In, if you love Junsu then sign the paper. Don’t leave,” she convinced me.

“So, in replace, you will be Junsu’s wife, right?” I asked her mockingly. It’s surprising weird that for me, mocking someone would calm me down. I am just using her now.

“Of course,” she replied. I actually laughed. I bit my lower lip and turned the other way to restrain myself from laughing further.

“Do you even think that Mr. and Mrs. Kim will even accept you?” I asked even though I already knew the answer.

“If they don’t, I will make them eventually,” she said. She seems over confident. I looked at the clock and sighed. It was time. I passed her with a wary face and proceeded to the stage.

“Yah! How dare you ignore me!?” she shouted at me but I continued on ignoring her. It is going to be a long interview.

Someone’s POV

I jumped up and down on my seat in the airplane. The flight was delayed so I only have a couple of minutes until Ri In and Junsu sign the divorce paper. I breathed in and out. I knew getting anxious wouldn’t help with anything so I calmed myself down. The people beside me were looking at me weirdly. I ignored them and checked my bag to see if the evidenced was still there. It was still there, all organised and ready to show.

“Please put on your seatbelts as we are about to land,” the flight attendant announced over the announced. I did what was told and buckled my belt. I quickly grabbed my gum out from my bag. Chewing gum will help stop the popping sound in my eyes. I swiftly tore off the wrapping and placed the contents in my mouth. I started chewing while I closed my eyes and leaned back onto the chair. This little landing was going to be long.

Junsu’s POV

We were having an interview. The interview was for reporters to ask questions so everything will be clear before we sign the papers.

“Mr. Kim Junsu, have you done anything with your wife?” the reporter asked. I knew what his question meant. This question was expected so I was already ready.

“Fortunately, no. We were to be in an arranged marriage so we did not love each other,” I explained and every one of the reporters nodded their head in acknowledgement.

“Miss Jang Ri In, do you love Mr. Kim Junsu, as rumoured?” one reporter asked Ri In.

“Yes, of course! He is my cousin,” she said. My heart stopped when she said she loved me but I sighed in relief when she said that she loved me because we were cousins. The reporters didn’t seem to be convinced that much but had no other way to ask the question again in other words without receiving the same answer.

“Do you love her, Mr. Kim Junsu?” another reporter asked me instead. I was going to answer the same thing that Ri In said.

“Of course! I love my cousin dearly!” again, they were disappointed. Reporters will try every way in the terms of words to get the shocking truth but if you are prepared, then you can easily get passed them. You just need to choose the right words to say.

“Mr. Kim, how did you not know that Miss Ri In was your cousin?” a reporter quizzed Appa. Instead of Appa replying, Omma did.

“It was because she was the daughter of my best friend. I never had the thought that my best friend would be my relative. It is such a pity that Ri In can’t be my daughter in law.”

“Have you any suspicion that the site is a fraud?” one of them asked. My head jerked up at the question. That question made me thinking.

“No, we have never thought of that. Though we did check thoroughly and researched again,” Omma replied, her voice an octave higher.

“Miss Ri In, are you planning on staying at the Kim’s your whole life?” a reporter asked.

“Aniy-,” Ri In started was cut by me.

“Of course, until she finds a person she can live with her for her whole life,” I replied for Ri In. I was shocked at what I said to the reporters but I just had to say it.

“Is it true that there was someone in Mr. Kim Junsu’s life before Miss Jang Ri In?” a reporter questioned. The question knocked me over. Well, not literally but mentally. We all understood what the reporter’s question meant. I quickly thought in my head for a reasonable answer and I decided to play dumb.

“Of course! My Omma was there first, my Appa, Junho hyung, my friends…” I trailed off, knowing that everyone got my idea.

“No, I meant-” he started but got interrupted by me.

“Next person!” I called out, clearing ignoring the helpless reporter. It was only allowed one question per reporter since there was about more than twenty reporters or so.

The reporters snapped many pictures and asked many more questions. We all answered them without hesitance. I sipped a little water from my glass. We all replied with a smile on our face, hiding our nervousness inside that we were actually feeling.

Someone’s POV

I quickly hurled a cab in right after I left the airport. I climbed in and told the address to taxi driver. He nodded and proceeded to drive. I slowly relaxed in my seat after running at a very high speed just get outside. I glanced at my watch and it was nearly time. After a couple of more questions, Ri In and Junsu will sign the paper. I jumped up and down after I told myself to calm down. It was hard being patient.

“Um, excuse me, can you please drive faster?” I urged the man politely.

“I will try,” the man said. I tried to relax but that didn’t help, at all. I fiddled with my fingers and held my portfolio close to my body. I checked inside it and it was still there. We were driving past many buildings. They were so familiar, like I had only left to New York just yesterday.

“We’re here!” the man told me. I quickly go that money out of my purse and scrunched into the man’s hand and jumped out of the car.

“No change,” I told the man before I got into a sprint. I sprinted and ran with force to the building. My heart was thumping loudly against my chest. It was only minutes till they officially become strangers.

Junsu’s POV

“It’s time to sign the papers!” called Appa. We were passed a black cover with a piece of paper in it. I read it thoroughly. It was just like any other divorce paper. Not that I knew what it should be but it wasn’t complicated. I grabbed the pen from in front of me. I looked at Ri In to see if she finished reading it yet. She was already finished before me. I looked at her and looked at the papers, passing my message through body language. She nodded.

“Once Ri In and Junsu sign this, they will no longer be husband and wife,” Appa announced. She looked at me, saying through body language that I should sign first. I nodded and lifted my pen. I reached the ball point pen to the area I was to sign. I let the pen touch the paper and I was about to sign.

“Wait!” I heard someone yell. I let the pen fall and I looked up. I was shocked to see that person here. Anyone I would have expected but that person.

Someone’s POV

I ran breathless into the press conference. I pushed the door of it open with a strong push.

“Wait!” I yelled. The reporters were surprised to see me here but not as surprised as the whole Kim family. Junsu’s parents and Junho had their mouth open. Ri In and Junsu had their eyes as big as saucers and their mouth was so wide open that you can actually fit a lion into it. Junsu and Ri In both yelled,

“Hee Bon!?”
