The headline said, ‘COUSINS GOT MARRIED?

The Significance of One

Ri In’s POV

It was still early on the day I have to announce that I am Junsu’s cousin. Han Geng still hasn’t come yet. I was happy that he hasn’t come yet. The longer that I can be Junsu’s wife, the happier I will be.

*ding*dong*

It must be Han Geng. I sighed in sadness and slowly walked to door and opened it.

“Han Geng Oppa,” I greeted.

“Li Yin, I have got the things ready. All you need to do is announce to them that you are the cousin of Junsu and hand them this,” he instructed and handed me a portfolio.

“OK,” I simply said and nodded my head.

“I have to go now, Li Yin. Bye,” Han Geng said and left before I could say anything else. I closed the door and sighed. I brought the portfolio with me and started reading it and practicing what she should say and very much also handling the dinner.

By the time dinner was finished, I was finished with practicing what I was going to say.

*ding*dong*

That must be Appa and Omma with Junsu. I opened the door and invited them in.

“Appa, Omma, Junsu. Junho?” I asked. I was surprised to see him here.

“Annyong, dongsaeng,” Junho greeted.

“Annyong,” I replied.

“Are you going to let us stand here the whole day, Ri In?” Appa said jokingly.

“Mianhe, come in!” I invited and led then to the kitchen.

“Wow, Ri In, have you already set the dinner? It looks delicious,” Omma praised me.

“Oh no, it’s just normal. Please eat,” I told them. Everyone took their seat and started to eat.

“The food is delicious, Ri In,” Omma complimented.

“Thank you,” I thanked shyly. The dinner included steak with gravy and vegetables and ice-cream as the dessert.

“Ri In, we are expecting grand children soon,” Omma said. Both Junsu and I coughed on what we were eating.

“Yeah, you two, I want a nephew soon!” Junho said.

“Omma, Appa, Junho Oppa, I think it’s too early,” I tried to excuse.

“It’s not too early!” Omma complained.

“I have some things to handle first,” I said and smiled warmly at her. She was silent then and we dropped the subject.

The rest dinner was a bit awkward when someone would ask me a question but beside that, the dinner was fun. Once everyone was finished with eating, I go ready to announce this.

“Appa, Omma, Junsu-shii, Junho Oppa,” I began, “I have something important to say,” I said and everyone turned their attention towards me. I kept my face straight and my voice serious.

“I think Junsu and I should have a divorce,” I started off slowly.

“Bwoh? What are you talking about, Ri In?” Omma asked astonished. I sighed and carried on.

“Omma, I had recently found out that I am Junsu’s blood related cousin,” everyone gasped and left their mouth hanging open.

“What…what? How could that be possible? You are the daughter of my friend and she isn’t related to me!” Omma exclaimed. I sighed and reached over to grab the portfolio and gave it to Omma and Appa to study. I glanced over at Junsu but I couldn’t read his expression. Though his lips were curving up, his eyes weren’t.

Junsu’s POV

I felt crushed. Crushed, that simple word. I shouldn’t feel crushed. At least I know that I will be free. I can go with Taeyeon now. Taeyeon will be happy. At that thought, I smiled a bit but my eyes didn’t do the same. My lips were the expressions that could be faked, my eyes were my soul and heart that cannot be lied to.

“Junsu, you haven’t done anything to her, have you?” Junho asked me and with a raised eyebrow. Everyone turned around to me. I flushed.

“O-of course not, hyung!” I denied. Everyone in the room except me and Ri In sighed in relief. I saw her giggle and couldn’t help but giggle myself. She immediately looked at me and I stopped. I gave her a straight face and after a while, she looked away.

“Then, I have to organise a press conference so everyone will know that you are Junsu’s cousin,” Appa said. That was reasonable.

“You might have to tell the media about this too,” Appa continued. I couldn’t speak at all. I didn’t want to be the one to end this. I didn’t know why though.

“I will organise everything. You kids get back to what you do everything,” Appa excused us rather angrily. I knew Appa liked Ri In like his own daughter, same with Omma. This news would make them very sad.

In my office the next day, I threw the newspaper on the table with a loud thud. Appa had already announced to the media that Ri In and I were having a divorce. The news spread really fast and was the top headline since our company is very famous. Taeyeon burst through the door with a giant big smile on her face.

“Junsu Oppa, she is longer a burden to us!” Taeyeon exclaimed. I faked a smile and nodded.

“Aren’t you happy, Oppa?” she questioned with a disappointed face.

“Of course I am,” I said and tried to smile happily. She actually fell for it and ranted on how lucky we are and about our future. I smiled and nodded a couple of times to show her that I was listening but I actually wasn’t. My mind was somewhere else. I couldn’t bear to think what my future was without Ri In. I mean, it made sense that I was to be Ri In’s husband for life but I didn’t know this would happen.

Someone’s POV

I threw the newspaper on the paper with a loud thud. I was in my office, reading my newspaper like normal when I saw the headlines. Even the news from Korea made it hot here in New York. Of course, Junsu’s father’s company was one of the biggest companies in the whole of Asia and even America.

The headline said, ‘COUSINS GOT MARRIED?’ and beneath it, was Junsu and Ri In’s name in quite a size. It looked like ‘Cousins Kim Junsu and Jang Ri In’ There was a picture of Junsu and Ri In separately. I picked up the newspaper again to confirm what I saw and read the first parts of the article.

‘A day ago, the whole family of the Kim’s discovered that Jang Ri In was Kim Junsu’s cousin. It was discovered from an accident while Jang Ri In was searching the web because she quit her job, and stumbled upon a site that involved her family tree and ancestors. Interested, as any human would be if it was about their family, she looked over at the family tree and trailed off into the past of her family. She then discovered something really weird about the family tree. Since she had free time, she researched all about and related that she and Kim Junsu were blood related cousins.

‘Rather frustrated, Mr. Kim organised a press conference to be held to witness the divorce of Kim Junsu and Jang Ri In so there will be no further problems. It was admitted from the mouth of Mr. Kim that he was very sad. He and his wife had thought of Jang Ri In as their own daughter. It was a pity that Jang Ri In was their relative since it distanced their relationship. The couple found one part of the news happy because at least Jang Ri In was their relative. They could continue to have Jang Ri In with them since Jang Ri In’s parents past away after some tragic accident.

‘Jang Ri In will continue to be hospitality of the Kim’s. The press conference is due to happen at the second twelfth hour of tomorrow, which is twelve o’clock in the afternoon. At there, reporters may ask questions. It’s presumed that the most obvious and first question is to be asked is ‘Have you done anything with your cousin?’ That is bound to be directed at Kim Junsu. Though the news will make the cost value of the company to go down, Mr. Kim estimated that I would be a way serious problem if discovered after.’

I threw the newspaper on the table again in frustration; this time way harder. I sighed and buried my face in my hand. I decided to go Seoul for a visit.

“Can you please organise me tickets to the Seoul as soon as possible. The next flight,” I told my assistant.

“Yes,” she said and it was silent for a while. I decided that she had a little researching to do so I my computer and decided to look up the case of Junsu and Ri In. I typed in the site on the article with a couple of seconds and pressed ‘Enter’ or as some people say the ‘Return’ button. The site came up and I looked at it, tracing back to all of Ri In’s ancestors. I suddenly stopped when I reached Junsu’s grandfather. Junsu’s grandfather’s name was spelt wrong.

I quickly opened another tab and searched the name on the site into Google. There was a chance that the person they mentioned in the site is different from Junsu’s grandfather. I Google-d Junsu’s grandfather’s, or so to what it says on the site, history and it was different from the one on the site. It was the same to Ri In’s family. There was only one person I know can do this. That person is very talented. A work of a year, that person can do it one day. That person is the one and only Hang Kyung. He is skilled in researching. Even if it may take him three years to find a small detail, he shall find it. Nothing was too hard for him. So yes, the site was a fraud. Junsu and Ri In have no relation at all.

I sat back in my chair and relaxed. This was going to be easier that I thought. I have all the evidence here. I started printing the evidence. Hang Kyung cannot fool me. Someone with precision eyes like me will be able to spot anything. You won’t be able to fool me, Hang Kyung.
