Why does it take years of waiting for them to reunite?

It feels like more than a lifetime. Sometimes it is.

But sometimes, they get lucky. And the cycle continues.

Foreword

She woke up hearing fluttering by her open window. While scrunching up her eyes, there on the window sill stood a crow. It cawed for a second then flew away. She sighed and forced herself out of bed, reaching over to the window and closing it.

She stood by the window, looking out at the pale sky. The sun was slowly rising and had inked the sky with oranges and pinks. Her hand rested against the glass and she stared ahead into the horizon where the sun rose.

Her skin absorbed the warmth of it until it started to pain her. Her head became heavy and she had to cradle her head in her hands. Stepping away from the window she stood in the dark shadows in her room. The pain calmed down and her body carefully released itself from its hard tensing moment.

A wavering sigh left her lips. She looked out the window again, feeling much calmer this time. Her eyes transfixed on a dark figure at the end of the street. She couldn’t see his face, nor what he wore. It was all shady and black.

She stared for so long as if whoever it was, was staring back too. She finally blinked, the dryness stung for a bit. She opened her eyes again and the darkness was gone.

Her brows knitted in confusion as her eyes darted from every corner of the street. It was completely empty. Not a person in sight.

The sound of her alarm clock made her jump.

She ran over to it and switched the awful ringing off. It would be another day at school for her.

While he followed cautiously, watching her every move and being her saviour without her knowing.
