A Chance At A Second Chance
I walked into the office and greeted everyone. Even though I don’t work here, it already feels like my company and unlike my father, I will make good of this company… the legal way. I’ve been thinking about Jenny for the past few days and I can’t seem to get over the fact that I made myself look like such an idiot that day.
I walked into my office, which my father made in advance for me and sat down. My assistant walked into my office.
“Mr Lee, there have been some new improvements done to your office, your father wants to know if you like them.”
I smiled and nodded my head, “Yes, tell my father I love it but it’s unnecessary. I don’t think a businessman would have any time to watch television and play golf.”
“Was there anything else?”
“Yes, the reason I came here in the first place was to tell you that we are holding interviews for internships, for both high school and university students and your father wants you to hold them.”
I reached my hand out and grabbed the applications and placed it on the table.
“Is my father in today?”
“No sir, he’s on an overseas business trip to Japan.”
“Lee Chunji! THOSE two are here,” Tae Myung hyung walked into the office.
Jenny and Woohyun? They’re here?
Tae Myung let out an irritated sigh and walked over to my desk, opening up the security footage. He pointed to the screen with Jenny and Woohyun talking to the other intern applicants.
“What are they doing here?”
Tae Myung hyung scoffed, “Trying to pull off one of their schemes. Those two had a big fight, why on earth are they working together?”
Tae Myung hyung then continued to rant and I zoned out. Why are those two back? I really should go and apologise to Jenny, maybe there’s a slight chance that she’ll give me a second chance. I still hate that I lost Jenny…
I stood up and picked up the applications and handed them over, “Assistant Kim, how much time do we have left before the interviews?”
“Half an hour.”
“Great, can you go and round up the applicants? I must make a small detour to the bathroom. I’ll meet you there.”
“Hey Chunji, what do you want me to do with these two?”
“Nothing, you’ve done enough. I’ll deal with it this time.”
Tae Myung hyung nodded his head and walked towards me.
“Yeah, you’re right. I still have a few injuries from the last time I did something.”
He patted me on the shoulder, “Good luck man.”
I nodded my head, “Yeah. Thanks hyung.”
“Okay, I’m going to go now.”
I waited until Tae Myung got into the elevator to make my way to my father’s office. I walked up to the back of the room and placed my hand on the window and a book fell off the shelf.
I walked over to shelf and looked into the spot where the book used to be. I pulled out a box and had a look inside. I took out the folder inside and quickly put the book back on the shelf.
I stood outside the interview room and looked at Jenny, who was filling out some paperwork. I smiled as I watched her. She looks so beautiful… Her gestures are so soft and gentle… is she doing this because this is her or is it because she’s acting like this to get in?
“Mr Lee, we’re ready now.”
I nodded my head and took a deep breath. Lee Chan Hee, it’s time to be professional, you are at the office now.
I cleared my throat and walked into the room, smiling at everyone until I reached Jenny. Making eye contact with her is harder than I thought. I plastered on a smile and nodded at her and completely ignored Woohyun.
“So I would just like to say that everyone should be themselves for this interview,” I glanced over at Woohyun, “remember, lies always get exposed.”
I looked over at Jenny who didn’t react at all.
I clapped my hands together, “Okay, let’s get these interviews started.”
Assistant Kim handed me my half of the folders. I looked down and smiled when I saw Jenny’s name.
“Choi Jun Hee, please follow me.”
Jenny looked down as she picked up her bag. I swiftly turned around and walked another interview room.
“Please, sit down,” I smiled at Jenny.
She gave me a small smile before sitting down, avoiding eye contact with me the whole time. We sat there in a short moment of silence.
“I’m here to get your dad’s files and-”
“I know,” I interrupted.
Jenny looked up at me with a surprised look on her face.
I cleared my throat as I gave Jenny the folder I took from my dad’s office.
“Here, take it.”
Jenny blinked at me, “Why?”
“Because, during the three months I spent with you, I think I did meet the real Jenny and the real Jenny wouldn’t stop at anything for justice.”
“What? So you’re on my side now?”
“Not exactly,” I paused.
I couldn’t tell if I was doing this for justice or for Jenny. Am I doing this because I want a chance at a second chance?
“I’ll give you the documents you need but I will still find a way to keep my father out of jail.”
Jenny opened the folder and looked through, while nodding her head.
“It’s everything we need, thank you.”
She stood up from her chair. No. She can’t go. She can’t leave. Not now.
I grabbed her hand as she was walking past me. I stood up and looked at her straight in the eyes.
“Are you really going to leave me?”
Looking deeper into her eyes, I could see that she was exhausted; tired... could it possibly be because of me? Did she give up on me? Did she give up on us?
She jerked her hand away from me and quickly glued her eyes to the floor, “I’m sorry.”
She left the room without saying a word. She left as quickly as she walked in… into my life. My eyes were tearing up as I watched her walk further and further away from me.
I really did want to call you ‘yeobo’ someday…
