I Don't Have The Heart...
Min Ji went to hang out inside Shin Hye-eonni's room again. Even if she was in first grade in high school, she acted like a brat still.
"Eonni, may I hang out in here? Please?" Min Ji pleaded.
"What can I do?" Shin Hye asked with a sigh. "You're already here."
Min Ji noticed the new arrangement in the room.
"Eonni, if I were you, I'll keep my table at the foot of the bed so I get to see Yong Hwa-oppa everyday," the younger Park said.
Shin Hye did not want to hear anything about Yong Hwa anymore. She would rather drown herself in books.
"You should start studying for the CSAT," Shin Hye told her sister bluntly.
"I know, that is why I am here," Min Ji said. "I cannot concentrate on studying because my room smells of mothballs."
She told her eonni that Eomma placed some mothballs in the drawers to keep the insects away.
"Your room will be next," Min Ji warned her.
Shin Hye rolled her eyeballs and got back to studying her lessons. Min Ji snatched her eonni's phone and grinned.
"May I borrow your phone?"
Min Ji grinned that her eonni did not even try to snatch her phone away.
"Hehe, so, is it all right if I answer Yong Hwa-oppa's calls?" Min Ji asked mischievously.
"Whatever," Shin Hye said without looking at her.
"Omo, Eonni, you are strange!" Min Ji said. "Are you and Oppa fighting?"
"Ani," was the elder girl's laconic answer.
Min Ji shrugged as she tinkered her eonni's phone.
"Silent mode? Vibrate mode?" she asked.
"I am studying," Shin Hye said. "I won't entertain any calls."
"Not even from Oppa?" Min Ji asked in disbelief.
Shin Hye's temper was about to reach the boiling point, so she turned to her sister and told her bluntly to just answer his calls if she wanted to. Min Ji perked up because it would be her chance to get close to Yong Hwa.
"Krystal's his girlfriend already," Shin Hye pointed out bluntly.
"Mwo????? Andwae!!!!" Min Ji sobbed like a fangirl.
The younger Park had her phone in silent mode and in vibrate mode too so that she could study in peace. The room became an abode of silence, with both girls busy with their studies.
Yong Hwa got in his room after dinner and looked at the window across his window. The room was lit up, but no one was in sight. He sighed as he got his guitar.
"If only she had stayed with us at the noraebang and be a good fellow, that would be great," he thought bitterly.
He tuned his guitar and found it perfect. He snatched his phone and dialed Shin Hye's number.
"Please... please answer...." he prayed.
From the other room, Min Ji noticed Shin Hye's phone vibrating, and saw Yong Hwa's name flashed on the screen.
"Answer my phone," Shin Hye said without looking around.
"Hey, it's my phone," Min Ji lied. "I had it vibrating and silent too."
Since Shin Hye had given her the permission to answer all calls, she discreetly answered the call.
"Shin Hye-ya...." Yong Hwa said from the other line.
Min Ji knit her eyebrows as she looked at her sister in confusion.
Meanwhile, from the other house, Yong Hwa was very thankful that Shin Hye finally answered his call.
"Shin Hye-ya," he said, interferring her. "I need to talk to you. Well, I know you wouldn't talk to me in person, so let me just say what I want to say."
He sighed deeply.
Min Ji bit her fingernails in confusion. What the heck had happened? She looked again it confusion at Shin Hye, her mind puzzled as to why her eonni would act like that.
Krystal and Yong Hwa were lovers....
And Shin Hye acted strange.
"Could it be possible that Shin Hye-eonni is jealous at Krystal-eonni?" Min Ji thought. "But why is Yong Hwa-oppa calling?"
She did not talk at all and just listened to Yong Hwa.
"I know you are so hurt that I don't love you the way you love me," Yong Hwa sighed. "I just want you to be happy for us. And I just want you to be friends with us again."
Sighs escaped his lips.
"Since you were there to comfort me before this had happened, can we still be friends?" Yong Hwa asked. "I... I care so much for you, and I don't want to see you hurting. But... please understand me as well."
He tapped the guitar next to him and continued.
"Let me sing to you a song so you'll now what I am feeling right now," he said.
He put down his phone onto his bed and grabbed his guitar. He began strumming to James Ingram's song, "I Don't Have The Heart."
"Omo, what is he doing?" Min Ji asked herself.
The strumming of the guitar could be heard from the other line, and she heard Yong Hwa beginning to sing. She listened to a confession and to a song which was meant for Shin Hye, but she knew that Shin Hye did not want to listen to it.
"Heck, Eonni gave me the permission to answer his calls!" Min Ji rationalized to herself.
Yong Hwa's voice was solemn and sad, and Min Ji felt her heart aching. Aching because she was a bit jealous of her eonni. But more so, her heart was aching because she thought that she had felt her eonni's pain. It was just so sad...
Min Ji was not able to utter a thing after he sang, and she froze there like a statue.
"Omo, what might have happened?" she thought.
Yong Hwa put the guitar next to him and grabbed his phone.
"So, now, Shin Hye-ya, you heard my side of story," he explained. "I hope you'll get over me and just be happy for me... And I hope someone better than me will come and love you..."
He bit his lips in silence and bid her goodbye.
"I hope she will understand and accept it," he sighed as he lay down on bed.
Min Ji frowned when the other person in the other line hung up the call.
"Babo," she mouthed the words.
Shin Hye turned around to her and asked for her phone.
"What for?" Min Ji asked.
"What do you mean 'what for'?" Shin Hye asked. "Of course, it is my phone!"
Min Ji handed the phone and wished that her eonni would not scroll through the call log. She watched as Shin Hye navigated through the alarm clock and set the time.
"Whew! That was close!" Min Ji thought in relief.
She watched her eonni put her phone beside her.
"Eonni, I have a good idea," Min Ji proposed. "I will sleep on the floor so I won't bother you. Eotteohke saengakhae (What do you think)?"
"Suit yourself," Shin Hye replied without turning around.
Min Ji grinned as she got out of bed and went out of the door. Poor Yong Hwa did not know that someone actually heard the song, and he had thought that only Shin Hye was inside the room at that time.
