Love: It’s a topic that you don’t think about much. Not because it’s something you don’t believe in, or even something you don’t want. It’s just something that’s not applicable to your life right now. There’s a time and a place for everything, and being in love at 23 while you’re trying to survive college? Nope, definitely not an ideal situation.

    Sure, there are moments when you’re lonely. Sometimes it even feels crushing. The need to hold someone and be held back. The need to dote on someone and hear them do the same for you. The need to do all those cutesy things that you find yourself thinking about when you’re at your loneliest. Not to mention that ache you get everytime you see a couple being all lovey-dovey. However, 95% of the time love and romantic relationships are the furthest thing from your mind.

    You’ve been in love before, and after those three years it’s lost a lot of it’s appeal. The relationship wasn’t bad per se, but you were both young, and in hindsight you recognize that it wasn’t healthy. You spent too much time together, and your partner was controlling and emotionally abusive in a very subtle, unintentional, way. The first two years felt like utter bliss, but in your last year together you were only searching for a way out.

    Maybe that mess traumatized you, or maybe it just made you cynical. Either way, you feel like love isn’t what it’s made out to be in the movies. Deep inside your heart you’re hoping against hope that someone will come along and change your mind.

    However there’s no time for that mushy nonsense right now. College. College is your main priority. Get decent grades, don’t drop out, and don’t go insane in the process. Sweet and simple.
