“Ho Ho Wake me uuuuuup! Thirsty Thirsty fooooor love. Wake me wake me uuuuuuup! Thirsty Thirsty fooooooor love.” The sound of a phone’s ringtone echoed through a room, which is radiantly lit by the sun’s early morning rays. It played in loop for about three times when a sound of a boy groaning from under the sheets accompanied it. There was a few moments of silence when the ringtone played again. Annoyingly, the 18-year-old, Mark, got up, throwing the sheets in the air with his eyes still close and reached for his phone on the top of his bedside table. He answers the call without looking at the caller ID.

“Mark!!!” squealed a voice over the phone.
 

“Huuuuuu. What now, Jaemin-ah?” Mark whimpered in his husky morning voice to his bestfriend who sounded so hyper on the other side of the line. A loud cackle was heard in reply that Mark had to distance the phone from his ear.

“Oh? Did I wake you up? -chuckle- Nothing. I just want to say that classes will start already tomorrow. I'm sooooooo excited and I’m on my way now to your unit from my morning jog because I’m bored and I wanna hangout. Okay see ya, brother!” the phone call ended and Mark was blank from what just happened. Did his bestfriend just destroyed his good and peaceful sleep just to tell him that he is coming over because he’s bored? Mark groaned again as he slumped back to his bed, trying to fall back to sleep.

“Ho Ho Wake me uuuuuup! Thirsty Thirsty fooooor love. Wake me wake me uuuuuuup! Thirsty Thirsty fooooooor love.” His phone’s ringtone went off again and again, he answered it with a groan without looking at the caller ID.

“Jaemin-ah! Jebal let me sleep!” He shouted at the phone with his eyes close.

“Oh sorry, sweetie. Did I wake you up?” A gentle voice said from the phone. Mark’s sleepy eyes shot opened, fully awake when he hears his mother’s voice over the phone. Did he just shouted at his own mother over the phone?

“I’ll just call again later so you can go back to sleep, okay?”

“Nonononono. It’s not like that. It’s just that Jaemin’s being so annoying just now I thought he was you. Sorry, mom. So what’s up?” Mark’s tone softened. He just missed his mother very much even though he went home last week during the school break, but still there’s no place like home in their hometown with the warmth of his mom and dad.

“Do you remember the little kid, Donghyuck, that I used to tell you about? The one I told you who you used to play with back when you were still kids.”

“Oh? Your BFFs' son? Yeah. I remember you mentioning about him. So, what about him?” Mark was not reallly sure if that was the one his mom is asking. He never heard of the name before, but as he remembered his mom said he only had one playmate when he was a kid. The one he usually sees in some of his childhood photographs. Although Mark was confused on why his mother bring up such ancient topic, he still asked away. He can’t even remember how that kid Donghyuck exactly looked like. All knows is that his parents and that boy’s parents were BFFs. They lived next to their house when he was 7, but they moved back to Jeju a year after.

“Well, uhmmm he was accepted in your school and we decided to let him stay with you there, so we can save some expenses and so that, you’ll have a companion there. So, I want you to clean and prepare the other room for him, okay?” Mark’s sleepiness fully departed him in hearing his mother’s words, especially the “companion” part. He loves living alone. He didn’t even realize that he was already living alone for almost a year and half. Though he always at cooking, but still he managed. Above all else, he is afraid of people. He doesn’t know how to socialize properly and make friends. He knows he’s awkward, yet he doesn’t try to be less because he loves just how he is now, peaceful and productive. That’s why he only has one friend, and that is his best friend, Jaemin who was the total opposite of him.

“Eh?! But! But, Mom─”

“No, but’s, Mark. He’ll probably arrived there tonight, therefore you got plenty of time to prepare his room. Okay? I gotta go, sweetie. I love you and take care, you two okay? I’ll call again later.” The line was cut with the sound of his mother's “mwah!” over the line.

“Wait, Mom! Why do─” Mark tried to object and explain his part, but now he was left with no choice. Why on earth would his parents decide on this without consulting him, first. He spent a few moments spacing out on his bed when it dawned to him that he’ll really be having a housemate, a second person in the house, a human being who's gonna live with him until he finishes high school in 2 years time. A wave of anxiety splashed and shook every muscle in his body. Mark still can’t believe how his day before school started that awfully. He had no good hopes about Donghyuck, but he would be really thankful if he’s a “Don’t-Talk-To-Me-Please-Just-Pretend-That-I-Don’t-Exist-Here” type of person. Sighing in defeat, he stood up from the bed to proceed to the other room to plan on how to clean and arrange it, but his steps were stopped by a low growling sound.

“Oh, I have to hunt first my breakfast.” He whined to himself as he rubbed his stomach.
