Nam Ji Hyun felt the sunlight blinding her so she turned away to face the wall. Suddenly she felt her bed dip a little indicating that someone is now sitting at her back. ‘Hey, brat! Get up! Its breakfast time. Uri Appa and Omma are now waiting.’ her unnie started shaking her shoulders.

‘Unnie, chaebal! 5 minutes more! Let me sleep for 5 minutes more!’ Ji Hyunie was whining she knew but she didn’t care. It was her unnie after all. She lifted the bedcover over her head and try to go back to sleep. She slept at around 3am exchanging SMS with Chang Wookie Oppa. She smiled underneath the covers and tried to catch some snooze.

‘Arasso, I will tell Omma that you won’t get up because you are too sleepy,’ she stood up after tapping her . ‘and you actually stayed up late sending SMS to your Oppa, yadda yadda yadda!’, her unnie said while walking away from her bed.

‘Boragu!!’ Ji Hyun immediately flipped over her bed cover and sat on the bed so fast that she felt dizzy. ‘Unnie, chincha!! Chaebal!,’ Ji Hyun placed a hand to steady her head because she can feel her world spin.

‘Hahahaha. There we go, you are up so might as well come out and have breakfast with us.’ her unnie walked out of her bedroom.

Ji Hyun grabbed her head, ‘Ahhhhh!’, there were times really, that she wished that she was just an only child instead of being the youngest child. She scratched her head and decided that she might as well take a shower.

She raised both her arms above her head and stretched. She turned around and spotted her phone. ‘But first, let me send an emoji to Oppa.’, she thought.

She picked up her phone and chose an emoji to send to Chang Wookie-Oppa.

NJH: Oppa, Good Morning *heart*

After sending the message, she placed her phone on the bed and got ready to take a shower.

When she finished her shower, she checked her phone, she saw that it had 3 missed calls all from Chang Wookie Oppa. She smiled but decided not to send another message, if she starts an SMS exchange with him, she might get in trouble with Omma. Gadgets aren’t allowed on the table. It was a rule for them. The dining table is for eating and family conversations. She won’t be able to bring her phone with her while eating breakfast.

Her phone beeped again indicating that a message came. She checked the message and saw that it was from Oppa.

Oppa: Are you ignoring me now, Ji Hyun-Yang-ie? Ottoke dengoya? What did I do?

Ji Hyunie laughed at his message. ‘Why does his text seem so panicky?’, she was confused. She knew she greeted him and sent a heart. He seemed worried she can’t help but reply, ‘han-beon-man, Ji Hyunie, we could get in trouble with Omma;’ she told herself.

NJH: Mu-seun il-i-ya  Oppa? Kwenchana?’

Oppa: You didn’t take my call.

NJH: Ohhh, that.

Suddenly her phone played Freesia. ‘Ahhh’, Ji Hyunie internally screamed.

Putting her hand at her chest to calm herself down, she pressed the answer button.

‘Oppa?’

‘You didn’t answer my call. I called---, he sounded agitated. ‘3 times, arayo.’, she interrupted. ‘Kronde, waeyoo--,’ she interrupted him  again, ‘Oppa, I was in the shower.’ Then there was total silence.

Ji Hyunie thought that he had dropped the call it was so silent and still. The only thing she could her was herself breathing. ‘Oppa, are you still there?’, she was surprised at the thought that maybe he ended the call. But then he never did that, even during the time that he was mad at her, he wouldn’t drop the call.

‘Oppa, chincha!’ she was getting stressed so early in the morning. ‘Are you still there?’, she asked again.

Finally she heard him exhale and clear his throat. ‘Yes, Me and my active imagination, we are both still here.’

Ji Hyun  was confused for a while, but then she realized what he was talking about at the wake of the mention of her showering. ‘Hey, Oppa and your active imagination, you both behave!’, she said laughingly.

She heard him chuckle. ‘Arasso, jagiya. It will keep I promise. I can wait.’

Ji Hyun felt her cheeks reddened. ‘geu-man-hae, Oppa!’ She heard him laugh heartily. ‘Arasso, no worries!’

Suddenly, Ji Hyun jumped a bit in surprise, when she heard a knock on her door. ‘Ji Hyunie! Are you still sleeping? Get up now!,’ she heard her mother’s voice outside her door. ‘OMG! Oppa, it’s Omma! I need to go out for breakfast, you know her right?’, she whispered into her phone.

‘Yes, Omma! I am coming.’ Ji Hyunie answered. ‘I just finished showering, and I will be right out. Mianhe, Omma!’

‘Arasso,’ Ji Hyunie Omma answered, ‘and tell Chang Wookie good morning from me and appa!’, she can be heard walking away laughing.

Ji Hyunie heard Chang Wookie Oppa laughing at his end. She rolled her eyes and wondered why she was always on the defensive at times like this and why is everybody laughing at her.

‘Go and have breakfast now, Ji Hyun-yang-ie.’ said Chang Wook.

‘Okay, Oppa, you too.’ Ji Hyun answered, ‘have a nice day!’, she was about to end the call when, ‘Changkaman,’ he said.

‘Huh? Waeyo, Oppa?,’ She asked.

‘Popo?’

‘Ahhh, changkamanya.’ She ended the call, and pressed video call. As soon as his face came up on the screen she pressed her lips to it and then pressed end call.

Then she threw her phone on the bed and squirmed like an electrified eel while hugging her pillow and internally squealing. Suddenly she sat up on her bed, and hit her head using her fist, ‘Ah Domo mi-cheo-sseo. geu-man-hae Ji Hyunie, chaebal!’. She stood up and started walking to the door, she doesn’t want to upset her parents so early in the morning especially her Omma.

======

Ji Hyunie saw her father seated at his spot at the end of the table while her mother was pouring juice at the counter. Her father was reading his morning paper. Her Unnie was seated at his left. She saw her smirking at her and wriggling her eyebrows.

She widened her eyes at her questioningly and mouthed, ‘Waeyo? Bo?’, her unnie just shrugged her shoulders and continued to eat her sweetened persimmon and some salad.

‘Sit down.’ Her appa said without looking away from the newspaper.

As soon as she sat down, her mother placed a glass of fruit juice in front of her. ‘Heavy or light?’, she asked. Her mother was asking the kind of breakfast she wants to eat. If it was light it will probably be just some fruits with some vegetable salad. If she said heavy, then it would be the typical Korean breakfast galore with all the works.

Since she was feeling a bit lightheaded from the lack of sleep, she said ‘Light, Omma, Komowoyo.’ She raised an eyebrow at her but said nothing. Her mother placed sliced Kiwi and with some vegetable salad in front of her.

‘So how did you sleep?’, Appa was asking Ji Hyunie without even looking up from his paper. ‘It was okay, appa? How bout you, did you rest well?’, ‘Uh-huh’, he lifted his cup to drink his coffee.

Ji Hyunie Omma sat on her father’s right. This was how they have seated at the table since as long as she can remember. Omma placed some dumplings on her plate, she looked at her mother questioningly,’ ‘kwenchana, it is just dumplings so it is not heavy.’ her omma said.

When her mother sat down she noticed that she had with her a square package wrapped in brown paper. She wondered if her appa gave Omma a gift. It happens most of the time and she would always bring his presents for her at the breakfast table. Ji Hyunie thinks that maybe her Omma is a bit of a show-off, chincha! She smiled to herself.

‘Omma, what is that? Did you get another present from Appa?’, she asked her Omma. Her unnie also stretched her neck to peer at the brown, square package showing curiosity.

‘Aniya, It’s my package. I ordered it. I wanted to have a copy of it, we both did, right Ji Hyunie Appa?, she looked at her husband. ‘Uh hmm,’ he casually said.

‘So Omma, what is it?,’ Ji Hyunie was curious. It must be something special for Omma to bring it to the breakfast table. ‘Open it, chaebal.’ She saw her mom throw her a curious look before ripping the brown package open.

‘OMG!,’ Ji Hyunie was so surprised when she saw the content of the package. ‘Omma, you didn’t, chincha!’, to say that she was shocked was an understatement. Her Omma, her Omma had bought the photobook of her latest drama Suspicious Partner.

Her Unnie was laughing so hard, one hand was on her stomach and the other hand was gripping hard at the table to prevent her from falling over. She was also periodically hitting the table with her hand.

Ji Hyunie rubbed both her hand on her eyes, thinking that she must be hallucinating, yup her eyes must be playing tricks on her. Her Omma, her wonderful omma didn’t. Aniya-- she didn’t buy that photobook. She wanted to grab her hair in stupefaction and frustration. She inhaled and exhaled quickly. And she rolled her eyes at her unnie whose face was really red with all the laughing she had done.

Ji Hyunie started scrunching her eyes and cringing as she saw her mom open the photobook. ‘Omma, may I be excused?,’ her unnie burst out laughing. ‘Waeyo?,’ her appa asked. She closed her eyes and bit her lips trying to come up with an excuse to leave the table. Omma brought the photobook at the breakfast table, ‘Does that mean she wants to talk about the pictures there, here at the table with appa and unnie?’, she wondered.

‘Kanyang---,’ Ji Hyunie was at loss on what to say. ‘Ugh, Appa, can I just die right now?’, she suddenly blurted out.

Her appa put down his newspaper and looked at her calmly and said, ‘Aniya, you may not die, right now or any other time. It is still breakfast time so stay put.’, he went back to reading his paper as if nothing untoward had been asked.

Her unnie laughed out loud at her father’s statement while Ji Hyunie used both hands and started knocking at her head, wishing for unconsciousness to come just right this instant. She sometimes wish that she was the fainting type, this would be the perfect moment to do so.

‘Kwenchana, Ji Hyunie,’ her Omma calmly said. ‘I was just interested to see the pictures of the latest drama that became so popular, more than SKL.’

‘But Omma, you have seen the pics, remember?’, she reminder her Omma.

Ji Hyunie was feeling so restless in her seat especially when her mother started to turn open the photobook. She rubbed her eyes with her hands trying to relieve the stress that she was feeling. Surely there was nothing wrong in the pictures that were placed in the photobook. But then, she wasn’t really sure. She hasn’t seen it in it’s entirety at all. But she certainly hoped nothing crazy was there. She recalled the BTS clips were a surprise, some of the scenes seemed surreal even to her. She didn’t even realize that she was acting like that, or he was like that with her. She doesn’t even remember her doing that to him, or him doing that to her.  ‘Dear God, if you are there, chaebal, let a lightning strike me down now!’, she prayed to the heavens.

She looked at her appa, he was still reading his paper, while her unnie as slowly munching on her carrot. She glared at her unnie while she retaliated with sticking her tongue at her. She nervously looked at her mom who was busy flipping the pages of the photobook.

‘Ji Hyunie, eat. You have a photoshoot later remember?.’ her omma reminder her.

Ji Hyunie released the breath she was holding when it seemed like her Omma wasn’t going to say anything about any of the pictures that were in the photo book so maybe they were okay. She decided that she might as well continue eating, no use wasting food at what might haves. Her mom probably just wanted to see the pictures. ‘Odd, she was never this interested in any of my drama, except for the plots.’, she thought but then she realized that this is the drama that her Omma didn’t have a hand in because she was no longer managing her but SOOP.

‘Wow, you two actually look cute here.’, her mom commented. ‘Look appa. She slid the photobook closer to him. But since he had the newspaper open in front of him, Ji Hyun cannot see which picture she was talking about.

‘Omma, let me see too,’ her unnie was craning her neck to see but since she was seated across the table, she transferred to their mother’s side.

Ji Hyun looked suspiciously at the three heads coming together to look at the photobook, she wonders what were they looking at. But then she decided not to care, ‘whatever!,’ she told herself. She frowned when she heard her sister and her mother giggle. ‘Ahhh, but I am so curious too.’, she wanted to see as well but she stayed glued to her seat and continued to eat pretending not to care at all.

‘Ohh, this one’s is good, Omma,’ her sister was gushing. Ji Hyunie looked suspiciously at her unnie. She saw her mom who nodded. She frowned, chincha! Weren’t they planning to include her at all?

‘Uhmm, Omma? What is it?’ Can I see too?,’ finally giving in to her innocent curiosity.

‘Later, you are in these pictures so you know them all, right? You can look at them later after we are done.’, her omma said nonchalantly. She scrunched her nose and frowned at the trio at the head of the table.

‘Han-beon-man, eat quietly, Ji Hyunie,’ her appa told her gently.

‘Arasso, Appa.,’ she answered while pouting her lips. She slowly exhaled and continued eating while straining her ears trying to hear her sister and mother’s comments on the photos. But they were whispering so softly.

‘Hey, Omma look at this one.’, her unnie pointed at something at the photobook, while her omma said, ‘hmm?’, turning to look where her unnie was pointing at. Ji Hyunie picked up her glass of juice and started drinking from it.

‘Kronde, Omma, do you think they were using tongue here?’, her unnie asked. Ji Hyunie was so surprised to hear the question that she spit out her juice and started coughing immediately. She felt her face go hot, chincha! ‘Unnie!’, she blurted out shocked. What was more shocking was that her father handed her a box of tissue, ‘here, wipe that all up.’, he said calmly. She knew her father was unflappable most of the time but this is ridiculous.

She looked at her mother who was looking at her directly, suddenly her heart went dugun dugun, she was starting to sweat, ‘hmm, I am not sure. Ji Hyunie, did you or he made some tongue action here?’, her Omma asked while her sister laughed out loud.

‘Bo? Boragu? Omma, chincha!!!’, Ji Hyunie grabbed her hair and started pulling it. ‘Waeyo? Why are you asking me this now?’ Her heart was beating so fast, she was afraid that her heart may just burst. Chincha! She had the weirdest family of all. Loving and the best but weird.

‘Why ask you? Or why ask now?’, her omma said, ‘So when are we supposed to ask you?’, her unnie was giggling some more and she was sure that she was not enjoying her predicament. ‘Oh come on, Ji Hyun do tell! I am sure if he did use tongue you would have known it. Hahahaha.’, her sister asked while smirking at her.

‘OMG! Heol, Daebak! We are not having conversations on tongue kisses, chincha!’, She was starting to get stressed. And she can see her mom starting to smile teasingly at her.

‘Besides, who do we ask then? Chang Wook-shi?’, her mom asked her before turning to her husband, ‘Hyunie-appa, call Chang Wook-shi and ask him to come for dinner later and tell him we have something to ask him.’ Her unnie started to laugh out loud while banging at the table.

‘Ommmaaa, chaebal-chum!’ She was between laughing at herself and crying at the desperation that she was feeling at that moment. She didn’t even know what she was feeling right now. ‘Aniya, Omma! I would really really run away if you do that.’ She was starting to lose her sanity.

‘Well?’, her omma raised an eyebrow at her, waiting for her to answer the question. ‘Ahhh, Bo-la, Bo-la! I don’t remember!’, she was let out a deep sigh. She wanted to laugh with them, if it wasn’t her, she would be laughing as hard as her sister right now.

‘Ah chincha? So many kisses did the drama have?’, Ji Hyun Omma turned to her unnie. ‘I am not sure, Omma, 3 or four? Kronde, Omma, do you know that this one has a 4minute BTS?’, Ji Hyunie was gawking at her sister, ‘Unnie geu -man -hae!’

‘So they were kissing for 4 minutes?’, Her appa was now into the conversation.

Ji Hyunie started laughing at the absurdity of her situation. She leaned back at her chair and started laughing desperately pulling at her ponytailed hair.

‘Yes, appa,’ her unnie answered. ‘How long was the drama kiss in the drama, then?’ his voice sounded curious and he looked at her for an answer. Ji Hyun is so sure that she was going to die before breakfast was over but still she answered, ‘30 seconds, appa.

‘So you shot a kiss scene for 4minutes but need only a 30 second cut from the kiss?’, he arched his eyebrow at his youngest daughter. Ji Hyun placed her forehead on the table and started to bang her head on the table.

Her unnie and omma laughed at the question. The morning was turning out to be interesting for the family. Ji Hyunie placed both her hand at her forehead and rubbed her eyebrows trying to release some tension she was feeling.

‘Oh and yeah, appa, there is also a bed scene in the drama.’ her unnie said enthusiastically.

Her appa looked at her omma, ‘It is a Ro-Co, Ji Hyunie appa.’, he nodded at her as if his question  was answered when in fact he didn’t say anything. It was weird the way her parents communicate sometimes, her unnie and her find it mysterious but the seem to understand each other on a whole new level, with just a look and then a nod, a message is already given and the reply received.

‘Ji Hyunie appa, you need to get ready for work now.’ her omma turned to her appa with a pointed look.

He put down his newspaper and said, ‘Waeyo? It is still early.’

‘Okay, krom, you want to stay here and discuss your daughter’s life?’, Ji Hyunie Omma asked.

‘Omma!!! Chincha! I don’t have a life!’, she said loudly, she sounded exasperated she knew, but then she was. Stressed and exasperated so early in the morning.

‘Yet.’, came her appa’s shocking reply. ‘Arasso, I am off to work. Ji Hyunie Unnie, come on I will take you to school.’

‘Eh, kronde, appa, this is going to be interesting.’ she said teasingly just to annoy Ji Hyun, she was curious but she knew it was not her place to stay and say anything at all.

‘Tsk!’, their appa raised an eyebrow at her. Ji Hyun’s unnie nodded her agreement and stood up..

Both her appa and unnie left the breakfast table. Ji Hyun was sighing and breathing heavily as if she had run a marathon. Her emotions were on a roller coaster. Who knew that the freaking photobook would cause so much stress for her.

She was surprised when her Omma slid the photo book in front of her. ‘There you go, try and see the pictures. You look good together.’

She placed her hand on the book and was attempting to stand, when her omma placed a hand on her shoulder, ‘Sit and stay. I will be back.’, she nodded at her omma, ‘okay.’

She waited until her mom had left the room before she opened the book. There they were photos of them, memories forever immortalized on paper. She closed her eyes, then all the memories returned. The heart fluttering started when she saw that picture of the 5mins scene, the necktie scene, the 2nd dirty but pretty scene, and OMG! The first kiss scene that shook her world, tilted it upside down that she never really recovered from, looking at their lips connected brought warmth coming from the pit of her stomach. She could still remember the way his lips felt, how warm his hugs were, how safe he made her feel encased in his arms.

She sighed. All those hugs and kisses, ottoke!

They were good memories for her. She hopes that they were as good for him as it was for her. She smiled when she saw the proposal scene pics. She recalled how nervous he was, although he told her he didn’t know why he was feeling that way at all. The scene didn’t call for hand holding while saying the dialogues but their hands wouldn’t separate, they were caressing each other, providing comfort, and giving them peace somewhat.

She was brought out of her reverie when she heard someone clear their throat. Her mom was leaning at the door just look at her. She immediately closed the photobook as if embarrassed at being caught. Her omma smiled at her.

Her omma had something in her hands. She laid them one by one on the table face down. Ji Hyunie moved a hand to open them but her mom stopped her. Her omma took the book from her hand and opened it, then pointed to the first one indicating that Ji Hyunie opened it.

The first one was a picture of them, her omma and appa. Ji Hyun looked at her in surprise. Then omma showed her a page in the photo book. It was her and JCW lying down on the couch with her completely into his arms, with her arms around him and his around her, her legs nestled in between his.

Ji Hyunie turned the picture on its back again. She thought she saw a caption, and she was right. On the back it said, Back and safe in his arms again. She was floored and that was an understatement.

Her omma turned the picture book again then pointed to the next picture. She checked the caption at the back, it said First date. Ji Hyun turned it over, she was so surprised to see it. Her Omma once again brought the book closer to her showing her the park pic where they were sitting under a tree with Chang Wookie Oppa looking at her while she looked ahead.

She put out her hand to open the last picture but her Omma caught hold of her hand, she indicated that she should look at the photobook first before opening the picture. Ji Hyunie glanced at the caption at the back. It was just a date, but then looking again at it she realized that it was the date of their wedding. Her parents wedding anniversary.

She took the photobook out of her omma’s hands and placed it in front of her. The photo on the page was of the morning after bed scene where Oppa kissed her shoulder. She closed her eyes as she remembered feeling the warmth of his lips on her shoulder and gave a shiver. She released a breath and then turned the picture over. She had the shock of her life, it was also the same picture.

‘Ji Hyunie appa took the picture. In the same instance as that scene in the drama.’, she looked away but smiling as if remembering that day as well.

‘I wanted to throw that picture away, because I was embarrassed by being there.’ But Ji Hyunie appa said, ‘Aniya, yeobo, you were not there, you were completely covered, and surrounded with all of my love.’, she smiled so happily and beautifully that Ji Hyunie felt teary eyed. ‘Besides, he told me, that  I would want to show it to our children someday.’

‘Now you see, Ji Hyunie?’, her omma looked at her with so much love in her eyes. ‘Just wait, he’s worth it.’

Ji Hyunie nodded and hugged her mother at the waist. ‘Komowoyo, Omma, saranghe.

    ‘Ara, uri baby.’
