wORLD OF LITERATURE
READING CLUB

“You should never read just for “enjoyment.” Read to make yourself smarter! Less judgmental. More apt to understand your friends’ insane behavior, or better yet, your own. Pick “hard books.” Ones you have to concentrate on while reading. And for god’s sake, don’t let me ever hear you say, “I can’t read fiction. I only have time for the truth.” Fiction is the truth, fool! Ever hear of “literature”? That means fiction, too, stupid.” — John Waters

ABOUT THE CLUB

This is a reading club that aims to provide a strong support system to authors in terms of providing feedback on their stories through comments that will serve as an expression of how we feel towards their craft.

We aim to address the deep-rooted problem on silent readers who have somehow contributed to the demotivation of a number of authors by recreating a conducive environment for writing through active reader-writer engagement.

author's note

I've been reading a lot of discussions and blogs regarding the problem with silent readers and how it demotivates authors to the point that a number have already discontinued their stories due to this deadly silence even when they have a huge number of subscribers on it. Honestly, a negative feedback is better than being ignored. At least with a negative comment, you have something to work on to, rather than imagining things that aren't there. So I've decided to make a reading club. Basically, its a support system where members will submit one story at a time. All members must read the submitted stories of their co-club members which will comprise the reading list of the whole club, even just a first few chapters of it if the story is really long, and so it goes on. As a member joins, another story is added to the reading list which all members are required to read and comment upon. Comments are not just about praising a story, but rather expressing how you feel about it and if their's anything that can be improve, then point it out, just like what reviewers do. Are you up for it? Comment below and invite your friends who have the same problem.

challenge

Let's repent for our sins, the most deadly sin of being a silent reader, reading stories without leaving a comment or at least an upvote if we enjoyed the story!

Let's make it a habit from now on to always leave comments on how we feel about a story especially if we enjoyed it to begin with.

SO RECALL THE STORIES YOU'VE READ AND IGNORED, GO BACK AND TELL THE AUTHOR HOW YOU FELT READING THE STORY! WE HAVE TO REPENT IF WE DON'T WANT THIS SITE TO DIE OUT OF SILENCE AND INDIFFERENCE. CHANGE NOW! I CHALLENGE YOU!

IF YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE, REPOST THIS OR FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS THROUGH A CHAIN WALL POST OR A BLOG POST TO SPREAD AWARENESS JUST HOW BIG THE PROBLEM IS.

Feel free to edit or come-up with your own version.

In just like 20-30 minutes, after rechecking my subscription list, I revisited the stories that I wasn't able to comment into despite being able to finish it. 15 stories that made me cry, laugh, angry and all those emotions, I finally expressed my long due appreciation to the author who wrote them. You, have you revisited your reading list?

See! It's just one sit away! From now on, I promise to comment on stories that I will read in this site :)

Foreword

HOUSE RULES://

1) Be kind to everyone. When providing negative feedback, try to tone down and communicate your thoughts without bashing the author. Rude behaviors will not be tolerated.

2) The reading list will comprise of stories submitted by each member. 1 story for every member in a particular amount of time (to be decided through consensus).

3) All members are required to read all stories in the reading list within the time duration and provide active feedback to the writers.

4) In case of very long chaptered stories, they will stay in the reading list for a much longer time. However, for the next batch of stories, the owner of long stories will not be able to submit another story until all members have finished reading it. The same is true for on-going stories, until it is completed, it stays in the reading list.

5) Readers who are not comfortable with particular genres must disclose their comfort zones at the time of joining so that they will be exempted from reading certain stories in the reading list. Do not abuse the use of this preferrence and try to open yourself up to more variety of stories.

6) To be able to join, comment below a small introduction of yourself, the genres you write and your reading comfort zone.

Hello! I'm Lisa. I mostly write het pairings and idol x oc (though I do have plans on writing in the future). I love writing romcom and slice of life because they give me feels HAHAHAHA they allow me to experience stuff that I'll most likely never experience irl. I'm also a big fan of wizard!au the harry potter way. I can read almost everything except for mpreg and wolf!au because I could never wrap my head around the concepts. Also, I tend to be strongly opinionated so I'd rather stay away from stories that contain any mention of mental illness and bullying since I'm afraid that I'll unintenionally offend somebody.

Hi. I'm Michael! I started this initiative in the hopes of strengthening reader-writer interaction to encourage readers to always leave feedback to stories they read to further motivate authors to improve and continue crafting gems. I'm into writing, just recently, I've been taking it seriously. The first story that I've been focusing is a dark-fantasy mash-up starring EXO. My reading comfort zone is anything except yuri. I look forward to establishing a better relationship with different readers and writers on this site :)

Hello, my name's Anjelica~
I'm 18 years old and have recently just started writing. Since I've just started writing, my recent work mostly consist of romance with a bit of fantasy and a lot of fluff/comedy ᵔᴥᵔ
I'm quite comfortable with reading pretty much anything as long as the plot is interesting (灬♥ω♥灬)
