Foreword

"Omma! The heater broke again? What do I do?"

I couldn't believe the situation I was in. My mom and I were sitting in our old house (the one we had before dad died) with no heater and barely any food.

How did this happen? Well..... 

Ever since dad died, my mom was always depressed, which turned into an "I don't care" attitude. My mom would constantly get drunk and go gambling, although we barely had any money. My dad was the only worker in the household and my mom was a housewife.

I'm only 18, and I've been going to work at various stores and whatever. I've worked at Walmart, In-N-Out, Target.. you name it, I've probably worked there. I was named Eun Mi, which means grace and beauty. But I know I'm anything but. I trip over every possible thing (including flat surfaces) and I wasn't supermodel status...but I'm okay with that.

"OMMA! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

I became impatient waiting for my mother's reply. I finally got up from the hardwood living room floor and walked to the kitchen whee I last saw my mom. 

"What. The. Fuck." 

My mouth hung open at the sight.

My mom was sitting in a chair at the kitchen table with a cell phone pressed to her eat sitting across from a man with a dark blue suit, with two menacing lokking guys behind him.

"Ah, Eun Mi! This is Mr. Smith... I have something to tell you."

"And what is that?"

"I'm going to have to send you to Korea."

"WHAT?!" My eyes grew wider as my mind processed what my mom had said.

"No no no no no, this is a good thing! I'm not punishing you it's just....to get this job, I need to have the house to myself and....uh..."

"Why." I cut off my mom while glaring at her.

Suddenly something in me snapped. "Mr. Smith" is making her do this! I then averted my glare to the man in the business suit, and he gave me a warm smile, which sent shivers down my spine.

"Don't worry honey, your mom has it taken care of. You'll live somewhere nicer with your mom's friend!" The man continued to smile creepily and I shuddered again.

"Alright... okay... tomorrow? That's fine, that's fine. The dorm members are all nice, right Oppa?"

Oppa....? Who the hell was my mom talking to?!

"Yah. Omma. Who  is exactly is this dorm? And who was 'oppa'?" I questioned my mom now with more curiousity than anger before she said goodbye to other person on the line and took a deep breathe.

"That was my oppa from high school. He said he would be happy to help me to put you somewhere safe and secure when you're in Korea."

"And where is that?"

"Well.. my oppa, er- Mr. Shin... is the manager for a famous boy group in southern Korea. And he said that he talked to all the members, and it would be fine for you to go live with them! Isn't that wonderful?" My mother then stood up and took both of my hands in hers, before I began to glare at her again.

"Wait.... so, this group... is all girls right?" I wasn't very comfortable around guys, let alone to live with them.

"No, actually the opposite!" 

My mouth hung open again.

"Ommmaaaaaaa? Why did you do thaaaat?"

"They're all very nice boys and I think you'll like them!" She smiled widely at me before hugging me.

"And who is this group exactly?" My words were muffled in her shoulder as she hugged me tightly.

"It's a group called......SHINee."
