Gravity
REPLY 2012CHAPTER 45: Gravity
“Who’s the one you will ask to go out? Hanna?”
Ong’s question surprised Minhyun. In his head, he was asking how Ong could guess it. But in reality, he scoffed. “N-no..”
“Don’t act in front of me, Hwang Minhyun. Is it really not Hanna?” Ong asked again.
Minhyun somehow felt annoyed. “Yes, it’s not her. Why?”
“No.. It’s just.. I have mistaken you twice! First, I thought you like Jonghyun, but you’re not.”
Minhyun opened his eyes widely, couldn’t believe Ong really thought he likes Jonghyun.
“Second, if it’s not Jonghyun, then I thought you like Hanna. But turns out it’s not her too.” Ong scracthed his head, feeling confused. “Usually I’m good in sensing who’s in love with who.. but you’re kinda unexpected, Minhyun ah.”
Minhyun was nervous. He didn’t want Ong to know that actually what he guess was right.
But Ong was already poking Minhyun while asking, “So, who is she, huh?”
“Secret.” Minhyun answered shortly while trying to leave the fussy Ong.
“Ya, I have helped giving you tricks, you should have told me who she is. Ya, Hwang Galyang!” Ong was trying to hold Minhyun, but he was successfully leaving him.
It was Kim Jisoo.
After having counseling with Kwon Boa, Minhyun realized that he still haven't done anything for himself this entire times. All he thinking was about Hanna. He always stayed next to her. He always stuck with her. So this time, he wanted to give a proper chance for him to move on.
Then why Jisoo?
Although Jisoo never telling him directly, Minhyun knew that she have some kind of feeling towards him. He could see it from her sparkling eyes when talking to him. Minhyun somehow could see himself in Jisoo because he was being in the same position with her this entire times. He knew how one sided crush feel. So this time, he wanted to give Jisoo an equal chance like what he give to himself.
But it wasn't easy. Minhyun actually never interact much with girl, except Hanna. Even only start a mere conversation he found it difficult, so how hard it will be to suddenly ask a girl to go out. That was why he needed help from a professional like Ong Seungwoo. But that kid gave many super weird tricks, that making Minhyun roll his eyes and regret his decision for asking help to him. Fortunately in the end, he was kinda sane enough to finally give a simple suggestion like, "ask her for a study date."
Study date?
What the hell. Minhyun's heart dropped.
That's what Minhyun suggested to Hanna and Jonghyun few weeks ago.
Now he was the one who will do that.
But the question is, will it work smoothly or end up like what Hanna had?
The man of plan Hwang Minhyun felt the need to make a plan regarding this ‘date’. He searched what thing that will connect him with Jisoo. Fortunately, there was an English assignment that asked the students to create an essay according to types of theme that they got. Like the universe wanted to help him, he got the same type of theme with Jisoo. Didn't think twice, he decided to use it as his excuse to ask Jisoo to go out.
But turned out, universe also liked to play on him. Just like what happened at lunch when Hanna suddenly held his hand, trying to calm him not to argue with Jonghyun. He was electrified. Like, why Hanna suddenly have an intention to hold his hand? Minhyun knew he already made thousands of skinship with Hanna. But he didn't expect that this simple holding hands could somehow have a power to destroy his intention to move on.
Is this a chance for me? Is it finally my time? Minhyun thought. Maybe I shouldn't choose to forget her, but to change the situation.
But again, he needed to face that in fact Hanna never changed. She still likes Jonghyun, he assumed. She always go back to him. Because Jonghyun for her just like her gravity.
Minhyun could think like that because he saw Jonghyun and Hanna went out to the garden to have a talk. Seemed like Jonghyun apologized for his rude comment to Hanna at lunch. Minhyun knew that Hanna will forgive him, but he didn't know that Hanna also didn't mind to have skinship with Jonghyun.
Guess, she's not only do it with me. You're not special, Hwang Minhyun.
Moreover when Hanna showed Jonghyun the necklace.
Minhyun was surprised. He thought Hanna didn't wear it again after Jonghyun's rejection. But turned out she still and maybe always will wear it because it is Jonghyun's gift.
You must looked like a fool, now. Hwang Minhyun.
So since that day, Minhyun firmly decided that nothing could stop him from moving on.
He prepared himself much for the date. He even recited the words to ask Jisoo to go out the day before. And fortunately he was fluent and normal enough to ask her out. Jisoo as predicted say yes. And what Minhyun should do next was just going to a date itself.
It was his first experience to spend time together with a girl, except Hanna. It would be a lie if Minhyun didn't feel nervous. He even spent some times in front of the mirror to styling his hair. But all of the gels he used turned out making his hair curly and he just gave up. He chose a stripes ed light blue shirt on top of a white T-shirt and jeans to wear. Pretty simple and casual, he thought it won't be too much for a study date.
He took a long deep breath before walking out the house to the cafe. None of Dobong-dong kids knew this agenda. He wanted to keep it secret since he didn't want Dongho to again. He was enough.
He arrived earlier than Jisoo. The cafe was already packed with customers even when it still an hour more to lunch. Not waiting too long, Jisoo finally arrived. She looked pretty with a white blouse matched with a green skirt. But somehow it didn't give spark in Minhyun and he mad at himself for not able to praise her appearance just like what Ong taught him.
"Have you wait too long?" Jisoo asked softly as she sat across the table.
"No.. I'm just arrived." Minhyun answered calm.
"Let's order the drinks.." Minhyun called the waitress and made an order.
Minhyun's choice is always consistent, a grapefruit juice. Meanwhile Jisoo chose Ice chocolate and order sandwiches. Soon, they started to talk about the assignment and naturally filled the table with books.
Turn out it isn't as awkward as expected. Minhyun thought.
At the same time in the other place, Hanna was also busy reading book, How the Mind Works from Steven Pinker. She was into computational theory of mind when her mom barged into her room while screaming, "Hannaaaa.."
Hanna dropped her book in shock. "What happened mom? You're shocking me!"
"You dad is really something!" Her mom grumbled.
Hanna sat, fully focus on her mom. "Why? Why?"
"He just called and plainly told me that he forgot to tell me that Jessie would come here??!!"
The information from her mom surprised Hanna. "Oh? Auntie Jessie is coming?? From LA??"
Hanna's mom nodded and then sighed. "Ah, really! He must have known how his sister is, yet he still didn't give me time to prepare anything."
Hanna patted her mom shoulder while saying, "It's okay, mom. We don't need to prepare anything. Let her just come."
"No! You know how she is too. No. No way!" Her mom firmly opposed. Then she got up and hit Hanna's arm softly. "Get up, you need to go to supermarket."
"What? Now? Mooom, don't you see that I'm reading right now?" Hanna was trying to make an excuse.
But her mom has firmly made the decision. "No excuse. You should help me, Hanna. Let's do teamwork. While you're going to
