Chapter 38:
I Am My Father's DaughterFor the next month Yejin's weeks were packed with dealing with the stragglers from Suho's reign, cleaning up the mess he left 3.6.5. in and making time to drop by the Circle to visit Tao who was doing much better (and would soon return to work) and Minseok who was back to his usual self. He would greet Yejin with a kiss if they were alone in his office or a quick squeeze of the hand if he was busy, both made her heart rate climb with affection.
By the third week of August Daehyun had removed Yejin's sling and had taken out the stitches. The wounds hadn't healed quiet nicely as he had wanted, leaving behind scars that Yejin didn't really bat an eyelash at (mostly because it had been her fault that the wounds took so long to heal). Yet when the stitches were removed she didn't hesitate to go to the Circle's HQ and flaunt her recovery to her boyfriend, but when she found the man he was having a meeting with some client so she had to wait. Though not alone, D.O. was there messing with a file that he was glaring at disinterestedly.
“They gonna be much longer?” she asked stepping up next to the man.
He peered up, shocked to see her for a moment, before his clever smile appeared as he tucked the manilla file under his arm. Yejin was never not going to find that expression unsettling coming from D.O., he was just a strange man. “Probably not. It's a regular client, they're just renewing a contract,” he replied.
Yejin merely nodded.
“What brings you here today Jinjin?” he questioned curiously.
“Just a visit,” she said innocently.
“Uh-huh,” he drawled out skeptically.
Yejin rolled her eyes as she folded her arms over her chest. Leaning her weight on her left leg she glanced towards Minseok who was jotting something down on the paper in front of him on the oval table. He looked handsome with his serious expression as he worked, hair styled back and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. She gnawed on her lower lip as she continued to watch him work. She missed him even though it had only been three days since they had last seen one another.
Swallowing the lump that had suddenly appeared in Yejin tore her gaze away from Minseok and tried to focus on D.O., who was eyeing her with a know-it-all grin.
“So,” she began, filling the silence between them. “How's Sooyoung with the pregnancy?”
At that question D.O.'s expression softened with fondness and a twinkle of love in his eyes. Grinning he said, “She's doing good. Her cravings have reached an all time weird, she ate a plum and blue cheese salad last night and a peanut butter, pickle, mayo sandwich for lunch.” He scrunched up his nose in disgust, but there was a smile of adoration on his face. D.O. was completely smitten. “She's twenty-five weeks, almost in the last trimester,” he commented happily.
“You're going to see those bundles of joy soon,” she said with a teasing smile.
“I know and it's going to destroy me,” he beamed.
Yejin giggled. “Just remember TNT is not a play toy and you can't threaten to blow them up to get them to listen.”
D.O. scoffed but laughed too. “Sooyoung doesn't let me bring work home with me anyway.”
“Smart woman.”
“Scary wife,” he corrected.
They laughed together again, Yejin enjoying the image of D.O. succumbing to a slow moving pregnant woman with his head lowered as she scolded him. They chatted for a bit more about Yejin's progress with her new headquarters that was being set up about six blocks from the Circle's. She was explaining how her desk was made out of a light apple wood that was going to be carved with the new symbol of 3.6.5. that was no longer the trident. It was the numbers, long and skinny cramped together in steady .
“Yejin?” Minseok said interrupting her description to D.O..
Turning she smiled at him as her boyfriend stopped next to them. “Hey, I stopped by to visit,” she greeted.
“Well, I'll leave you two to whatever it is you do alone together. I'm off to work,” D.O. smirked and waved at them.
Minseok scoffed at his employee while Yejin rolled her eyes at the retreating back. When D.O. was out the door Minseok turned back to Yejin and suggested they go back to his office which she happily agreed to. They didn't say anything as they made their way down to his office, but once they were confined inside Yejin pounced.
“Jesus,” Minseok muttered taken off guard. His hands grabbed her thighs as she wounds her legs around his waist and adjusted her grip on his shoulders. “What are you doing?” he questioned with a tinge of annoyance in his voice.
Pressing herself tighter to his back Yejin nuzzled her face into the crook of his neck. “Celebrating,” she hummed, her lips pressed to the bare skin of his neck and shoulder (her nuzzling pushing the collar of his shirt aside).
Minseok turned to look at her as she lulled her head against his shoulder, a smile curving . “Celebrating what?” He arched a brow.
“Got my stitches out today. I'm basically brand new,” she beamed smugly.
His eyes scanned her face for a long moment before a mischievous smile tilted his mouth, a lustful gleam in his brown eyes. Yejin's heart stuttered in her chest at the look he gave her, and she would be lying if she said she hadn't anticipated.
“I'll be the judge of that,” he hummed, hands tightening on her thighs.
“Be my guest,” she winked at him.
A second later their lips were pressed together and all Yejin could think about was how much she had missed Minseok.
