The Light Through Paper Snowflakes

Description

-Baekhyun's Point of View-

“Do you remember that time, back in young school days? When we all had to make paper snowflakes in art?” Chanyeol says, almost whispering, like he is hesitant to remember.

“We do not speak of that time.” I say, mustering the most serious, deep voice known to men, well to me anyway.

Chan’s eyes widen; “What’s so bad about that time?” almost laughing, but slightly nervous for some reason.

“Let’s just say, glitter, paper, scissors, glue and an idiotic Baekhyun don't mix” I grin.

Chanyeol chuckles, his eyes crinkling, “That reminds me of cake mix!”

“It would be a slightly hazardous cake, though I reckon I would be tasty!”

. Where did that come from? I haven’t ever said stuff like that before. Was that too cringing?  Did I go too f-

“Mmm yes, yes you would!” squeals Chanyeol in a girly voice, his lips for added effect. “But anyway” Chanyeol continues, his voice back to normal; though a lot more serious surprisingly. “Don’t you ever miss that time? When the biggest squabble would be about a slightly limp football?”

“Yeah! And when your parents declared your glittery mess was art.” I grin, shaking my head.

“Exactly!” he exclaims, sighing "Just when everything was so simple!”

“Maybe we can go back to that.” I whisper, slightly hopeful, slightly thinking it's achievable.

“But how?”

Who do we actually know?

Going through school, seeing a swarm of faces through the corridor, sometimes we can attach the name, maybe even year group.

The basic details.

Park Chanyeol is more than the name and face of NCT Highschool.

His name is fiery in wild stories through aspiring younger years, glowing in teachers' reports, and dancing around the latest crush stories.

He seems to have the perfect life to most.

Seems to.

Byun Baekhyun dreams to have a life like that.

Chanyeol would give anything to just be someone else.

When two unlikely paths cross, both wonder what it really means to truly know someone.

Can things be as simple as clumsy glitter paper snowflakes?

Foreword

Paper Snowflakes

Paper.

Our canvas sewn through the silk of words, trying to make sense of all the very weird and sometimes wonderful oblongs our world is; fitting together and somehow functioning to keep evolving.

Paper.

What goes through our eight year old mind's majestic, though more jenga-like, architectures we cram into sentences after discovering that the thesaurus is not actually a dinosaur.

Paper.

CVs and personal statements, when we're forced to acknowledge our inner coolness, and to be satisfied with feeling like a confident cat rocking those shining shades.

Paper.

That file that should've been stamped with the dreaded "D" parents desperately cover and sugar coat months and maybe even years back. Where there wouldn't be a present with wars raging with fuel of tea stained coasters.

Paper.

A thin layer, which our valued felt tips frantically surge through; keep surging through despite the opaque, high quality sketch book layer you think you have.

Paper.

Encasing adventures, complicated contracts, lying about user friendliness manuals, and sometimes even scars. Crumples you thought you had ironed out with that verbal wanted poster your mum issued of that rolling pin.

Paper snowflakes.

Gleaming in the array of patterns; slightly torn and unexpected, a lot more classic than those classic cookie cutter shapes.

Meeting him, Byun Baekhyun
