Over a Bowl of Ramyun

“So, where are we going to eat?” you asked. You glanced up at Sunggyu who was still smiling like a loon beside you. The two of you had been walking side by side for a while now. 

“Hey oppa. Where are we going to eat?” you repeated. Finally, he seemed to hear what you said.

“O-oh. That? Well uh…” His smile disappeared when his hands went to his pockets. Crap! I forgot that I didn’t bring cash with me!

Indeed, all he had were a few bills tucked in his back pocket. When he went out of the dorm earlier that morning, he had only been planning on having a short stroll outside and wasn’t exactly expecting to bump into you. As a matter of fact, he was dressed like a bum.

When you noticed that he was fidgeting with his pocket, you immediately realized what the problem was. You wanted to tell him that it was okay and you’d just pay for the meals, but you knew that he’d never agree to it. You didn’t want to hurt his pride by suggesting that you’d treat him to a restaurant meal. At that moment, you spotted something that gave you an idea.

“Why don’t we eat at that ramyun shop from before?” you said brightly. You pointed to the little ramyun food tent that Sunggyu brought you to the first time you went to the Han River. “You treated me before, so I’ll pay for our meal now.”

“W-what? No, you don’t have to pay me back—“

“But you keep treating me all the time, I’d feel burdened if I don’t pay you back at least once,” you insisted. Before he could protest again, you dragged him towards the shop. You ordered two bowls of ramyun and smiled at him happily, but Sunggyu still seemed to be hesitant about eating the ramyun.

“Don’t worry, I’m not trying to trick you into eating some weird-tasting stuff,” you joked. “See?” You took a sip of the soup. “It’s safe.”

“Hey, I said that the first time we came here!” Sunggyu said with a laugh. “You still remember it?”

“Of course I do. It’s not like I have some memory problems or anything.”

At your words, Sunggyu’s expression seemed to turn solemn – even sympathetic. You found it weird, but you shrugged off the feeling, thinking that it was probably just your imagination. 

“Wah! Mashitta!” you said in between mouthfuls of ramyun. Sunggyu watched in amazement as you gulped down the meal.

“Uh, you have something…” Sunggyu said, pointing to our lips.

“Oh, sorry. I’m a messy eater, aren’t I?” You wiped at the spot he was pointing at. “Gone?”

“Wait, there’s…” By impulse, he leaned over the table to wipe it away. His bold move caught you off-guard, and you felt electricity flow through his thumb as it brushed lightly against the corner of your lips. His eyes were glued to your lips and for a few seconds, his hand just lingered there.

After what seemed like forever, he finally moved his hand. However, your heart almost jumped out of your chest when you realized that he wasn’t about to remove it. Instead, he slowly ran it against your lips – so delicately, almost not touching it, as if he was afraid that it would break under his touch. The light contact made chills run down your spine. Your mind went completely blank as his eyes travelled upwards from your lips until they met your own. He had a peculiar but unmistakable look on his face – It was the same one he had when he was singing ‘Because’ at the noraebang. At that moment, you knew that it was the other side of Sunggyu who was looking at you– the one that was far from his usual shy and timid self.

All your systems turned off when he started leaning in towards you. Everything seemed to move in slow motion: every centimeter that disappeared between the two of you as his lips came closer, closer made your head spin faster, faster. There was no escaping the gaze that he had locked you in, and it took all your strength away. Your knees felt wobbly, and your neck felt weak as well. Your head would’ve long since been lolling around lifelessly over your shoulders if it wasn’t for his hand that was holding it up. After an excruciating eternity, his face was finally centimeters—no, millimeters away from yours. Involuntarily, your eyes shut close as you waited for the moment. You could feel his light breath on your skin, and you knew, you knew that only a few molecules of air separated the two of you.

Finally

“CCCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Your eyes fluttered open at the sudden sound. You could see Sunggyu freeze as well, looking cross-eyed as he stared so closely at you.

“CCCAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!” the sound screeched again.

As if by cue, Sunggyu staggered backwards, looking shocked out of his wits. He had turned back to his normal self, and he seemed like he was only starting to realize what he almost did. Awkward silence hung in the air, and he kept avoiding your eyes.

To avoid the awkwardness, you hastily grabbed your chopsticks and started stuffing noodles into your mouth. You even took the whole bowl and seemed to gulp down its entire content. It wasn’t surprising when you started to choke on it. Unable to breath, your eyes bugged out as you frantically clutched at your throat. Sunggyu immediately grabbed a glass of water and handed it to you, but unfortunately, it only made things worse. It seemed like a piece from the ramyun was lodged in your throat and was blocking the air from entering your system.

ACCKKK! Is this my punishment for lying to Sunggyu oppa?! Am I going to die because of… ramyun??!!

 Sunggyu watched in horror as your face started to turn blue.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?! WHAT IF SHE CHOKES TO DEATH?!!!!!! There are only five days left before she leaves, she can’t die on me right now! NO! Is this my punishment for lying to her about my true identity? ANDWAE!!! Otteokae? OTTEOKAE???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At that moment, a video he watched years before suddenly flashed in his mind. Gathering up his guts, he finally came up behind you and put his arms around your waist.

Focus Kim Sunggyu! Focus! Okay, first… The arms are supposed to go around here…

He recalled the scene from the movie and put his arms under your navel.

What’s next?! What should I do now?! Oh, right…

Completely relying on what he had seen on the movies, he frantically gave you a squeeze.

“~~~~-ah! You can’t die on me! We still have so many things to do! I haven’t even showed you half of Seoul yet! Yah, ~~~~-ah!”

WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING?! This always works in the movies!

In his panic, he continued to squeeze tighter and tighter until you felt like your ribs were about to get crushed.

“Su-Sunggyu oppa, I’m okay now,” you finally gasped out as you tried to pry his arms off you. “I’m fine.”

“Really?” Sunggyu hurriedly came over to your side and checked up on you. “You coughed it out? So my first aid treatment worked?!”

Silly, you weren’t even doing it properly.

But he looked so relieved that you just couldn’t tell him the truth. His first aid skills sucked, and what was supposed to be a basic abdominal thrust practically ended up becoming a back hug instead. You didn’t really cough up the food: you actually gulped it down because of shock from his actions.

“Are you sure you’re alright? You can breathe? What’s your name? How many fingers are these?” Sunggyu demanded.

“Oppa, I’m really alright.” You laughed at his overreaction. “Seriously, I’m—“

Your laughter came to an abrupt stop when he suddenly grabbed your shoulder and pulled you towards him. He wrapped you in a hug and held you tightly.

“You scared me, ~~~~-ah,” he whispered, worry and relief both filling his voice. “You scared me…”

Okay, so this chapter is practically just full of fluff. But... keke~ Who could resist some Gyu action? >w< Next chapter will be up VERY soon. ^^
