[summary]

In a parallel universe where China is still run by the emperor, there are 3 princes living inside the Forbidden City. Han from the clan Lu is the crown prince of China, whose mother is the empress. Yixing from the clan Zhang is the third prince, who has hemophilia so he couldn't fight with swords and any blades, but he is clever in politics, artsy, has more knowledge in herbs and manages all of the ceremonies in the Forbidden City. Zitao from clan Huang is the fourth prince, who is the commander of the army because of his combat skill.

There is actually a second prince from clan Wu, named Yifan. His mother used to be the empress before Lady Lu. The king sent Lady Wu to Taiwan after she tried to poison Lu Han to death in order to make Yifan the crown prince. Lu Han survived, thus Lady Wu wasn't sentenced to death; she was sent to Taiwan instead and Yifan was sent to Guangzhou.

The emperor is now in a critical condition, and Lu Han is expected to succeed the throne. But as a loving father, the emperor wants Yifan to come back to the Forbidden City before his death. Thus, the friction between the princes is unavoidable, moreover Yifan is known for his desire to take the throne. And as the princes of the kingdom, Yixing and Zitao also have the chance to take it.

Which prince will rule China in the end?

Foreword

Remember they thought we were too young to really know what it takes to make it.

But we have survived off what we have done so we could show them all that they're mistaken.

But who could have known the lies that would grow until we could see right through them?

Remember they knew we were too young.

We still don't what it takes to make it.

Year 2005

Prince Yixing stood before Prince Yifan, with his maidens and eunuch behind him. The sky was dark, the weather was getting colder as the autumn reached its end, which means that the winter was coming. Yixing held his breath and his knuckles turned white; not because he felt cold, but because he held back his feelings. Anger, disappointment, sadness, and even tears, were on their edges but Yixing didn't let himself to let them out. He was too young to understand, but he wasn't that stupid. His brother, half-brother to be exact, was going to be sent to Guangzhou, a place where Wu Clan came from. Yixing understood that Yifan's mother, the former empress, was deported from the Forbidden City to somewhere in Taiwan as a punishment for trying to poison the crown prince, Lu Han. Fortunately, the crown prince survived. It was enough, wasn't it? Yixing just couldn't understand why the emperor had to deport Yifan as well. Although it was Guangzhou, Yixing couldn't help but feel like his brother was going to leave him forever.

The four princes; Lu Han, Yifan, Yixing, and Zitao were invincible. They treated each other like their own blood brothers despite the fact that they were only half-brothers. But all good things might just have to come to an end. Yixing did understand that for their mothers, the position of crown prince was crucial enough for them to kill others' sons. But he also understood that as a prince, this kind of life was the one he would face someday. And he had to admit that it would be unavoidable, no matter how close the princes were.

Yixing walked closer to Yifan. He hated the fact that he was the only prince to send Yifan off. Zitao was angry at Yifan--at Wu Clan, actually--so he objected the idea of sending the second prince off. He even mocked Yixing for being too considerate towards 'betrayer'. Yixing scolded him after that, but since Zitao didn't seem to change his mind, he asked the fourth prince to look after the crown prince instead.

"Prince Yixing," Yifan started; and Yixing felt a slight pang in his heart when Yifan called him that way. "How noble of you to send this betrayer off."

Yixing hated that tone. "Tao told me so, too," he said with a forced smile.

Yifan chuckled. He spread his gaze to the scenery before him; the Forbidden City, the maidens, eunuchs, and Princess Liyin, Yixing's elder sister. And lastly, his younger half-brother.

"Thank you," Yifan said. "I know I don't deserve your kindness, Prince Yixing, but I'm thankful to you."

"Gege, please," Yixing gave up. "I don't want any walls between us despite everything that has happened. You're still my brother and I never planned to stop being yours either. Lu Han has forgiven you and your mother, so there's no reason for us to have some bad blood. Really, that wouldn't be nice."

Yifan smiled weakly hearing Yixing's words. He his brother's hair. "I'm sorry for what I've done."

"You never did anything wrong!" Yixing almost shouted. The tears he had been holding back were betraying him. "Gege, promise me, promise us to come back someday. Let's be the invincible princes of China again. Please... please promise me."

Yixing was crying hard and on his knees. He regretted that the invincible princes of China he was so proud of suddenly came to such a hurtful separation. Yifan closed his eyes as he also felt the urge to cry as well. He wanted to soothe Yixing and erase his tears away, but the palanquin wouldn't wait too long. After bowing down to Princess Liyin, he walked towards the palanquin and let it bring him away from the Forbidden City.

Yixing ran to the crown prince's chamber to see Lu Han, not caring about his maidens and eunuch who ran after him. He barged into the chamber and threw himself to Lu Han. The crown prince didn't ask anything; he knew why Yixing cried like that. Zitao, who was at the chamber as well, looked away from his brothers. He couldn't stand seeing Yixing cry. He himself wanted to cry as well, but he tried hard not to.

"Are we still invincible, Han?" Yixing asked between his sobs.

Lu Han, as a brother who was closest to Yixing, knew that actually Yixing wanted him to say that. He knew Yixing didn't want a negative answer. He had a hard time forgiving the Wu Clan for the sin they had committed, so it hurt him too, for being incapable in seeing Yifan the same way again. He knew Yifan wasn't involved in the crime, but after all, Wu Clan did it all for Yifan to fill the position of the crown prince instead of him. When he regained consciousness after being in coma for two days, he realised that every prince had a chance to succeed the throne and the kingdom, including Yixing and Zitao. Although he was the crown prince, he knew that anyone could take this position at any time.

To ease his own painful thoughts, he opted to hug Yixing instead. He closed his eyes and decided, "Yes, Yixing, we're still invincible."

Zitao really didn't want to say anything.

a/n: Hello, I am Amma, formerly known as ammanicole. I've come back with new story and new username (and sadly I lost 500 karma points but oh well) and I hope this story catch your attention. Previously, I used to write fanxing fictions but I would never include any pairings in this story so I hope you won't expect anything related to hehe. I plan to update regularly on Sunday but who knows what might happen to me in the future... but I'll try. I need to learn how to live properly and well-ordered. This fiction could be a lesson to me. Hope to see you next week! Have a nice Sunday!
