Description

It started when you put a bitter taste in my coffee.

Foreword

This story has been sitting on my draft for a long while. I wrote this for my other OTP but when I look it up again, I thought this would suit Moonsun a lot better.
So here you go! Enjoy it to your heart's content~
Slight changes, the story ended up really long for a oneshot. Too long for my So I turned it into a multi-chapter.

It was an ordinary morning, a usual routine. I will always wake up at 5 in the morning, prepare myself for work and come to this cafe just to have a small cup of coffee or a snack in the morning before leading myself to the office where I work.

“I’ll have my usual.”

This has been going on for nearly a year, this whole routine in the morning. And when the sun goes down, after work, I will sometimes hit the bar for quick shots or saying ‘yes’ to my co-workers’ invitation to hang out or just go straight to my apartment—going straight back would be the last option since it’s always boring staying there alone.

I didn’t plan to bring anyone home, it doesn’t feel right ever since I was left by both my sister and my mother. Even though I moved out of our old house and is now staying at an apartment, it’s still doesn’t feel right to have someone else entering my place. It’s been nearly a year and I haven’t got the guts to get over my trauma.

Bitter.

I looked down at my drink. Something is really off.

It surely doesn’t taste like my usual order.

I frowned, and I was going to get a waiter but then I noticed there’s a small note under my coffee cup. It draws a small smile on my face while I raised my eyebrow in question. Someone must put this small note here on purpose. My mind quickly thought that it is either the waiter or the one who makes the coffee.

But as far as I know this place, there are only four people running this cafe. Two females and two males. The two girls are "Ahn Hyejin" or Hwasa and "Jung Wheein"—they both work here as waiters. The one man is the barista—which I have never took interest in knowing his name. And the other man is the manager of this place who is rarely even seen in the cafe. Even today I don’t think he’s present.

So if there’s anyone from this cafe, it must be the barista.

I picked up that small note as I rose my head, searching for the waiter who served this coffee and I found someone who’s looking at my way. It was a guy. It’ll be creepy if this really is that guy’s doing. Feeling a bit uncomfortable with his stare, I broke the quick eye-contact and opened the small note to see what’s in it.

There’s barely a sentence written on it.

It says, “Sorry. It’s a bad morning.”

I raised my eyebrow again. This time I’m surprised. This is new. What am I reading seriously? An apology from someone who just had a bad morning and this person just decided to give me bitter coffee? It ticked me off. This person would likely get fired by doing this. Before I could leave my seat, I realized there’s another note when I flipped the small paper.

This time, it says, “My dog just died.”

“Oh...” was the only thing came out without command. Suddenly, I felt like I can relate with this person. And just like that, I completely forgot my intention to demand my right as a customer, I no longer have the intention to complain my bitter coffee. I must say, it is my first time experiencing something like this. It made me wonder if this person also did the same thing with other customers, but that would be a problem. Not every person would take it like I do.

But still, that person risked their job by doing this. Whoever this person is, they must have had no idea who to talk to at this moment. It will definitely affect their work for the entire day.

I sighed. “Actually, letting it slip will clearly affect me the entire day as well.”

I pulled out a paper, rip it carefully and start writing something on it. At least, I can cheer up whoever this person is. I mean, I know exactly how it feels to lose someone or something so dear like that.

“I’m a good listener.” Was the only thing I wrote.

I don’t know what’s gotten into me, all I want to do is to cheer this person.

People said I'm weird, so maybe this is me being weird.

I had no second thought. I waved my hand to one of the waiters. A female waiter came, Wheein.

She greeted me with a smile, “Solar-ssi, is there anything I can help you with?”

“Not much, but um... I’d like to make sure of a few things.” I said, smiling while pulling out the seat nearby. “Please take a seat first.”

Wheein gave me an apologetic smile, “Ah, I’m sorry, but that would violate the rules.”

“Alright, I actually just want to make sure... I mean, last time I checked, there are only four people running this cafe.”

Wheein nodded. “As you can see, it’s still me and Hwasa as waiters. The barista and the manager.”

“Okay, then have you recruited any new worker? A new barista, maybe?”

Wheein gave me a frown before answering. “Yes, it’s a female this time. And in fact, she just started working here three days ago. Um... Is something the matter? The coffee doesn’t fit your taste?”

I quickly wave my hand and gave her a smile. “Not really. Not exactly my taste, but not bad. I did not dislike it.”

“I’m glad then.”

I lied. Yes, I lied. I couldn’t bring myself to tell Wheein that the coffee was a complete opposite than what I usually order here. If I told her that, I may make the manager scold that new barista and with what happened to her this morning, it’s as if I just ruined her life.

And my intention was to help her—

“So, is there anything else I can do for you, Solar-ssi?”

“Hn? Oh, yes.” I folded the small note before handing it to Wheein. “Could you please give this to that new barista?”

Wheein only shot me a puzzled look.

“It’s only a note for my usual order. You know I have my own preferences.” She nodded with a smile. No longer questioning the small note. It’s normal if she questions about it since I don’t usually do that—and of course, I don’t usually receive any note from a stranger and more over from a barista at a cafe like this either.

Oh well, I’m glad it’s a girl.
